No Buy June - Everybody welcome, jump on the bandwagon!

Hi All,
I have read through this thread and am impressed by everyone's goals and posts. I realized recently that I have no earthly idea how I am spending the money I take home. I see that many if not most of you have actual numbers attached to different line items. :worship: How did you come up with these numbers? I am particularly interested in groceries and allowance. This is my second month of being aware of spending and curtailing needless purchases, but I still haven't figured out how to get actual numbers for any of the categories. If anyone has any suggestions of where to begin, I would be grateful for the help!

Library Minnie do no fret, most of us here had no idea what to do when we started. I started by just writing down every thing I spent for the first two months. The third month I tried for 7 no spend days and wrote down every thing I spend. By the fourth month, I was able to put numbers to categories and now I adjust the amount for each category depending on what I have going on that month and if I have any special thing I need to save up for. If I want to save more then I budget less for eating out and misc. and try to stick to it.

I may actually have a shot at reaching my goal! :yay:

Hello all! :goodvibes I am new to this thread and am excited I found it! DH and I recently started doing the envelope system in an attempt to budget our money better and I feel this may be a great way for myself to be held accountable for our spending! Unfortunately, DH is the spender and I am the saver so we'll see how this works out!

We do have a mini-vacation scheduled for three days at WDW, but I have cash saved for those expenses that won't come from my budget.

June is my first attempt so wish me luck!

Hello Hello and welcome. We use an ordinary notebook. We get paid twice a month so I have everything broken down to be paid or distributed on the 15th and the 30th of the month. First I listed all of our monthly bills, mortgage, electric, phone etc. Than I listed deducting and automatically transfering for savings, than with what was left I allotted for spending money, allowance, groceries, fun money. I have found that when we started with spending money we didn't reach our savings goals. Also we have been doing this for several years so things have changed along the way. My allowance for the whole month used to be $40.00. Once things got a little "looser" around the purse strings area I gave myself a raise. :rotfl:

When I take the time to post here I really am able to keep track of where the $$$$ goes. Especially when I am trying to save in a particular category, this month groceries. Good Luck!

Good Morning All! Happy Friday!! :cool1::cool1::cool1:

June 2 - $0
June 3 - $28 ($22 for gas and $6 for apps and a drink with the girls)

Monthly Goal 10 No Buy Days!

:wizard: luck & pixie dust!!

welcome! these threads are always wonderful, everyone on them is super helpful and nice! :grouphug:

Do what feels right to you - not everyone does the "no-buy" the same way. But no matter how you do it, you will learn a lot about your spending habits...I know I sure did! :scared1::laughing:

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
I should have mentioned that I have two freezers in my basement. And yes they are big, and pretty full.

Thats awesome! Now your kids can look through two full freezers and a fridge before they declare "there's nothing to eat in this house!" :lmao:

Great idea to stock up though, my freezer is looking a little bare right now...

This weekend will include budgeted spending (bills, groceries, etc.) My breakfast spending today will come out of my "food" budget, but I still didnt expect to buy it. (I actually had food for breakfast, but decided I wanted "traditional" breakfast)

I'm totally in. I did this for the first time in March and did pretty well. I didn't join in April & May because they were serious spending months. I need to pipe down in June :P My husband started a new job and is away for 6 weeks (we're halfway there) so because of his new income and adjusting, I don't have a set budget for gas/groceries/food or anything like that, but I need to spend less and the no buy thread really helps with that since I like those no buy days No goals, just will account for what I spend!

1 - $0
2 - $0
3 -$8.37 eating out, $22.08 groceries
4 - $0

June 1 - $12.00 groceries
June 2 - $0.00
June 3 - 123.48 groceries
$12.00 Dicks
June 4 - $55.00 from my allowance - I had my nails done. I get these great solar pink and whites done, they always look good no matter what. My friends are always laughing at me that I am in the yard on my hands and knees digging in the dirt, mucking out the chicken coop baking my own bread and canning jelly and I go and get my nails done. The fact that I am digging in the dirt and mucking out the chicken coop and everything else is exactly why I get my nails done. :rotfl: Dh doesn't care and I always use my allowance for it. It's my little harmless luxury, besides that, I work at home usually but sometimes I have to go to the office for a conference or something and I can't really go in with dirt under my nails (or worse). :lmao:

Remaining:
Groceries 764.52/$900.00
My allowance: $65.00/$120
Fun Money: $100

So my nails are my downfall, but on the flip side I had to take the kids with me since they are home from school now. We wandered around the mall, peeked in the Disney store for inspiration for our trip in August and I had packed our lunch so we went to the nearby park and ate our lunch. Could have easily spent too much money getting lunch. Packed sandwiches, grapes, cookies and the kids got to play, everybody was happy.
