Okay - so how do i start???? We are going to Orlando next week so this might be a bad month to start. he he.

Do I start out with a rule - I will not spend $ except on this? Or do i set a goal of - i will not spend any more than X on these items? HELP!!

I do give up shopping every year for lent so maybe there is hope for me. :)

I think you'll get a different answer from everyone ;)

I only report on my own personal spending - most of our household bills are direct debit and/or have a budgeted amount that is pretty accurate in most cases (double income no kids - except the furry kind).

My personal spending is where I can make the most impact - so I try to work out what I expect to spend in the month and then put in a buffer (just in case...).

It I think also depends on how close you are to living within your means and if you are working towards a specific goal.

Our goals are currently -
1) Pay off the mortgage
2) Build up our savings

Unfortunately goals 1&2 are kind of opposites so we have cut back on our extra mortgage payments a bit in order to bump up our savings in case one/both of us loses our jobs - we work for the same company.

We are doing well - chunk 1 of the mortgage (its broken into 4 bits) is scheduled to be paid off by end of July and we have two months of household expenses saved and are working to build that up further before chunk 2 of the mortgage is our next goal.

:lmao:I like that!! I'm going to borrow your idea as well. I've allowed myself up to 4 strikes this month, however next month I'm going to try to stick to a 3 strikes rule!!! :thumbsup2

Ok I think I will give this a try. Some of you seem to be doing awesome. My downfalls are eating out. Just going to do my personal spending and track my grocery $ to see if I can lower it a bit. Jumping in as of today the 4th.

June 4th- $1.40 Coffee on the way to work

Spent $10.70 on two footlongs at subway today because the stoopid dance company that my daughters dance at has their recital an HOUR AND FORTY MINUTES from their studio :furious:

That's how long it took us to get over there, in the rain, to do ten minutes of rehearsal on the stage, then an hour and 40 back, and we were exhausted and hungry so stopped for Subway (the last six inch segment's in the fridge for lunch tomorrow).

The kicker is the girls have their recitals on two different days so we're doing that treck on saturday and sunday. That's the equivalent driving time of going down to Disney!

And it's not like you can't find a stage around where we live, throw a rock and there's a state of the art high school or performing arts center within 5 miles...

argh, vent over. And it's been a while since we've eaten at subway, I had cucumbers on my ham and cheese sub, it was delish.

For two days...

$13.76 eating out (ug)
16.94 laundry soap (a 200 load jug)
12.88 baby outfit
12.88 misc gift
27.31 groceries (walnuts, lettuce, bananas, ground beef, sun chips and bottled water)

I also bought $10 in gas (I think, I misplaced the receipt, it will show on the card shortly).

I also bought a twin bed, a twin bed frame, $430ish in paint, flowers, spray paint and potting soil for the new house for a total of $842.19. Those purchases are in a separate "moving into the house" column for the month. I have 1K to spend and still need a large rug for the dining room.

Whew!

Groceries 131.45/200
Eating Out 31.35/50
Cats 50/50
Gas 50/60
Baby Loot 47.12/60
Mama Loot 40/40
Yardsale 50/50
Misc 37.18/67

Eh, well, not so great of a day here. Our kitchen at school was closed today (I'm a pre-k teacher) so I had to run to McDonald's to grab lunch. That was $2. I play on a softball league on Thursday nights and after the game everyone wanted ice cream, so that was $9 for the family. Finally, had to buy a new t-shirt for a little girl in my class because the one she was working on got messed up by another little boy. That was $2 at Walgreens.

Total: $3240 $2538.06 left

1 - groceries $40
2 - $0 YEAH!
3 - groceries $4, $15, gas $70
4 - paper towels $6, juice $3, kids shoes $311.94 :scared1: (I just have to buy quality shoes for the kiddos when they're this young and there was a sale buy 1 get one half off... got six pairs (sneakers and sandles all Geox except the soccer cleats) that they desperately needed but still, paid way more than I expected)
5 - $200 Disney store closing sale; $50 protein supplement for DH; $12 prescription for DS1 sinus infection

I started using coupons a few months ago. I'm saving a fortune. I wish we had as many available as in the US though. Not that many here. They also don't do double coupon days. My main problem is finding such great deals on items using coupons on sale items that I end up spending a little on things I normally wouldnt buy ... like granola bars. I need to stick to things I always buy. I've also started entering contests. We've won two sets of movie passes, 2010 Olympic sweatshirt, books, DS game and hot air balloon rides all in the past two weeks along with the free pizza for a year we won a few months ago ... and now I'm waiting for lightening to strike

I am trying really hard to make today my first $0 day of the month. I resisted the Starbucks this morning and just drank the tea that we have in my office. I also remembered to bring a Coke from home with my lunch, so NO soda run this afternoon!

We HAVE to buy a water heater this month but if it wasn't for that we are off to a great start in June.

No eating out so far...not even to McD's for a sweet tea. Just enjoying simple things. We are going to spend our weekends working in the yard and playing outside. Taking walks. Going to the park. No extra driving. All money spent will be for necessary items (toliet paper, food, diapers etc)

I've done this before and saved a good $500 that month.

This is a little off topic but I want to brag. Our cars will be paid off in the next 6 months!!!!! That's going to be extra money too because I am not buying another car for at least another 5 years unless it's a situation that I must buy a another one.

Life is good when it's simple!
