No masks at Walmart?

PSA: Just so you know, making an issue of things often works out rather badly.

Usually they ask you to leave and if you don't, they call the cops and ask the friendly cop to trespass you, then if you don't cooperate, well you get arrested for trespassing and whatever other charges apply.
This, all the videos of people "arrested for not wearing a mask" are not truthful. No one has been arrested for not wearing a mask, they are arrested when told they need to wear a mask, refuse, then are told to leave and they don't.

Twice it happened to me, except I said "no problem," turned around, and left.

I don't let them see my receipt when leaving the store, I would not bother to show them proof of vaccination to enter.

If they want to see my receipt they can call the police. The police, loss prevention, and I can then review the evidence they have to suggest I have shoplifted.

I just politely say no thank you and continue on my way.
Why wouldn't you just avoid shopping at stores that have rules you refuse to follow? Instead of being difficult for employees that are just doing their job?

There’s a choice to shop there and also no grounds for complaint.

If getting the glasses was worth keeping your mask on 15 minutes then it was a good day. Things are changing. Give it a bit longer.
The glasses thing is a bit different. It's a little difficult to make an aesthetic choice in making a very expensive purchase with your face covered.

Sure it’s more of a pain. So was not being able to use dressing rooms. People dealt with it. Until the store changes policy that’s how it is. At this point it’s likely to change soon.

Apparently our local Walmart didn't get the memo. We just returned and EVERYONE, from the time we pulled into the parking lot, had a mask on. Outside, inside, employees, shoppers. I was shopping for new eyeglass frames, and the first thing the employee did was hand me a container and tell me to put every pair I handled into the box so that they could sanitize them before returning them to the display. I asked him if it was OK to remove my mask when I looked in the mirror with potential frames on. He said I could LOWER my mask just at that time. And we live in a state where the governor lifted the mask mandate several weeks ago. So I COULD have made an issue of it, but it just wasn't worth it to me. Anyone else live where they're not following the CDC guidelines concerning masks? I was even ready with my vaccination card.

I guess you didn't read all of this:

If you’ve been fully vaccinated:
  • You can resume activities that you did prior to the pandemic.
  • You can resume activities without wearing a mask or staying 6 feet apart, except where required by federal, state, local, tribal, or territorial laws, rules, and regulations, including local business and workplace guidance.
  • If you travel in the United States, you do not need to get tested before or after travel or self-quarantine after travel.
  • You need to pay close attention to the situation at your international destinationbefore traveling outside the United States.
    • You do NOT need to get tested before leaving the United States unless your destination requires it.
    • You still need to show a negative test result or documentation of recovery from COVID-19 before boarding an international flight to the United States.
    • You should still get tested 3-5 days after international travel.
    • You do NOT need to self-quarantine after arriving in the United States.
  • If you’ve been around someone who has COVID-19, you do not need to stay away from others or get tested unless you have symptoms.
    • However, if you live or work in a correctional or detention facility or a homeless shelter and are around someone who has COVID-19, you should still get tested, even if you don’t have symptoms.

If Walmart does not think I am a shoplifter, they have no legal grounds to ask to see my receipt.

I am not going to give up my legal rights just to make someones job easier.

I don't get why you would even make an issue of this.

I get that some people are over being cautious, but I look at this request as small stuff.

You were seeking eyeglasses. Something needing close, personal contact with strangers.

I would be grateful that they wanted to sanitize eyeglass frames before the next person used them.

And why would you argue with an employee who doesn't make the rules ?

I wouldn't. But it was announced on the news that Walmart's policy was no masks. So I was only saying that some people might have argued with him.

What rules are you referring to that I refuse to follow? Now I'm really sorry I even posted the original comments. I was just pointing out that although a particular store announced "no masks" ON THE NEWS. that some local stores are doing different rules and wondering if anyone else has a similar experience. Instead I feel like I'm being attacked. I hope the moderators will come along and close this thread.

I make aesthetic choices all the time on glasses frames...with barely being able to see..because I have crap vision. Been doing this since I was in 1st grade so I guess I'm just used to it. Granted I can wear my contacts and often do (I do to the exam because my eye doctor needs to make sure my contact still sits on my eyes correctly though I have to remove them to do the full exam and put them back in at the end for the eye fit check) but still, I'm not always doing so when perusing the glasses.

I hope if you had made an issue of it, you'd do a more elegant job of it than Ricky Schroder, who posted it on his social media page, (and later apologized.)

I love the expression of the manager who handed him his Costco membership refund back. :lmao:

Goodness, Schroder is 51 and he looks like a grizzled old grandfather in this video. Maybe if he didn't make such an issue of the small stuff, he'd look a lot better for his age. :sad2:

No one is attacking you, we are simply stating differing opinions. If you think this is being attacked, I don't know what to tell you.

Our local Lowe’s store was requiring them today which I was surprised at since NY has lifted the mask mandate for vaccinated people. Even Lowe’s itself said they would align with the CDC as of today. Nope, everyone had them on today

Lowe's said starting Wednesday it "will align with the CDC’s new guidance unless required differently by state or local ordinances." Home Depot updated its policy Monday.

It's store policy at certain stores to check receipts as customers are leaving.

You can quote your "legal rights" but it seems like a really weird hill to die on. Takes 3 seconds to check a receipt and you're on your way.

I was replying to kdonnel's post, not yours.

Nobody is attacking you. They’re trying to explain why your line off thinking is incorrect or at the very least misguided. And I think most people would have even skated by that if not for the implication of you being the bigger person and not making a scene about it. Your confusion is understandable (although please realize the pharmacy and optical areas are classified under medical), your belief you have the moral high ground is not.

I think it's because you never made it clear if the eye area had signage about masks. A lot of eye care centers are having masks required for a reason. They are more like medical places. Also you said you could have made an issue of it and people are just tired of that sort of mentality so that will bring out people's annoyance at seeing someone say something like that. I also would caution that before you consider another store and potentially saying something that even if someone is on the news saying something you look at your surroundings for what they may have like a sign and a company's own press release. There was just enough in your original comment I think for people to look at and not think kindly of it.

Store policy is not law.

Instead I just politely say no thank you and continue on my way.

While the Shopkeeper’s Privilege gives the store the right to detain suspected shoplifters, it can’t be used with impunity. If the store employee doesn’t have any reason to believe you were shoplifting, it is illegal to restrain you.

Costco requires receipt checking as part of their membership. I agree to it as part of the membership so I happily show the receipt.

Walmart has no such membership requirements.

Walmart is misapplying Shopkeeper's privilege asking to see everyone's receipt.

But what about your rights? I thought that was the reason. That you won't be giving up your legal rights to make someone's job easier.

I don't really want to get into a rights debate so I'll decline commenting further on your viewpoint but mental gymnastics are going on here..

There is no mental gymnastics.

As a condition of becoming a member at Costco I agree to show my receipt at exit.

There is no such condition for shopping at Walmart.

A friend of mine likes to make a big fuss about that too. Walmart only checks receipts for items too large to bag or that are not in a bag for whatever reason. It's really not thet big of a deal and I'd rather not make things difficult for the poor employee at the door.
