No Buy June - Everybody welcome, jump on the bandwagon!

Just curious...I know we all record our "no-buy" in different ways...but I see so many posts about groceries...:confused3
I factor groceries into my budget & only post if I go over my budgeted amount - is that what you all are doing also?
Just curious, i know we all walk a different budget path!

We're in! I'm shooting for 12 no-buy days this month.

6/1 $0
6/2 $9 - Argh! This was going to be no-buy, but DH stopped after work and bought snacks and ice cream because he noticed we were getting low.

1 of 12 $0 days so far

I keep track of everything, groceries and otherwise. If I didn't, I'd lose track of what I had spent so far and probably go over my total budget for the month. I think we are all doing this a little differently, but the accountability is great and it is fun for me to challenge myself by asking, "Do I really need this and want to blow a $0 day on it?" before I buy it. Whatever works for you! :thumbsup2

Well for us groceries are a variable expense, I keep track of it to try and make sure that I stay within my budget. If I don't track it somehow I hardly ever stay on budget. If I track it like posting here I can see it in black and white how close I'm getting to going over. I try to use the envelope system but find that we steal from there for other things.

Groceries are a big deal for me this month. I really want to save off of my food money, I have 1/4 cow, 1/2 pig and umpteen roaster chickens in the freezer. It's shameful that I still spend so much money on food. I need to focus on this.

I was hoping to not go to any stores until this weekend but I went to get the nail polish remover only to discover that my mom had used the last of it. I also needed paper for the printer as I did not have enough to print out all my online class items last night. Walgreen's had a good coupon on a pack of 400 sheets of paper and a good coupon to get Aquafresh toothpaste for only $.99.

*also I am adding in my coupon/store savings

My June Budget is:

Groceries- $200/ $139.22 left
Household- $50/ $40.25left
Gas/Car- $50
Eating Out/ Entertainment- $50/ $28.93 left
Misc- $50/ $35.01

Total budget: $400/ $293.41 left

Goal of 17 no buy days.

1/17 No Buy days

6/1- $21.07 Lunch, $60.78 Groceries, $4.06 Household, and $14.99 Alice in Wonderland
6/2- $0
6/3- $5.69 Walgreen's

Coupon/Store Savings: $55.95

For me, a no-buy is no one spending any money, including DH. I track everything for the month except for gas and YMCA registrations. But, groceries are pretty variable for me. But, definately do what works for you. I'm not trying for no-buys this month, just to spend a certain amount. Good luck! :)

LOL, I *completely* understand the losing track part. I'm looking for even more ways to nibble down my budget - so I was just curious (my downfall is eating meals outside the home, not groceries coming into the home!!)

My grocery budget is rarely varied, so I can see why I wasn't doing this, but someone else would. (ps, that must be one BIG freezer!!)

the things I know for sure I will be spending on, I dont post (which has been working for me) My areas of trouble are: impluse buys, eating meals out (or on the go) and emotional shopping (which is a whole other issue!)
so those are the things I try to post here, because as a pp said, it stops me to think "do I really want to ruin my no spend day with this purchase?" LOL
(or even the occasional "if you buy this, you have to post it!" )

Thanks to everyone for being so motivating and so nice!!

I record al groceries and gas and this is the part of No Buy my DH doesn't like. He believes since these are necessities just like the morgage that they should not be counted. I actually agree with him but have not changed the way I record. I have considered reconsidering  , but I have been doing so well this far so I haven't needed to. I think if I didn't count gas and groceries I could hit about 25 or more $0 days a month. :cool1:

I agree though, we are all doing what works for us.

My grocery budget is rarely varied, so I can see why I wasn't doing this, but someone else would. (ps, that must be one BIG freezer!!)

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
I should have mentioned that I have two freezers in my basement. And yes they are big, and pretty full.

June 1 - $12.00 groceries
June 2 - $0.00
June 3 - 123.48 groceries
$12.00 Dicks (new soccer shorts for DS12 whose legs are suddenly longer, this comes out of a separate fund for clothing, I didn't think it was such a bad deal though)

Remaining:
Groceries 764.52/$900.00
My allowance: $120
Fun Money: $100

So I made a grocery list, clipped a few coupons and made a meal plan before I went. I was out of some unusual things, cornmeal, baking powder etc. that added to my costs. It sure would be nice to save a little of my food money this month. That's really my goal this month. I am happy that I didn't cave and stop at Panera to get the kids dinner. Dh is working late and we were stuck at the grocery store until almost 6:00. I did it though, threw some fish on the grill for dinner instead. :thumbsup2
