No Lids

I live in CT and shop largely on Amazon. Did you need a link? These are basic foodservice straws in wrappers. I also don’t shop for straws. At 2 cents a straw, I can’t be bothered.

Guessing the extra cost is because they are individual wrapped.

I don't think there has been enough first hand experience to say either way at this point.

I feel bad for the CM's who have to use there best judgement on weather its a valid reason to give it or if they just are told not to be confrontational with it and just give if asked. I can see someone with sensitive gums saying they are disabled and must have a straw.

Anyone been to Starbucks yet? How are they handling it?

That is literally my only concern with this issue. I don't sit in Starbucks and drink my refresher, I walk around with it...because it's hot...and it's refreshing to drink. I would like a lid for that. Hopefully they use their new sippy lids. :)

Same. I’d hate to be hoarding the Lexus equivalent of a drinking straw all to myself when it seems so many will be suffering without them. :drinking:

Don't think anyone has said they would suffer without them but just stating there displeasure over not being able to get one. I do believe we have the right to just state our displeasure.

Anyone can be displeased as they like. As I said before, I’m displeased at taking my toddler to a restaurant with a kids menu but no kids seating, or having to haul his diapers and supplies everywhere I go or pay top dollar to buy them on the spot otherwise but I accept that as the cost of being wherever it is I choose to go.

Thanks.

And there is no reason to question a guest that says that the need one. We don't question guests that use scooters.

I don’t disagree, but guests who use scooters do pay to rent or purchase them in most cases (or in some cases I suppose insurance may be involved but I’m not looking to complicate this any further). It doesn’t cost Disney any money and Disney has nothing to do with the decision to provide them or not.

I’m not at all saying Disney should be in the business of questioning someone over whether or not they require a straw or anything else.

If you can’t question a guest for a das then a straw is a big fat no, imho

It is not a food servers right to know why I need a lid and straw. If it’s for a medical condition myob.

Someone may ‘look’ fine, but isn’t. No one should have to justify a request w medical information. Nope nope nope

But in fairness to that Disney hadn't been questioning people with disabilities and there was people abusing the system and it caused them to change that system to try to stop people from doing so and now they are in a major lawsuit for the new policy. Disney can't win at all in it.

Just like I see both the annoyance and benefits of no straws or lids, I see how the system in place for those with disabilities wasn’t working as intended and needed to be changed, and how the changes that were made create a new set of issues for some guests. I don’t think there are any easy answers that work for everyone involved on either issue.

I’m simply saying that it’s not comparing apples to apples. Disney doesn’t get a say in who rents or uses a scooter and Disney doesn’t pay for them to do so, and is not supplying said scooter. I’m in agreement that it’s not up to Disney to question whether or not anyone needs a scooter or straw or lid but they do have the right to decide which items to supply and which to not supply.

I agree but could you imagine if you went to McDonalds for a family of four and got everyone a drink and they didn't supply a lid for those drinks and you had to drive home with your families stuff? People would be very unpleasant about it and be complaining. I understand they don't have to supply it but sometimes it just makes sense to supply it. Like if your giving little kids a cup in a kids meal.

I do understand that. I was at the park all week wrangling lidless cups of water away from my toddler and listening to him have a screaming fit that the cup (with a lid and straw!) that I brought from home (that he drinks from daily!) wasn’t good enough.

I have a very high level of understanding for what an inconvenience this is, but I don’t have a lot of sympathy considering there are plenty of things I need to make my day at the park run smoothly (luxuries like diapers, wipes, sunscreen) and no one supplies them for me so I’ve had to figure out how to best lug them around (and in the case of the toddler sized utensils, cups, and placemat I’ve had to figure out how to wash them after use).

But, as I’ve said numerous times today, I also have to understand when a restroom or business doesn’t have anywhere to change a diaper (much less supply one for me), or have a high chair, or when I was nursing and there was nowhere to plug in a pump or refrigerate milk. These are all inconveniences, some more urgent than others. I simply don’t expect Disney or any other business to manage all of them for me.

ETA: I fully understand that choosing to have a child and take him to Disney are choices. So is ordering a soft drink.

My son is almost 3, so thankfully I’m not dealing with a lot of this stuff any more (other than the sunscreen obviously), but when he was 18 months, I brought disposable placemats to Disney for him so I could throw them away afterward and not worry about washing. And I just let him use the provided silverware and helped him when he needed it. He mostly ate with his hands anyway. Actually, he still does. He can’t shovel the food in fast enough with that pesky fork.

My 2 yo does great with a regular sized fork (same benefit- can't shovel it in so fast). The spoons are too big for him and he ends up with ice cream and such all over himself. His placemat serves as his bowl/ plate so that he isn't whipping actual glass dishes on the floor.

WE decide to go to Disney when we do with the group makeups that we have. It is up to US to make sure we have everything we need to make our trips successful. That means for our babies, toddlers, teens and special family members ... WE are responsible. If you need it, bring it.

YES, I have a disabled family member and NO I will not ask for special treatment in this situation. If he is being handed a lid and straw, he will be sitting at a table with others looking/staring at him/us as to why he got one and they didn't. Nope, I will bring whatever we need for successful trips. There are lots of options and I'm not going to get upset about something completely in my control.
