No Lids

This sounds like a first world problem. Disney has every right to drop things that costs them money. They never said they existed for your convenience. You pay for the drink, they chose to supply the straw. Use to be you didn't have to pay for checked bags and seat selection when flying either and now you do. People didn't stop flying and people won't stop going to Disney.

Think again. They cost isn't just the cost of the cup and soda. They cost for the total package. They are just eliminating things from the package and keeping the cost. Don't think for one minute that the straw and lids was free.

The cost is for the soda, it is the price Disney chooses to charge you. They don't have to justify any of it. You choose to pay it if you want the drink. They provide you options and allow you to bring in your own.

Think what you want but the cost of the lid and straw are accounted for in the cost of the item. It is at every single place you go. Nothing is free.

So what if it was it doesn't change that now it isn't. Disney doesn't have to justify not dropping g the price of drinks because people feel entitled to a straw and lid.

A box of 2000 drinking straws can be obtained for $44. That’s 2 cents a straw. I’d imagine lids are similarly priced. I’m also sure that on the scale Disney makes purchases it’s even less than that. This is hardly going to result in some financial windfall for them.

ETA that in many arrangements the vendor (in Disney’s case, Coca-Cola) absorbs some of these costs for being the exclusive vendor or having their advertising somewhere. Sometimes it’s the packaging costs, or the beverage cost itself. Disney may or may not even be paying for these lids and straws in the first place.

I am not saying anything about there savings as in a world of millions cents doesn't matter but I am saying that I was paying $4 for a soda with a lid and a straw and now I will pay $4 for a soda with no lid and no straw. So while Disney won't care about the little bit of savings and personally I will buy a bottled soda over a fountain drink going forward but again I lost out of it and Disney gained something be it small its still me losing again.

You lost half a cent. Again first world problem

Disney doesn't have to justify anything to us as we can just choose not to go there anymore. Just as when they charged for parking or raise there prices for DDP or anything but we are just discussion how lids will impact peoples visits and the way they buy things at the park.

Thanks for making my problems seem less important than any other problems. This is a discussion board and I feel I am entitled to my opinion and with providing my view point with out being told that other problems are more important. Someone believed it was a valid thread to post and I am sharing my view point. Too many people discourage peoples view points and tell them that the world has bigger problems. I come on here to get away from those problems and not be told that my view point doesn't matter.

Okay so don't do anything? You have no other options that I can think of. That's the solution.

I'm not saying it is a good option... But it's the answer to the no lid problem.
Put back the lids and straws. That is a solution. Taking them away was a solution in the need of a problem.

All of my problems are first word problems. I live in the US. A first world country.

That doesn't make the problems go away.

The germ thing I get, the spilling thing I get, the disability issues I get. The half cent the straw costs doesn't seem like an issue. That is my opinion.

I appreciate your opinion and value that we can agree to disagree on my prospective.

The thing is that for the everyday non disabled person this isn't an actual problem. It's an inconvenience. You have options to reduce that inconvenience.

I'm wondering what kind of an impact it had on the Animal Kingdom. Seems people still visit and shop there. If there is an impact I'm betting it is a small one. I agree it is a bit of a pain to carry a full glass of pop around without a lid, but that glass isn't full for long. If I want a pop to sip on and carry around for a while I will buy a bottle.

People are use to it at AK because it is like that across the country at almost every zoo in America and they justify it by saying it is unsafe to animals. People care about Animals and they understand it. I work PT at a major NFL stadium and we don't give lids or straws at all in the stadium and people get upset and yell at us and then leave with there beverage and get over it. The reason the stadium doesn't give lids or straws for cold beverage is risk of a law suit from slipping and falling (reason given to us). So will people get over it and deal with it, Yes. I will always buy a bottled beverage over a fountain beverage all the time anyway.

Just to break up the monotony of the argument of Disney profits - which happens ALL the time in every division - when we get less with same and rising prices ........... hotel parking, hotel toiletries, hotel rooms ........... dessert party changes (higher price, lesser desserts), restaurant menus .......... so on.

Where do you live and where do you shop? I can get 2000 straws for $11 at my neighborhood store and that isn't even bulk sales. :thumbsup2 You need to find a new store. ::yes::

I understand those who are inconvenienced by the lack of straws/ lids. Again, I have a toddler and any liquid with no straw/ lid is asking for disaster (and even with a lid and/ or straw it’s not always a win). Most places I take him do not supply a cup with a lid and/or straw, or a booster seat/ high chair and it’s up to me to decid whether to skip it or bring my own. I’m not saying it’s not a valid viewpoint. What I am saying is that it’s not on Disney or any other company to supply everything I may need. I am also saying that this isn’t some big savings for Disney.

Do we know if they will be providing lids and straws to people with a disability or is it just one of them?

I am glad you have a personal way to relate and helps with view points. Thank you for that.

Sidenote: I didn't know that places don't have high chairs for toddlers.

I live in CT and shop largely on Amazon. Did you need a link? These are basic foodservice straws in wrappers. I also don’t shop for straws. At 2 cents a straw, I can’t be bothered.
