This is from one of my posts from April 2002
Now of course we cant go back to the room without a stop at the ESPN. I ordered a club wrap to go and we headed to the room. We got on the elevator to the fourth floor, my sister got out, banging the door with her ECV, but I had dropped my fanny pack and of course the zipper wasnt closed and the contents spilled out meanwhile the door closed and it would NOT open again! The most it would do was open an inch, close altogether, open an inch, and close again. OH chit, I said Teresa, get me outta here! She tried prying the doors open with her hands, as did I, but to no avail. Now Im feeling claustrophobic, but trying to stay calm (never happened to me before, but I was always afraid it would someday). I tried all the buttons and none would work. I pushed the alarm button for a second, but it was late and I was afraid we were waking everyone up. Then I spotted the elevator telephone door, opened it and picked up the phone. A man answered 911, what is your emergency Yikes, I would have thought the phone would ring down in the lobby. I told him I was stuck on the elevator at the BWV and couldnt get out. He asked Are you in distress, sir? Grrr I said Im not a sir! And no, Im not in distress, YET! Okay, sir, well get someone over there as soon as possible Now I know I have a deep voice, but this guy was starting to annoy me so I just said OK. Well no one came and after 15 minutes and my sister is outside laughing so hard her sides hurt! I called back, again he said theyre on their way,sir Grrr .if I could have reached through phone! Now its getting close inside and Im feeling pretty hot,,,,AND Im getting an attitude! I told my sister to go make me a frozen mudslide in the room with an extra long straw in it, as I was thirsty J But she didnt want to leave me there alone (she wanted a few more laughs). Then she spots the house phone over on a table, DOH,,,and I told her to call downstairs. Ten minutes later a couple of employees came up with some kind of tool and finally got the dang door open! They were apologetic, and put some tape across door opening so no one would use it (they said they couldnt shut it down because then it would have to be reprogrammed). Guess what I had when I got back to the room J Make it a double, Tree!

), and the last time, we had to use the above trick to get the doors open. This happened at a VERY fancy Carribean resort that I shall not name here. We felt our cable snap as we got to the lobby level, and then we fell about 2 feet and the emergency cable took over. It was a little scary, but what was even worse was that we were in the elevator with a 20-something girl who actually was claustrophobic. It took us a few minutes to figure out how to get ourselves out, and it's a good thing that we did. Maintenance never showed up! Apparently they went to the wrong bank of elevators!! The poor girl in the elevator with us was having a full-out panic attack by the time my husband and I got the doors open. Also, after we got out, the girl and I had to stand by the elevator while my husband went to find an employee because the elevator was 2 feet below the floor, but the doors were open...someone could have fallen in
The maintenance people that we finally did find (on our own...they never came to find us) had no idea that we were in there and no idea that there was now an elevator sitting frozen 2 feet below the lobby, just waiting for someone to fall in. The worst part of the experience was that they took all of our names and room numbers...I kept waiting to get a bill for a broken elevator, LOL
Seriously, I felt really bad for her...she was in a real panic
