No masks at Walmart?

Scanning I can only guess maybe keeps track maybe should you be returning something and have the receipt. My local Walmart only did the whole looking at receipts for a very very short time and it was pre-pandemic. That location however has certain products under lock and key (condoms, plan b, men's electric shavers (actually don't remember if women's electric ones are but the men's are pricey), and hair dryers) but if I go up a few miles north that Walmart location does not have those items under lock and key except for electric shavers. My local Walmart however didn't need to look in bags for return items but the location a few miles north did and they put a sticker on the item.

I tried to ask why they scan the reciept but never got a clear answer.

My local store locks up certain things too, including MENS socks (but not womens).

It's store policy at certain stores to check receipts as customers are leaving.

You can quote your "legal rights" but it seems like a really weird hill to die on. Takes 3 seconds to check a receipt and you're on your way.
It is policy that you agree to upon paying for a membership at certain stores. Walmart is open to the public and not a pay for membership store. Upon leaving the cash register, I do not have anything upon my person that Walmart owns or is of any business of Walmart's.

There is nothing Walmart can do. They don't have authority to do anything to a law abiding citizen. You are leaving the store thus they can not trespass you. The items you've purchased you are the owner of, not Walmart. They can not search you. Those membership stores as well, the only thing they have the authority to do is revoke your membership if you did not show your receipt.

As for your 3 seconds to show a receipt, it's going to take a lot longer than 3 seconds for me with bags of groceries in my hands as well as my keys so I can unlock my car door, I have to either place the food I plan on eating onto the filthy floor or I will have to try to fish the wallet from my back pocket while holding my groceries so I can get the receipt out.

You can think it's no big deal, you are entitled to your opinion. Others can also think it is a big deal and many do think their personal rights are a big deal especially in these current times. It may take you 3 seconds to show them a receipt but it takes no time just to continue walking on your way as a law abiding citizen.

Stores have a calculation called "shrink percentage" that will affect what type of loss prevention plans are in place. A store with a high shrink percentage will have more cameras, more staffing at exits, less self checkout, more undercover loss prevention staff, policies such as checking receipts, etc. Checking receipts is what you would call "security theater", the same as when you hear "security staff to area (XYZ)" when shopping in a store. It's pointless, and while it may stop a 10 year old from stealing a Snickers, it won't prevent the real theft that happens daily at every store you've ever been to that is now reflected in the price of the items you buy.
Oh for sure. I know why a particular location does this or that although sometimes the reasoning can be controversial. Ironically the location in my area that has all that stuff under lock and key is almost majority self-checkout. Seriously they have like 8 lanes regular (though only 2 or 3 open at one time) but most of the check out area is self-checkout especially after expanding the self-checkout on one side removing the majority of regular registers AND adding 7 or 8 self-check out registers on the other side of the store back in 2019. That said the self-check out large area is monitored by cameras and usually 2 employees and the other self-check out area 1 employee and the machines are taking video/pictures of you the whole time you're using the machine so that probably replaces some of the other methods.

There for sure is a lot of theft in stores. I used to work retail and every place I worked at you got the lesson on where to check most frequently for issues. One of the places I worked at they were like check behind the mirror for tags (in the dressing room) AND believe it or not it was maintenance job to check to ceiling tiles as people would step on the bench inside the fitting room and stuff the tags up there. People are inventive that's for sure. Big places like Walmart know they will never be able to keep up with the theft I'm sure.

Some people just seem to want to make some kind of point. The employees don’t care, they are just doing what their employer tells them to do.

I have been to Walmart and Target recently and could remove my mask per their guidelines. I still see very few shoppers without masks so I keep mine on too. Things will change gradually.

Apparently our local Walmart didn't get the memo. We just returned and EVERYONE, from the time we pulled into the parking lot, had a mask on. Outside, inside, employees, shoppers. I was shopping for new eyeglass frames, and the first thing the employee did was hand me a container and tell me to put every pair I handled into the box so that they could sanitize them before returning them to the display. I asked him if it was OK to remove my mask when I looked in the mirror with potential frames on. He said I could LOWER my mask just at that time. And we live in a state where the governor lifted the mask mandate several weeks ago. So I COULD have made an issue of it, but it just wasn't worth it to me. Anyone else live where they're not following the CDC guidelines concerning masks? I was even ready with my vaccination card.
I totally agree with you, and wish that you WOULD have made a big deal about it. Walmart (the business) has announced a policy saying customers do not have to wear masks. Those of us who want to be done with the masks have to say something when others try to prevent us from returning to normal life. At a minimum, I suggest sending an email to Walmart’s corporate office and calling/emailing the offending store. Please don’t let others bully you into keeping silent.

Walmart has said they are abiding by local ordinances. So if the town requires masks, Walmart will too.

The original poster had noted that they were in a state where the mask mandates had been lifted weeks ago (I believe, Texas), and of course, the comments attacking the original poster completely ignored the only info on what state and local rules existed. In fact, a few days ago, Governor Abbott issued an order prohibiting any local jurisdictions from requiring masks.

I've never seen any store happier to give a customer their money back. Lil Ricky has been an anti mask crusader for quite awhile. The thing is, he thought it was going to work out well for him. Instead he got roasted on Twitter after he posted it.

My fave. "Ricky turned out to be the entitled. .in the real world we all knew his entitled childhood character was going to grow up to be on the show."

Well ask and you shall receive. I believe you might find this one, "electrifying"
Considering the life choices he’s made, this seems par for the course.

How does it make it difficult for the employee at the door?

They have never done anything other than respond with have a nice day to which I respond you as well.

While it appears to be a small right to give up, it is in effect waiving your fourth amendment right. Are you willing to give up your right to remain silent or the right to speak with your attorney to make it easier for the poor police officer to do their job?

Courts have ruled that asking for the receipt is the same as asking for permission to search your bags or seize your person.

Do you similarly feel you are waiving your rights when required to wear a shirt and shoes?

I don't believe there is anything in the Constitution that protects the right for you to be naked. There is an Amendment in the Constitution that protects me "to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures..." which is what that would be. They can not force me to comply to my papers and effects (my receipt and my groceries) being searched. They can do absolutely nothing other than tell me to leave their property same as if I walked in without a shirt or shoes. Difference is, I'm already leaving at the point I am carrying my legally acquired stuff.

Walmart does have the right to call authorities whom then upon reasonable suspicion can detain me and search my effects for investigation. "He didn't show his receipt" is not probable cause I would think.

Last I checked, Walmart wasn’t owned by the government.

I make aesthetic choices all the time on glasses frames...with barely being able to see..because I have crap vision. Been doing this since I was in 1st grade so I guess I'm just used to it. Granted I can wear my contacts and often do (I do to the exam because my eye doctor needs to make sure my contact still sits on my eyes correctly though I have to remove them to do the full exam and put them back in at the end for the eye fit check) but still, I'm not always doing so when perusing the glasses.
Good point on the can't see when trying on glasses. It's been a long time since I've purchased glasses. Mine are I think 20 years old and I've only gotten cheap no coating basic lens replacement in the same frames since I've gotten contacts. I forgot about trying to look at the new glasses frames with not being able to see, LOL.

Speaking of glasses, had to tell my relief at work as I handed him all the paperwork, "I hope you can read this because I forgot my readers and I can't and I couldn't while I was writing it" LOL
Not to totally derail, but just wanted to share- I’m at or near -8.0, so what I do is I take my phone and take photos/video of my face while trying on frames. Sure, the process may be a bit longer as I scroll back through photos and videos, but at least I’m not hovering an inch from a mirror trying to making out what I look like! Ha.

Good tip!
