No Lids

So are we allowed to request a straw and lid? If so, do we need some kind of "proof" of need?
I get that folks that need baby items like diapers and formula have to bring those items. I also get that someone who needs a scooter will have to procure one.
I don't think most folks intuitively know they will not be given a lid and straw when they order a drink at WDW.
Just to add, it's not clear to me exactly when this will become policy at WDW.

I did not get a lid or straw at DHS yesterday at counter service, and at Prime Time Cafe they were only giving straws on request.

Double, triple like.

I wouldn't care if they upped the price some, as well.

No lids, no straws, no paper cups to throw away.

Well, other than the ones for people that don't want to pay for the reusable cup. But who wouldn't, right. Because it is good for the earth. Reusable bags, straws and now Disney cups.

How do you carry a wet sticky cup around with you? At the resort they at least have a sink to rinse them to get rid of the sticky aspect, but after watching everyone hydrating their sweaty cool towels in the park water fountains last week, I certainly wouldn’t want to use those to rinse a cup.

I don’t want to go into the parks loaded down like a pack mule. I have no problem with paper products that biodegrade, but I am not carrying in cups and straws and bags. They can ship my purchases back to the resort (and how they package it is up to them), and provide paper products at QS restaurants.

For everyone that is preaching that it's totally within Disney's right to not supply certain things, well of course it is, but by that logic heck we shouldn't even expect them to supply the cup, or a plate, or forks. I guess you'd be perfectly accepting of Disney slapping your food down right on the tray/table or discontinuing the supply of forks. You paid for the food, so you got what you paid for:sad2:

Give me a break a lid/straw is expected when you order a drink at a quick service location no matter where you are; Disney or Mcdonalds...it's the same process.

Expected, perhaps. Required, nope. “No matter where you are” doesn’t apply either. Many companies are ditching straws and/ or lids. Disney isn’t the first or only company doing this. McDonalds has actually already done so outside of the US- it’s a matter of time before they do so inside the US. Disney’s neighbor Sea World, and the Hyatt chain of hotels- also not offering straws and/ or lids.

I expect a place with a kids menu to have a high chair/ booster seat. They aren’t required to. If they don’t supply one, is it on me to find a workaround (sit on a lap, bring my own seating for him) or do I just have my toddler sit on the floor? Disney supplies a place to change his diaper- should I then expect that they supply the diaper and wipe as well?

If Disney decided to stop supplying utensils/ paper goods or other means of holding my food my choices would be to supply or purchase my own, not order items, or not go to Disney at all. Bottom line is that there are plenty of workarounds for not having a lid/ straw (and yes, that may mean not ordering a beverage or not being able to walk around with a beverage).

Lids and straws are very helpful to some folks with disabilities.
Not sure how this could be seen as a laughable complaint.

Yes it is laughable when there are actually people in this world that would love a cold beverage without a lid in any kind of container.

I totally agree.

I think they should bring back the lids and straws. As I have said, ditching them was a solution in search of a problem.

But at least according to many folks here, people should be willing to carry a reusable bag, by just shoving it in their pocket. So, why not expect people to also carry around a reusable mug? And forks? And a plate? I mean it is for the good of the earth.

Basically it is another solution in search of a problem.

Those same people would love a trip to Disney too.

And a computer, and a house, and a roof and regular food.

As someone else has said, first world problems. But we live in the first world. So all of our problems are first world problems.

The stuff people complain about lol

That's what this whole board is all about. Complain I couldn't get the reservation I wanted, couldn't get the Fast Pass I wanted, that they charge to much for things and etc but we come on here because everyone on here has one common interest and that is Disney. We have a place to come were everyone understands our complaints and can relate. We don't always agree and we have arguments just like most places but at least we have somewhere to go with people who understand our complaints and we can voice it. I think your on the wrong discussion board if your going to think that peoples complaints are laughable.

I did notice that at Woody’s Lunch Box they are using a more earth friendly paper tray as a plate for the food, which is a good substitute for normal, coated paper plates. So long as a good alternative is provided, I think it’s fine. I was glad I had one hand to hold the drink and the other to hold the carrying tray though. The drink cups are very unstable to begin with, and without lids, well, let’s just say there was a lot of evidence of spilled drinks near the pick up window.

People don’t think about the fact that not everyone wears clothing with pockets either. A friend of mine just carries her phone in her hand, and it’s in a case that holds her ID and a cc or a few dollars, and she wears sundresses that often don’t have pockets. Not everyone is wearing cargo pants or multi pocket jeans to the parks. I guess she could use her reusable bag to carry her reusable mug and reusable straw and reusable place setting . . .and voila, one pack mule!

To the bolded - exactly right. And Starbucks will close at Disney. ;) Can you imagine all of us in there drinking coffee along with all the people ordering? Especially the one at Epcot. :rotfl:

I'm sure we will all adapt. I can still think getting rid of lids is a bad idea.

This has occurred to me more than once. Then again, I waited for 20 minutes behind someone trying to figure out how to use the Freestyle machine and I can only imagine how those complaints would go doing so at a park.

Universal does just that, down to the Freestyle machines, and it isn't too bad to deal with.

I read a post on Facebook that I thought was pretty funny comment on someones reaction to the lids. They stated they were happy that they were helping the environment with the straws and lids being taken away and the person commented to them that if everyone would stop driving to Disney they would help the planet a lot more.

I understand every little thing we can do to help is better than nothing but instead of eliminating something offer a different solution to the problem. I think they would get no complaints if we could just refill the resort cups that most of us are getting anyway. I would even buy a little crazy straw to go with it.

I think I’m entitled to my opinion. If I think it’s laughable that there are numerous pages of people complaining that Disney does not provide lids or straws I have every right to respond.

Should have seen the thread about complaining about parking fees being added on. Luckily for all of us we can choose which threads we want to be apart of and which ones we want to skip.

You are correct. You can also choose who you respond to if you disagree...
