My grand plans for organizing meals and cooking more with the girls has really been pfft! this month. :rolleyes1

I really need to find some sort of menu planner online that has food we like (it's either too processed or too vegetarian/thai/asian, it seems like). Just looking for fresh, from scratch, not low fat or diet, simple meals. Harder than you think! Or maybe I'm just an idiot:surfweb:.

Next month: cold turkey!

It is 96 degrees and the third HOT day in a row.

Went to dinner with three girlfriends so we could sit under an umbrella and chat rather than heating up ourelves and our kitchens. (DHs got microwaved leftovers or the chance to make themselves sandwiches).

Twelve dollars wasn't part of this month's Cold Turkey. But I drank water, didnt' have a dessert, and enjoyed every penny.

This board and all of you helped me avoid lots of impulse buys in June. So, it's been good even if I wasn't perfect.

I have done unbeivable well with my no buy June until yesterday when some jerk broke into my car and stole my GPS which was hidden under the seat but the cord was visable (so they could have broken my window for nothing if I had brought the stupid thing into work with me). They went through the glove box but were into big of a hurry to really look!
They missed my bank deposit ($over 1000.00), $200.00 worth of giftcards, my coupon book with grocery money and gift cards and finally and envelope with my son's Christmas money that I forgot to deposit.
I am grateful that it only cost me around $200.00 for a new GPS and window $55.00. (Hopefully they won't use the take me home feature to go to my house but my German Shepherd and Pit Bull can take care of that).
So much for paying $50.00 a pay period for my "secure" parking lot spot.

extremesoccermom, I would be so mad if I paid $50/paycheck for a "secure" parking spot and then had my car broken into! Will your company reimburse you for your losses at all? Ugh, I'd be livid if I were in your situation. At least they didn't get your money or giftcards! :scared1:

No they told me they could file a report and call my insurance company but that was all. They used to have a security gaurd in a tower on the lot but due to budget cuts he is no longer there. (Ofcourse he really didn't do much good since last winter a couple of cars were hit when he was away on lunch break). I called the police and they took a report also but would not even fingerprint since it is a misdemeanor. (If they had tampered with the steering then they would have fingerprinted).

extremesoccermom I'm really sorry to hear about your GPS theft. I'd be really angry too but at least you didn't loose all the other stuff. Its a good reminder to me that I shouldn't leave my ipod/iphone in the car when I leave it either - even if only for a short while.

Today was another $0 - I got groceries this morning (which I don't include here) and then came home and made a big batch of soup as it was so cold.

Leeks (99c each) and sweet potatoes ($1.99/kg) were on special at the supermarket. So I chopped them up with a couple of carrots, two stock cubes a couple of teaspoons of curry powder and a heaped teaspoon of grated ginger, threw in a handful of red lentils and boiled it for about 30 minutes. Popped it all in the blender and that was lunch for us 2 and enough for four lunches to take to work. And it was super yummy and hit the spot too.

I'm well over budget this month but at least it wasn't anything I consider frivolous - my big extras were the dentist and Greenpeace annual donation. The dentist I'd completely forgotten about and I thought the GP was next month - so my budget is looking healthy for July ;)

On the plus side, I got back about $230 for my tax return (for donations).

:wave2: Hi there! Just wanted to pop in and say hello!

I totally overspent in May but barely anything in June so I'm thinking it roughly evened out. :rolleyes1

Just got back from two weeks in the Canadian wilderness - really easy to not spend money where no civilation exists. Hoping to not spend any money until July. Looking forward to starting back up No Buy!

Uh oh, that's going to be a tight few days!

That's such a bummer that you got your GPS stolen. A friend of mine who's a police lieutenant says that the thieves look for the "sucker spot" (no pun intended) where people stick their GPS's to the windshield. A spot on the windshield=GPS somewhere in the car.

Paula, the way you eat I'm not at all surprised you have healthy gums :).

Did you find yourself trying to trade furs and shells instead of shopping :rotfl2:

I just got back from 2 days at Disney's Hilton Head Resort. I really liked it, it was very low-key and relaxing. Best of all our OOp was $252.51, that includes all gas, souvies, and food. Not bad for a family of four over two days on vaca :yay:.

Despite the sunscreen, we're all pretty tan. My older DD who has black hair and green eyes is as brown as a nut and younger DD with blue eyes and blonde hair has skin the same color as her hair and her eyebrows have disappeared into the golden-ness . Poor DH, who was working 65 hour days and was vampire white got a little sunburned on his shoulders but not too badly. It's good that he got some color and fresh air and sunshine. :lovestruc

Today was a zero day, and fri and sat were exempted (but still tracked). Two more days to go!

That's what makes me so mad at myself. I always bring my GPS in with me even though I leave the holder up. This morning I was running late and just threw it under the seat.

Another budget buster from this weekend:
As we were getting ready for DD14 softball game I asked her where her equipment was? In the car. UM, No it isn't. it was in the backseat when the car was broken into! We had 1/2hour to find a lefty softball glove, batting gloves, bag and adjustable batting helmet! We found all but the helmet and I have since found one online.
approx $100.00 over budget.
It's a good thing I have done well the last couple of months but I am wondering what else I will find missing in the next few days.

I'm raking in the extra dough this month! Sold our futon yesterday to a friend who is starting his hospital internship and needed some budget furniture for his close-to-the-hospital intern-crash-pad (a la Grey's Anatomy). We've been meaning to sell the thing for ages and get something nicer that matches our couch, but we were lazy about it. We're now down a few sitting spaces & one guest bed, but we're up $150. :thumbsup2
