No Debates About The Illegal Immigrants Issue?

Immigration laws have changed over the years and unless you are 100% Native American..your ancestors came here "illegally". So it is silly to suggest deporting anyone b/c then the entire country practically would have to be deported.

what does this even mean? at the time my ancestors came to america they all did so through the appropriate legal channels at the time. therefore they were legal, not illegal.

people who did not come through the appropriate legal channels are illegal.

:confused3

Well, I came to America because I heard the streets were paved with gold. When I got here I found out three things: first, the streets weren't paved with gold; second, they weren't paved at all; and third, I was expected to pave them.

Day 2 of another walkout by students . . . and now, from the Dallas Morning News (article below) it says that a girl (who should have had her hiney in class) was in an SUV (our tax dollars most likely paid for it) driven by . . . are you ready for this . . . an unlicensed 15 year old driver was seriously injured. Big surprise!

So the kids are basically seeing it is o.k. to be here illegally (no consequences), can miss school to "protest" (no consequences) and now feel it is their right to drive with no license. Great. Here is the article.

Girl's hand severed in protest-related wreck

03:04 PM CST on Tuesday, March 28, 2006

From Staff Reports

At least one girl was seriously injured Tuesday morning in an accident involving a vehicle carrying students to immigration protests at City Hall.

Witnesses said 18-year-old H. Grady Spruce High School student Yadira Ortiz's hand was severed when a sport-utility vehicle in which she was riding rolled over on the way to the gathering.

Dallas Independent School District spokesman Donald Claxton said officers observed the vehicle, driven by an unlicensed 15-year-old, weaving through traffic near Skyline High School just before the crash at 10 a.m.

"We were attempting to catch up with them, and unfortunately they came through this intersection at a high rate of speed," he said. "This is an example of what can go wrong when they go wild."
A boy who identified himself as the victim's brother told WFAA-TV that "when the car flipped, her hand just tore off."

Authorities said Ortiz was taken to Baylor University Medical Center and was listed Tuesday afternoon in fair condition. No other serious injuries were reported.

Spruce Principal Ardis McCann said he spoke to students Monday to persuade them not to walk out but to unite in a more productive protest that wouldn’t require missing school.

“We asked the teachers to talk to the kids this morning about the correct process of making change and getting organized, doing a petition and getting the information to the proper people who can make change,” he said.

Claxton said district officials can do little to keep students in class, but were watching the walkouts closely. He cited Tuesday's accident as an example that "it's getting dangerous (and) people are starting to suffer consequences."

"We've got numerous officers out, trying to keep the kids safe,” he said.

Technically, even the 100% Native Americans came from somewhere! Just because someone arrived first doesn't give them forever rights to the land. (Just ask those Native Americans!)

We can't afford to save the world when we have children/elderly starving in the US. There are many people here legally that are choosing amongst housing, food, or meds.

There have to be laws, and they need to be enforcable!

Yes they did. They came from land that Columbus later called America. Columbus didn't discover squat. :confused3 Just because we took their land doesn't mean they came from elsewhere.

DH and I were just talking about this the other day. It is SOOOOOOOOOO frustrating, we hate it when people are like,"They just want a better life, its hard where they come from, everone deserves a better life." That's a load of CRAP! Them just being here and living in a shack in the USA instead of where ever they came from is a better life. They want to leach off the government because, well that's okay. Since they aren't white(because europeans can't live here illegally) the government just gives them hand out after hand out. Around here there are more hispanics than anything anymore and while I realize that they aren't all illeagel, it's maddening none the less when standing in line behind them at walmart with their 2 baskets full of grocerys, paying with their foodstamps and loading those grocerys up into their new SUVS and big trucks. :confused3

I just love the picture of your tot with a rifle. I just love your psalms. I love what a rascist you are!
Illegal immigrants need to be returned but boy does this topic show peoples true colors! Do you think Jesus only cares about YOUR white children?

I think that America's dirty little secret as to why nothing is done about illegal immigration is because a huge portion of our businesses here in the states, from construction, to landscaping, to textile manufacturing, and so on depends on these workers for be competitive in today's economy. Why do you think that President Bush is so behind a guest worker program, while so many Americans are angred over this type policy? Why do you think that every time the President is asked about illegal immigration, he does this huge song and dance about how America is a nation of immigrants and tap dances around the question? The realistic answer is that American business needs these illegal immigrants to keep our manufacturing economy strong, and yes...I'm going to agree with the President, he is 100% correct on this one.

He tap dances because he needs the Hispanic votes. That is pure politics. Perhaps that is why this issue has not been dealt with head on for years and years. This just didn't happen overnight.

I want neighbors I can depend on, socialize with at block parties and know at least a little bit so I can say hi when walking the dog!

So socialize with them - say hello, if even in English. Jeesh, just because Spanish is their native language doesn't mean you can't be cordial in your native language.

Then what the heck are we doing in Iraq spending millions of dollars? Why aren't enough people outraged about that kind of spending?? Money is money, and that money isn't here feeding, clothing, and sheltering.

I totally agree! :thumbsup2

And what amazes me is that they don't mind waving Mexican flags, refusing to better themselves by learning English, and breaking numerous laws (not just their illegal status), but expect freebies from us Americans.

I can assure you, if I were dirt poor and had to go to another country to have a better life, and that country offered me all the handouts these leeches here get, I would be proud to wave their flag, get a job and be a productive, tax-paying citizen. :flower:

When you paint all hispanics with the same brush (handouts, food stamps, SUV's) thats rascism.

Like George Bush's Mexican sister-in-law married to Jeb? I guess she is OK because she is related to George? Oh she is a tax paying productive member of society? Guess what? So are hundreds of thousands of Hispanics in the US.

Good old Columba. Wasn't she caught for failing to declare (to customs) $19,000 worth of clothes & jewelry bought during a Paris shopping spree?

If so I hope she was properly prosecuted.

Actually, it's just a hasty generalization: drawing a conclusion about a group of people based on a very small sample.

If I painted all "soccer moms" with a broad brush and said that they all drove SUVs and shopped at Talbots, that wouldn't be racism, either.

Plus, I think most of us here are talking about ILLEGAL hispanics, all of whom are getting handouts by the simple fact that they're here and using our resources.

Uh, I never said some Hispanics were not productive members of society. I know many who are -- and they are also appalled (listen to talk radio and you will hear this as well from callers) that so many illegals are getting handouts and not being here legally, like they are.

By the way, how many protesting Swedes do you see waving the Swedish flag whining about us talking about getting tougher on illegal immigration? German flags? Japanese flags? Anybody?

Again, I never saw Mommypoppins as a racist -- big difference in saying, "every Mexican in America". Mommypoppins never said that.

Tell you what, you just move down here in Texas (a border state), for a while. Then you can have much clearer understanding of what is really going on, in our majority minority state. And yes, Mexicans being the majority minority. And yes, most of them I would easily say are illegal aliens.

Well, it seems, at least here on the DIS, that the debate over illegal immigration has reached a stalemate. I'm just glad that the members of Congress have decided to take an honest look at our immigration policy, which works for no one right now, and make the proper reforms to the law. I, for one, am on the side of the Kennedy-McCain Bill that just passed the Senate Judiciary Committee, and hope that after some serious wrangling, America can come up with a compassionate policy that also secures our borders.

You do know that the earlier Americans came from Europe originally, don't you?

First of all you are not the OP I responded to. Read her post. It was rascist. I am not saying illegal immigration is not a problem. It is a huge problem especially for those in border states. I grew up the the Bronx NY. Do you think we didn't have huge immigration problems in the 60's and 70's? And still going strong? I agree the borders need to be closed and should have been a long time ago. I also think if you are here illegally you need to go back and try to enter legally. I just think that Holy Rollers quoting the Bible out of one side of their mouth and saying Hispanics are all here for handouts sullies the argument. The Jesus I believe in had dark skin and loves all children not just those that look like me.

I take it back. Your post was rascist also. Leeches?
