NMAmy's To Do List - 4/26-Update-Page 21-The End

Chapter 9 - Dinner at Whispering Canyon and Wishes, Too!

The girls called—they were at the hotel and had no idea where our room was. I was so excited for them to see the hotel that I told them to come inside and stand by the Mercantile and I’d be right there.

I waved to them from the balcony and then took the elevator down. One thing I must say about the elevators at the WL is that they are always right there when you need them!

I showed them around a bit and then we headed back up to the room. They loved it. They got all gussied up and then we went out to dinner. Yee Hawww…it was time for dinner at Whispering Canyon!

In our earlier wanderings around the hotel, we’d discovered the little staircase that comes out right at WCC. Like our own little back entrance. I wish I’d taken pictures of it—it’s hard for me to explain but you walk down some stairs, then through a glass door onto a bridge with glass walls, through another glass door, and down the stairs.

Here are the girls waiting for our buzzer to ring:

17858wdw76-med.jpg

We were called pretty quickly and were shown to our table. This was not our first time at WCC and I was hoping we’d get a server to pick on the girls. Enter Senor Dusty Roads.

The girls at first wanted to share a milkshake and I had a hard time explaining that two people could not share a “bottomless” drink. Cait ordered orange and Jenn, I believe, ordered chocolate. They decided to switch halfway through so they could try another flavor. When I asked them which flavor they’d liked better, they pointed at each other’s drink:

17858wdw77-med.jpg

That’s when I pointed out that they could switch back if they wanted to. :rotfl2:

Alex and I ordered the skillet and the girls each ordered chicken pasta. The skillet was great—they were a little chintzy on the mashed potatoes at first but Dusty brought some more when I asked. The salad and cole slaw were great, as was the chicken. I don’t eat ribs so Alex took the whole slab and really enjoyed them. The girls liked their chicken pasta but neither one of them eats too much at any given meal. It’s more an all day Munch-a-thon.

Our meal went pretty quietly with no major teasing. We twirled our napkins for the Pony Trot and enjoyed some of the other antics going on. Dusty brought some stickers over for the little boys sitting next to us and came over to give some to the girls. They looked at each other and then peeled them off and stuck them all over Dusty. Troublemakers.

17858wdw78-med.jpg

That started it! Dusty made an announcement to the restaurant that these two princesses were having trouble eating their meals and so we all needed to help them. He asked us all to make airplane noises while he fed Jenn:

17858wdw79-med.jpg

Jenn was a good girl and obediently ate her forkful. If Dusty had asked me, though, I would have warned him that Cait has always been what is now referred to, I believe, as a “strong willed child.” Or, as I liked to call her when I had to deal with it as a toddler, a “pain in the patootie.” (That’s for bunnysmum!)

Dusty now requested that the restaurant make choo-choo noises for Caitlin. We all obligingly made the choo-choo-choo noises, he swooped the fork toward her mouth, and she refused to open up.

17858wdw80-med.jpg

Dusty huffed in frustration and announced that perhaps the airplane noise would work better. We made the noise, he swooped the fork toward her mouth, and she refused to open up.

17858wdw81-med.jpg

That’s about the time I kicked her under the table and said, “EAT IT.” Apparently, that’s what I should have been doing all those years because it worked. She may have opened her mouth in shock and surprise but she opened it and he shoved the fork in.

It was pretty hysterical. And I was glad he’d picked on them. At last.

The little boy next to us was celebrating a birthday and a good sized cake was delivered out and we all sang. What cracked me up was that after all the attention had shifted away from the table and his mother had cut the cake—giving identical slices of the same cake to him and his brother, he decided that he REALLY wanted his brother’s piece of cake. His brother very sweetly traded him and all was well.

After a fun and filling dinner, we left WCC. The girls wanted to take advantage of EMH’s at MGM. Alex and I wanted to see Wishes so we split up again after I gave the girls a very specific curfew. Hey, I’d learned my lesson!

Alex and I took the boat over to the MK. As we were leaving the dock, a scene worthy of the movie, The Birds, met my eye. I took a picture of all the creepy, creepy birds just sitting there, staring at us. Luckily the boat startled them and they all flew away at once:

17858wdw82-med.jpg

Spectro was just ending as we entered Main Street. We snuck down the street and headed to Adventureland. I really wanted to try the new PoTC and there was no line at all.

I loved the changes and the only thing that ruined our voyage was the lady behind us who insisted on taking a photograph using a blinding flash every time Johnny Depp—I mean, Captain Jack Sparrow—appeared. So, I enjoyed it but had a hard time actually SEEING Captain Jack. I’d hoped I might get to do this again but no luck.

Part of my to-do list included watching Wishes from inside the park instead of the bus stop. By the time we got back toward the castle, it was packed but we managed to find a bit of railing on the bridge between Adventureland and Main Street to lean against. We had a bit of a wait but it was a very pleasant evening and we enjoyed just watching all the kids running around.

Once Wishes started, we realized we were a bit too far to the left to really appreciate the fireworks but I did get a few nice pictures:

This one looks a little scary, doesn't it?

17858wdw87-med.jpg

17858wdw88-med.jpg

As the show ended, approximately 7 zillion people headed for the exit. Alex was all for making our escape right then but I couldn’t bear the thought of shuffling down Main Street with all those people. We stopped and got a Diet Coke from Casey’s and sat at a table to wait. After about 15 minutes, the worst of the rush was over and we were able to stroll right down the street and out to the boat launch which had approximately 1 zillion people waiting for the boat to the WL and Fort Wilderness. Aarrgghh. Right about this time, I was wishing we were able to WALK to our resort. Staying at a Epcot area resort has spoiled me.

It took another hour for us to get on a boat and get back to the WL.

As we arrived, I got a phone call from the girls. Somehow, Caitlin had lost her room key and they were unable to stay for EMH and were on their way back. Cait was a bit freaked out because there were a bunch of kids waiting for the Pop Century bus who were yelling and hollering and she was afraid there was going to be a riot. She asked me to stay on the phone with her until they were on their bus.

Once they arrived, I made a quick trip down to the front desk to get her missing room key sorted out. Luckily, at 11:30 at night, I was the only one in line and the CM was able to cancel her other key and issue a new one. After that, we all conked out pretty much immediately. I was afraid I wouldn't be able to sleep on the WL beds but they were much more comfortable than I'd expected.

!

That is a creepy picture of the castle:eek:

Funny how we enjoy the embarassment of our teenage children. I just love to do this to my DS.
We have never eaten there, but might try to sneek that in. It sounds like fun!!

Hey, I loved the pics. in this installment. Caitlin is too cute not opening her mouth to eat. Nothing like a swift kick to motivate the kids, I'm sure I will employ this tactic during our trip more than once:rotfl: We have never seen wishes and it is #1 on my to do list. Is there a place you could recommend for us to stand? We will have a rented battering ram, I mean stroller:rotfl2: The buses back to the hotel are they very frightening after the park closes?:scared1: We have also never stayed on site before. My boys are 7&5 and I'm afraid they will freak about waiting!:confused3 Maybe we should take our time leaving! We have an ADR at Kona @ the POLY should we go on the beach and watch Wishes? Would we miss much? Thanks for all your help!:thumbsup2 Loving this report!:flower3:

dwaddict: You DEFINITELY need to take your DS to Whispering Canyon. Caitlin doesn't have a shy bone in her body and gets a kick out of being teased in front of a crowd. When I was her age, I'd have just melted under the table in mortification. :rotfl: But, hey, they brought that on themselves.

dddisrunner:
I am probably not the best person to ask where to stand since my first viewing of Wishes was from the bus area (no crowds, though, but no music, either!) and my second viewing was way too far down from the castle. I've heard from other DIS'ers that Casey's corner is a great place to watch from. You'll have to let me know how that goes--I was willing to give up a better viewing spot in order to catch Captain Jack Sparrow. I have priorities. :rotfl2:

I believe you can watch Wishes from the Poly (although I've never done it) but you won't hear the music which I think is a very important part of the show. I'd try watching from inside and then find something else to do while everyone rushes out from the park. I understand that lines for the rides are really low at that time (that's what Caitlin and Jenn did.)

You leave so soon! I hope everything is going better and you have a great trip! I'm very excited for you (and wish I was coming along!)

Hi Pal! Great report so far...we are doing ok here, just a ton of rain!! Flooding everywhere and streets are closed. Crazy!

Glad to hear you're doing okay, pal! I was thinking about you last night when I was watching the news. Keep dry!

Man your quick! Thanks for the advice about Wishes! Things are going much better around here! I can't believe how fast the trip is coming up! :scared: Ha, you can come with us if you want! Having a family meeting tonight to write down exactly what are must do's for each person in each park! OT but, do you know how to add a link at the bottom of your signature. I have a pre TR but I wanted to put the link in to make it easier?:confused3 Thanks! Keep up the great reporting!!!!:thumbsup2

Sure, I do! Go to the first page, first post of your pre-trip report. Highlight the web address and copy it. Then, go to your signature, and paste the web address in there. It should show up as a link once you change your signature. And now I'm going to look for your report. :)

dddisrunner: You're welcome! 7 more days!

BlndeShorte1::welcome: and Welcome to the DIS! I'm very honored to be your first post.

Five years old is a great age to go to WDW. Caitlin went on her very first trip to Disneyland at 5 and it was SO much fun for both of us. I hope you have a great trip! It's coming up soon; you must be so excited.

Yay! Love the new chapter!! Whispering Canyon looks like lots of fun! And great photos of Wishes, too! :)

Also, I'm amazed that Caitlin and Jen's hair stays so straight in that Florida humidity! I blow-dried, then straightened mine, and as soon as I left the hotel room, my hair turned into a frizz-ball! :confused3

DF and I both chuckled about Caitlin refusing to eat her pasta from Dusty! I don't know if this is mean to say or not, but we both imagined Caitlin to be the sweet little quiet friend, and Jen to be the naughty one! Heeee! :rolleyes1

(Not that I'm saying Caitlin is naughty for not eating her pasta!! Oh, you know what I mean!!! I'll go now!!)

I've only eaten at WCC once, but it was so much fun. We had Bobby the Kid who was the greatest, but I don't think he's there any more.

You don't eat ribs?? :scared1: I'm adding this to the "Thornton Wilder" list of things Amy and I do not agree on! RIBS are mmm,mmm good (I know you thought that was Campbell's soup, but the ad guy thought of that slogan while eating a half-slab ::yes:: )

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: It's not mean to say but I just had to pick myself up off the floor about Caitlin being the sweet, quiet one because I was laughing so hard. Looks can be deceiving, my friend! Caitlin is, and always has been, an instigator. And she WAS naughty for not eating her pasta--that's why I kicked her. :lmao:

Ah, Caitlin and Jen and their straight hair--that is part of the primping process and one reason it took them both so long to get ready. They live in New Mexico and while Caitlin's lived in Michigan for awhile and experienced some pretty serious humidity, it was a new one for Jen. :rotfl: I spent a lot of time taking care of hair straighteners and blow dryers. Caitlin was blessed with straighter hair than mine but she has been known to wear it curly from time to time but not often because she looks just like me when she does. Every time they'd come back to the room, the straightening would commence again. When you're 16, you're more willing to invest a good chunk of your life to maintaining your hair. Me, not so much. :rotfl2:

Glad you liked it, AussieAngel! Thanks for reading along!

I've only eaten at WCC once, but it was so much fun. We had Bobby the Kid who was the greatest, but I don't think he's there any more.

I believe Bobby the Kid is still there--I saw him on our last visit. We had him as a server once but he was training a new server and was very subdued. Although he DID pick out my dessert for me (because I was taking too long deciding) and did a fine job, I must say!

:rotfl2: Nope, I don't like ribs. And just so you can freak out all at once, I don't like steak, pot roast, or pizza, either. :rotfl: My mother will tell you that she raised me right and she had NOTHING to do with my weirdness.

I'm going to make a button to wear on my next trip that says:

"NO FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY means PUT THE CAMERA DOWN!" I may add a pair of angry eyes to emphasize my point.

You are a genius! WHY, oh, WHY didn't I think of this.

I do have some pictures to share later of some of the dark rides but Alex helped me find a setting on my fancy new camera that doesn't require a flash. So, no eyeballs were shocked to take those pictures!

Steak and pot roast I can live with, but PIZZA??? PIZZA???

Isn't that like anti-American or something??

PIZZA??

:sad2:

I make a mean pot roast...it's so yummy the way I do it...

You both will have to come over and try it... :flower3:

NO PIZZA? my goodness! Pizza is one of the food groups in my house!:rotfl2:

MM, I love pot roast, can I come too?;)

If anyone annoys me with their camera(this is one of my pet peeves) maybe I can get one of my DS to bump into them and screw up there pics.:rolleyes1you cna't yell at a kid right!;)

Tuesday, March 27 – Chapter 10 – The Best Day EVER!

Ah, I’ve been looking forward to this installment. We had so much fun this day.

My original plan was to go to Epcot today with lunch at Le Cellier. Since I still hadn’t had much chance to do anything at the MK, we decided we’d go there instead. I cancelled our reservation—Caitlin was the one who had really wanted to go there and that was mainly for the Chocolate Moose. She was fine with skipping it this time around.

The girls slept in (aren’t you shocked??) Alex and I each had a yummy croissant sandwich from Roaring Forks, caught the boat, and made it to the MK right at 9:00. There were a lot of people in line but they all dispersed by the time we got up Main Street. Ahh…room to breathe.

Alex and I had decided to spend the day doing the non-headliners and hopefully avoiding some of the crowds. I made the mistake of telling Alex that I didn’t want to spend this trip all commando and he immediately burst into laughter thinking of the Friends meaning of going commando. I quickly learned to quit saying this to him. :rotfl2:

We did decide to check out Space Mountain seeing as how it was so early and all. Big mistake—rest of the park was pretty much empty but Space Mountain already had a huge line. Oh, well, I could live without Space Mountain this trip.

Peter Pan is a ride I just adore and haven’t done in several years due to long lines. First thing in the morning, all the families were waiting for Dumbo and Peter Pan was a walk on. Woo hoo! The day was looking up.

17858wdw89-med.jpg

I remember riding Peter Pan with Caitlin when she was a little girl and how fascinated she was by the lights of London. It’s still magical even without a little one but I do miss that little girl.

Then we went on the Haunted Mansion. Another walk on. I told you this was the best day ever! As we entered the stretching room, the cutest little girl whispered loudly to her father, “Daddy, I’m scared.” We all began to reassure her (there were only about 10 of us in the room) and I told her the lights would go off in a minute but they’d come back on again shortly. This adorable little girl from another family marched over to the first little girl and said, “Here. I’ll hold your hand.” It was the sweetest thing I’d ever seen. I think they ended up riding in the Doom Buggies together. It was obvious they didn’t know each other (introductions were made on the way to the Doom Buggies) and I was just so touched by the second little girl. Caitlin is 16 and I still have to BEG her to go on the Haunted Mansion with me so I understand scared little girls. And big ones, too.

Okay, two great rides down—now what should we do? I wanted to catch Buzz Lightyear before everyone tired of Space Mountain. I must say—my best move EVER. Except for whatever ride the Cinderella Suite winners were in.

Here's where the magic happened!

17858wdw90-med.jpg

As we were getting in line, a family was sort of straggling in at the same time. We let them all in front of us. As we were waiting, I saw a famous Dream Team member coming along the line and counting. She stopped with the little boy from the family we’d let in front of us and began pointing excitedly to him.

Now I have to admit my bad thoughts. I am thinking, “Oh, MAN, I let those people go in front of us and now they’ve won Cinderella Castle! WHY do I have to be so nice all the time?” I felt so let down. Here I’d been being nice and this is how I was rewarded for it?

As we rounded the corner, the little boy got up to the Dream Team member. She pulled out a box and said, “Dream Fast Passes for Everyone!” WOO HOO!!! I was SO excited. Alex wanted an explanation. “Wait a minute, what’s this, what do we do with it?” Then I hissed at him, “Just TAKE it!”

I was so excited that we had actually won a DREAM! I hadn’t seen the Dream Team anywhere up until now and I really never thought we’d win anyway. I spent the entire ride explaining it to Alex and scrutinizing my lovely, lovely Dream Fastpass. I think I only ended up with about 10,000 points on Buzz because I was too distracted.

I’m sorry but I’m having trouble with posting pictures that are turned longways. So, you’ll just have to look at it sideways. Isn’t it purty?

17858wdw91-med.jpg

Once we were off the ride, I immediately sent Cait a text message talking about the early bird getting the Dream Fast Pass.

That got her attention. She actually woke up and called me almost immediately.

Cait: You won WHAT?
Me: A dream Fastpass. For the Magic Kingdom. There’s one for Buzz Lightyear, the Jungle Cruise, Mickey’s Philharmagic, Space Mountain, Splash Mountain, BTMRR, Stitch,Winnie the Pooh, and Peter Pan.
Cait: Why didn’t you win the stay in the castle?
Me: Jeez, you’re greedy. They made my whole day with just THIS.

Alex and I had already decided to use the Fast Pass for some of the nerdier rides and let the girls take them to use on the mountains. I told Cait that and she squealed so loudly that she woke Jen up.

Cait: Thank you, Mommy!

Those Fastpasses were burning a hole in my pocket so we rushed over to Winnie the Pooh, bypassing the line using our super cool new toy. Alex put his in his pocket but I wore mine proudly—showing off, basically. Nanner, nanner, nanner.

We bounced along with Tigger, Pooh, and the gang. Another ride I hadn’t done in years. So fun!

Our touring plan had now changed. We could do the more popular rides later and try some of the smaller rides now.

Swiss Family Treehouse is one of my mother’s fondest memories of DL and WDW. It’s one of her favorites. Since she refuses to go back, Alex and I went through and took some pictures for her so she could walk down memory lane (or the memory tree) whenever she’d like. So enjoy the little tour:

17858wdw94-med.jpg

I like this one. I was trying to make my mom dizzy. She's nervous about heights. Which makes it a bit weird that she loves this so much!

17858wdw95-med.jpg

17858wdw96-med.jpg

I love the polka that plays—I have it on cd.

The park was getting busy but we didn’t care. We had DREAM FASTPASSES! Are you tired of me yet?

As we strolled toward Frontierland, I saw a crowd gathering in front of PoTC. It was Johnny Depp! I mean, Captain Jack Sparrow! The Pirate Tutorial was hysterical. There was one little boy who’d had a fancy hair cut with red gel in his spiked hair. They referred to him as Bloody Head Pete. “That’s your pirate name, mate.”

These guys did a fantastic job.

17858wdw98-med.jpg

17858wdw97-med.jpg

17858wdw99-med.jpg

After the tutorial (aarr, matey!), we continued on to Splash Mountain to get a Fast Pass. A regular one. I was saving the dream Splash Mountain pass for Cait and Jen.

I was feeling peckish so we decided to go to Columbia Harbor House and relax in the cool A/C while we waited for our fast pass time to roll around.

I had a sandwich with humus and broccoli slaw and a bowl of clam chowder. It was really delicious. Alex had some kind of ham sandwich thingy with chips. He ate it all so I’m guessing it was good!
