Chapter 9 - Dinner at Whispering Canyon and Wishes, Too!
The girls calledthey were at the hotel and had no idea where our room was. I was so excited for them to see the hotel that I told them to come inside and stand by the Mercantile and Id be right there.
I waved to them from the balcony and then took the elevator down. One thing I must say about the elevators at the WL is that they are always right there when you need them!
I showed them around a bit and then we headed back up to the room. They loved it. They got all gussied up and then we went out to dinner. Yee Hawww it was time for dinner at Whispering Canyon!
In our earlier wanderings around the hotel, wed discovered the little staircase that comes out right at WCC. Like our own little back entrance. I wish Id taken pictures of itits hard for me to explain but you walk down some stairs, then through a glass door onto a bridge with glass walls, through another glass door, and down the stairs.
Here are the girls waiting for our buzzer to ring:
We were called pretty quickly and were shown to our table. This was not our first time at WCC and I was hoping wed get a server to pick on the girls. Enter Senor Dusty Roads.
The girls at first wanted to share a milkshake and I had a hard time explaining that two people could not share a bottomless drink. Cait ordered orange and Jenn, I believe, ordered chocolate. They decided to switch halfway through so they could try another flavor. When I asked them which flavor theyd liked better, they pointed at each others drink:
Thats when I pointed out that they could switch back if they wanted to.
Alex and I ordered the skillet and the girls each ordered chicken pasta. The skillet was greatthey were a little chintzy on the mashed potatoes at first but Dusty brought some more when I asked. The salad and cole slaw were great, as was the chicken. I dont eat ribs so Alex took the whole slab and really enjoyed them. The girls liked their chicken pasta but neither one of them eats too much at any given meal. Its more an all day Munch-a-thon.
Our meal went pretty quietly with no major teasing. We twirled our napkins for the Pony Trot and enjoyed some of the other antics going on. Dusty brought some stickers over for the little boys sitting next to us and came over to give some to the girls. They looked at each other and then peeled them off and stuck them all over Dusty. Troublemakers.
That started it! Dusty made an announcement to the restaurant that these two princesses were having trouble eating their meals and so we all needed to help them. He asked us all to make airplane noises while he fed Jenn:
Jenn was a good girl and obediently ate her forkful. If Dusty had asked me, though, I would have warned him that Cait has always been what is now referred to, I believe, as a strong willed child. Or, as I liked to call her when I had to deal with it as a toddler, a pain in the patootie. (Thats for bunnysmum!)
Dusty now requested that the restaurant make choo-choo noises for Caitlin. We all obligingly made the choo-choo-choo noises, he swooped the fork toward her mouth, and she refused to open up.
Dusty huffed in frustration and announced that perhaps the airplane noise would work better. We made the noise, he swooped the fork toward her mouth, and she refused to open up.
Thats about the time I kicked her under the table and said, EAT IT. Apparently, thats what I should have been doing all those years because it worked. She may have opened her mouth in shock and surprise but she opened it and he shoved the fork in.
It was pretty hysterical. And I was glad hed picked on them. At last.
The little boy next to us was celebrating a birthday and a good sized cake was delivered out and we all sang. What cracked me up was that after all the attention had shifted away from the table and his mother had cut the cakegiving identical slices of the same cake to him and his brother, he decided that he REALLY wanted his brothers piece of cake. His brother very sweetly traded him and all was well.
After a fun and filling dinner, we left WCC. The girls wanted to take advantage of EMHs at MGM. Alex and I wanted to see Wishes so we split up again after I gave the girls a very specific curfew. Hey, Id learned my lesson!
Alex and I took the boat over to the MK. As we were leaving the dock, a scene worthy of the movie, The Birds, met my eye. I took a picture of all the creepy, creepy birds just sitting there, staring at us. Luckily the boat startled them and they all flew away at once:
Spectro was just ending as we entered Main Street. We snuck down the street and headed to Adventureland. I really wanted to try the new PoTC and there was no line at all.
I loved the changes and the only thing that ruined our voyage was the lady behind us who insisted on taking a photograph using a blinding flash every time Johnny DeppI mean, Captain Jack Sparrowappeared. So, I enjoyed it but had a hard time actually SEEING Captain Jack. Id hoped I might get to do this again but no luck.
Part of my to-do list included watching Wishes from inside the park instead of the bus stop. By the time we got back toward the castle, it was packed but we managed to find a bit of railing on the bridge between Adventureland and Main Street to lean against. We had a bit of a wait but it was a very pleasant evening and we enjoyed just watching all the kids running around.
Once Wishes started, we realized we were a bit too far to the left to really appreciate the fireworks but I did get a few nice pictures:
This one looks a little scary, doesn't it?
As the show ended, approximately 7 zillion people headed for the exit. Alex was all for making our escape right then but I couldnt bear the thought of shuffling down Main Street with all those people. We stopped and got a Diet Coke from Caseys and sat at a table to wait. After about 15 minutes, the worst of the rush was over and we were able to stroll right down the street and out to the boat launch which had approximately 1 zillion people waiting for the boat to the WL and Fort Wilderness. Aarrgghh. Right about this time, I was wishing we were able to WALK to our resort. Staying at a Epcot area resort has spoiled me.
It took another hour for us to get on a boat and get back to the WL.
As we arrived, I got a phone call from the girls. Somehow, Caitlin had lost her room key and they were unable to stay for EMH and were on their way back. Cait was a bit freaked out because there were a bunch of kids waiting for the Pop Century bus who were yelling and hollering and she was afraid there was going to be a riot. She asked me to stay on the phone with her until they were on their bus.
Once they arrived, I made a quick trip down to the front desk to get her missing room key sorted out. Luckily, at 11:30 at night, I was the only one in line and the CM was able to cancel her other key and issue a new one. After that, we all conked out pretty much immediately. I was afraid I wouldn't be able to sleep on the WL beds but they were much more comfortable than I'd expected.
