Two zero days in a row!

Plus, I rolled up my change, turned in my bottles and counted my couponing money (each time I use a coupon at the grocery store, I put that amount of money into a jar) and I have a grand total of $111. This is 8 weeks of savings so I am mightly pleased amd ready for my Detroit Tiger's vacation trek next week.

I still can't figure out how I can work every day this week for 5+ hour, plus an hour drive each way to and from work (which is why I had to fill up twice and I put 400 miles on my car), and not manage a zero day. I'm going to blame it on the kids, lol...

Next week I'm only going into work 1 day on wed morning :worship: to help my replacement with the mailing-that was the one thing we didn't work on this week.

My total spending so far for this month is $1828.28. I'm not sure I'm going to make it under 2k total, but I did keep the credit card under 2k because I got paid yesterday and that should help me make it through the rest of the month as long as I'm careful. We have a 1 day trip to hilton head next week but we should be ok with just gas and food, and I plan on bringing breakfast and snacks to help keep the costs down...

Kinntj - I can thank the Detroit Tigers for making today's lunch free. In this area, if the Tigers hit 3 or more home runs in a game, the next day you can bring in a copy of the box score and get a free sandwich from Arby's. Yesterday they, hit 4 home runs so I printed out 3 box scores and took my two nieces to lunch. Actually, I bought them drinks so lunch out for the three of us cost $4.

I think you are being hard on yourself, you are reporting days where you are only spending on gas and groceries - you gotta eat and get to your job. I never report on these types of items. I have a budget for them but virtually never report on them - I only report on the items that I consider non-essential which I can do something about - which for me is usually food related - there is perfectly good/cheaper food at home.

I realized that part of it was because I was working so much (my total for last week when you add driving time was a 45 hour week plus being a parent), that I didn't have time to coordinate my shopping at all-if I was hungry, we got food, if I was out of gas, we stopped, the heck with what day it was.

At one point during the week I was looking at the receipts going, I don't even remember buying this! (I think it was the second round of gas). I was that tired...

My DH was grumbling about my serviceable 6 yo mazda minivan when he was driving yesterday, and asking me about the obama cash for clunkers. He also thought we should buy a diesel or a hybrid for our next car, so I did all this research (because I love cars, I really do), and came up with three good options for our family, and he was like, oh, forget it, way too expensive. :furious:.

Well, duh, how much do you THINK a hybrid SUV or a diesel station wagon's gonna cost! But I'm trying not to be too pissy about it because it's father's day.

I just now need to figure out a way to save 40k for a hybrid toyota highlander, a lexus rx 400h, or an audi A3 sportwagon turbodiesel (all of which get nearly combined 30 mpg!)...:rotfl2:

Major confession today - wasted $1 at the library hiring a DVD - there is a limit to how many Stargate/Star Trek reruns I can watch when there is nothing else on TV - I consider it sanity money! :rotfl2:

22nd - $1 for DVD rental at the library
21st - $0
20th - $7.50 for lunch (revised amount as Robert paid me back)
19th - $3.50 for a packet of biscuits (cookies) to take to my brother's tomorrow
18th - $0
17th - $0

Paula, I don't think of this as wasted. Entertainment should be in the budget and I think that for $1, you did well! You didn't go and buy a DVD! Our entertainment is the t.v. cable and the internet, and trust me-they are a LOT more than $1! :rolleyes1

Look at your $0 days! We've managed 3 $0 days in the entire month... :sad2:

Oh, Joanne, that's a bummer about DH dropping his bike. Is it a cruiser? I like the crash bars you can put on the front of bikes, um, here:

1213888921-56031_full.jpg

They protect gear shifts, etc. It's not hard to put them on the bike.

The bike I learned to ride on had them, which was a good thing because at the training sessions I crashed TWICE. Yes, I can ride anything with four hooves but apparently not with two wheels. It's ok, I'm perfectly happy to ride b*tch with my DH (that's means riding on the back for the non motorcycle crowd), and until he gets a bike with a back seat I won't be riding at all (it's been ten years since I've ridden with him).

Anyhoo, that was a bit OT!

I did have a $0 on saturday! woot!

June 20: $0 (my second, I think?)
June 21: $10 at walmart for tshirt for BF for her Bday.

Oh, Joanne, that's a bummer about DH dropping his bike. Is it a cruiser? I like the crash bars you can put on the front of bikes

He drives a Ducati 848. I asked about getting crash bars but they just don't come with the sport bikes... or at least he's not willing to put it on if they do. I think I may actually learn to ride myself when the kids are a bit older. Right now, the only time I get to ride on back is when we have a sitter for the kids. I didn't think I'd like it but I just love going for a ride. When you learn to ride here you don't have to use your own bike which is awesome. It means if I drop/crash a bike, its not mine. It'll make learning a lot easier I think.

On to the budget ... I can't seem to stop spending this month. There's always something. I had to write a cheque for $20 for NEXT YEAR's school fees... can you believe that? And I won tickets to the Transformers pre screening so DH and I went last night. Turns out our free movie cost $30 for the sitter and $20 for food :rotfl2:

22 - $22.50 service for van; $30 sitter; $20 food at theatre; $20 school fees

Yeah, the sport bikes generally don't have crash bars, I think...

June 22: $23 (ish) at Publix, 25 at Ace Hardware for new filters and floor polish (glamorous shopping, my favorite kind...)

I'm on the laptop right now so I don't have my spreadsheet in front of me to post exact #'s but I will later. I'm still under 2k for the credit card (still at 1400) I'll probably go over for the month. I need to reset my don't spend more than 1200 since in the 8 months I've been trying I only came close once, so it's not a reasonable target. I'll try and rethink levels for normal months and "cold turkey" months today (as I'm cleaning the floor-which desperately needs it!)

Where has everybody else gone? I know I'm not the only one overspending this month-everyone else fess up!!!

I started out writing down every cent I spent including all bills, cash or otherwise - its amazing how it trickles away and I found I'd easily forget if I didn't write it down.

It might help you see why you aren't saving.
