Off to a less than great start....but at least today I've really been spending to save (isn't that always the excuse?) - the $11 Dollar Tree run this morning was to buy a bunch of snacky foods for our trip this weekend and a few other needed things. Last month when I went to the airport without snacks on hand, I was overcome by the munchies and ended up spending a ridiculous amount for a package of Twizzlers and some chicken tenders! So this time I am going prepared, esp. since I'll have the daughter with me and she's a non-stop eating machine.

The $6 at WalMart today was the result of my searching for the stupid $4 24-pack of Cokes they have advertised this week. Before this sale, just last week when they were $5 a pack, they had pallets and pallets and pallets of the stuff. Now suddenly they are stocking only like 6 packs of diet cokes a day! I've been there 2 days in a row now, and only managed to score 1 pack. The workers there today had the nerve to tell me I needed to come back yet again and this time be there at 7am - then I "might" have a chance of getting some. Are you kidding me?? Come on - you had the things stacked in the aisles last week, now suddenly supply is so ridiculously tight that I have to be there the minute the doors open? Give me a break - my business will go to Target, thank you, even if I do have to pay a bit more. I don't support shady tactics just to get me in the store like advertising something at a super low price then purposely under stocking it just so you don't have to honor that price!!

(Due to my unique form of budgeting, my "month" runs 5/31-6/27)
5/31 $0
6/1 $42 Gas, $9 PetSmart, $13 WalMart, $15 Cell Phone Top-Up
6/2 $11 DollarTree, $6 WalMart

Total Spent - 96/865
No Buy Days - 1/12

Hopefully done with groceries for while. I'm trying to do more couponing, and part of couponing is stockpiling the stuff you use a lot. I'm going with the idea that this saves money in the long run.

Virgderon - you and I think alike on coupons.

I did not immediately need anything that I bought today but I matched sale items with coupons and saved over 45% - that is I got $21.53 worth of product for $14.03 And it is all for stuff that I will use in the next 30 days, I just did not need it this week but now is when the sale and the coupon matched. However, it is very hard to have the discipline to go in with the list and the coupons and not buy other stuff that catches my eye. In today's mail I received six coupons from Kraft for six totally free items and my goal is to go to the store, get just those six things and have the amount due after the coupons be zero.

Tiggerish, it's such a tough call! The grocery sales that start tomorrow are just loaded with stuff I use on a regular basis. And because I did no buy last month, my stockpile is dwindling. I'm not sure if no buy and couponing go together, but I do know that documenting what I buy for the no buy challenge keeps me honest about what I spend my money on.

Last month I spent $168 dollars less on groceries, toiletries and cleaning supplies than I did in April. If I am being honest, I think that was more due to aggressive couponing than no buy days, but for now I am sticking with both as a strategy to save.

I made this as a New Year's Resolution so after this month I will be half way to doing a whole year resolution and while this is the best I have ever done at one, I am excited to think I might do one for the whole year! That would be something! My goal is to surpass my normal goal of 15 No Spend Days.

Yeah it is hard doing No Buy and Couponing, as we couponers usually have to buy something nearly every day to get the good deals. I stocked up a ton the past two days on things (bought 320 Trash Bags and 180 ziploc gallon freezer bags...and over 300 cans of soda...don't think I will have to buy this stuff for a long time!). It will be interesting to do my numbers later tonight...out for another coupon run right now.
