Sorry for the mistake! Thats what happens when you are on the computer late at night!!

Amy, glad to hear your mom is doing so well!!

Good news:cheer2: my mom is coming home today! Thank god! Her cumidin level is high enough for her not to be at risk for developing any more clots right now. She still has to be monitored pretty closely but all in all GREAT NEWS!:cool1:

I forgot to mention that I too think Alex is quite the distinguished looking gentlemen!:cool2: I am so happy to know that I will have an installment per day until I leave! You know I will hold you to it!popcorn::

OK gotta go start figuring out the clothes situation for the boys! Keep um coming:surfweb:

Another fun segment. Merci! I'm glad you didn't stoop to getting a Fast Pass for Maelstrom. Did you happen to see Thor and Vidar anywhere? ;)

Great Illuminations photos!

dwaddict: Mal & MickeysMommy have been fighting over Alex for a few years now. :lmao: If he only knew, he'd be embarassed to death.

Thanks for the good wishes!

dddisrunner: That is excellent news! :cheer2: I'm very happy to hear your mom is feeling better. And a new chapter is coming up soon. ish. If I can ever download the pics.

Kay: Sadly, I did not see Thor and Vidar anywhere. They are probably Alex's long lost relatives. He is extraordinarily fond of brownies, now that I think about it!

Glad you liked the photos. Bunch more coming up in the next installment.

Chapter 6 – Sunday, 3/25 – Animals and Crowds

The plan was to go to Animal Kingdom for EMH. I woke up early-ish and Alex woke up about the same time. We took showers and I tried to wake the girls.

Me: Cait, do you want to go to the Animal Kingdom?
Cait: Aaarrggghh…
Me: Are you sure?
Cait: Snargle, gargle..rassafrass…

As my 3 yo grand-niece told me at Christmas, “Caitlin and I speak gibberish.”

Yep, you do. I took that as a no because I’m fairly fluent in gibberish.

We headed down toward the buses. I should have realized that I hadn’t looked at my handy dandy itinerary closely when there was no one else waiting for the bus. I thought we were just really, really lucky. Duh.

As we got on the bus, the bus driver told us, “You two are smart. Hardly anyone gets up early on Sunday. When I’m not working on Sundays, I always go to one of the parks really early.”

Hey, we were smart! Well, me, not so much. We drove to the YC/BC and the Boardwalk and no one else got on the bus. That’s when I realized I’d probably made a mistake. I’d made a list for each day with all the park hours, EMH’s, fireworks times, and our ADR’s. Each morning, I’d tear off that day’s listing and put it in the little pocket on my camera case. As I unfolded that day’s listing, I groaned.

Me: Alex, you’re going to kill me.
Alex: I doubt that.
Me: There is no EMH at the AK this morning.
Alex: Oh, well. We’ll be first in line.

See why I love him? I was SO glad I hadn’t insisted that the girls get up.

We arrived and sauntered up to the turnstyles. We weren’t first in line. We were second behind a big family. Whoopee. A whole hour of waiting in line.

I was sad I hadn’t made a Breakfastasaurus reservation. Those folks were allowed right in. Rats.

So, we stood in line and were bored for an hour. And I talked badly about myself under my breath. "I cannot BELIEVE you made me get up at the crack of the dawn for THIS!"

17858wdw35-med.jpg

The talking palm tree entertained the crowd for awhile. Once we were allowed into the park, we followed everybody to the rope and waited another 15 minutes.

After standing still so long, we were a bit stiff but managed to speed walk along with everyone else to Expedition Everest. I’d done this on the last trip without Alex and he had two must-do’s for this trip. One was EE, the other was Soarin’.

I thought about getting FP’s for a second ride but we were kind of pulled right into the line and walked right on. It was great. An exhilarating way to start the day. I have no pictures of EE because of the mass of people and also because I have a zillion pictures from previous trips—both the construction and the finished project. Sorry about that. Alex loved it, too, so after looking at the now 40 minute standby line, we decided to get FP’s.

Oh. My. Gosh. I then waited in a FIFTEEN MINUTE line just to get FP’s. At that point, I was ready to get the heck out of Asia! With the FP’s tucked away, we decided to try the Safari.

One thing I love about the AK is all the little tucked away gems. Here’s some stuff we saw on our walk over to Africa. And here’s where I make up for not taking any pictures of EE.

17858wdw36-med.jpg

Alex was fascinated with this little building. And when he saw my pictures, he said, "No, take a picture of the little windows at the top." So here are the little windows at the top. This is a man who once watched The History of the Stick on the History Channel so remember, he's easily amused. :rotfl:

17858wdw40-med.jpg

As we arrived at Kilimanjaro Safaris, the line was deceptively not long. However, we still ended up with a 20 minute wait because the jeeps just kept driving past empty. We ended up with a great guide who was worth the wait, though. It seems like most other times we’ve been, we ended up with someone brand new or someone really bored. This guy gave us a lot of information and actually slowed down when animals were around and went quickly through the empty portions.

I took this as we entered the Safari line:

17858wdw42-med.jpg

My pictures are always the pits from the Safari but this time, our lovely driver went very slowly by a giraffe and her baby that were strolling along right next to the vehicle. So, you are privileged to see my two best pictures EVER from the Safari.

17858wdw44-med.jpg

Okay, after two weeks with no food, I was starving. As usual. I didn’t mention our breakfast in the hotel room this morning but we had donuts. Again. I love vacation—I never eat donuts at home. But the donut didn’t last very long so we headed to the Tusker House.

We were practically the only people in the place. That was nice. However, it took about 15 minutes for our order to be put on the tray. It was weird—there were about 6 people behind the counter all just standing there. It was like a big game of chicken. Who would be the one to break and put the food on the tray? Just as I was ready to jump over the counter and get it myself, a woman walked in from the back and that seemed to break the stalemate.

We both had scrambled eggs, bacon, fried potatoes, and toast. It was very tasty. I mean, not lick my plate clean but it’d hold me until later. We sat in a fairly deserted corner but I was able to overhear the wails of an overstimulated little boy and his frustrated parents. Apparently, he was having too much fun to think about eating. The mother seemed mortified, if it hadn’t meant getting up and walking all the way across the restaurant (I was kind of tired and needed to conserve my strength), I’d have walked over and told the mom not to be embarrassed on my account. Caitlin still does this. Well, not the wailing but definitely the not eating. Whining is involved. In fact, she’ll do it tonight at dinner. (Even though I didn’t know that at the time!)

Refueled, I was ready to head out again. We went back to Expedition Everest. Once again, you’ll have to imagine it. Imagine it with a LOT of people. We used the fast pass and it still took about 20 minutes to get on the ride. Which was much longer than we’d waited the first time without the fast pass. And, once again, WHOOPPPPEEEE! We loved it. But I hate crowds so once we were off the ride, I tried to find somewhere less congested.

We decided to try the Maharajah Jungle Trek. This was so beautiful. Even the theming on the pathways was beautiful. I took a BUNCH of pictures so enjoy your walk! You will notice that there are no pictures of bats or birds. They both creep me out and we walked through those sections at warp speed.

I think I enjoyed these murals even more than the animals. Mainly because I didn't have to fight to look at the murals.

17858wdw53-med.jpg

After having people invade my personal space to see the tigers over my shoulder, I decided that I had had enough. We held hands so as not to lose each other. Yikes, it was as bad as Christmas. We waded through the crowd and broke free as we headed toward the bus stop. I spread my arms and twirled around—so delighted to have some space. Really, I did that. You can laugh—Alex did.

We get to the bus stop and my phone rings. The girls are finally up. And guess what? They’re on their way to meet us at the AK. AARRGGHHH… I explained how crowded it was and that Alex and I were headed back to the Dolphin for a nap. The girls decided they’d skip AK and head to the MK. I reminded Cait about our dinner reservation at the Biergarten and gave her a specific time to be back at the hotel.

And Alex and I returned to the Dolphin for another nap. Ah…I love vacation.

Next up: Chapter 7: The Biergarten

Once again, separated at birth. Although I don't mind the bats at AK so much as there is a nice glass wall between me and them. But otherwise, ooky.

Hmmm. A "nap" while the girls are at MK. :smooth: ;)

I'll have to look at all the pics on my home monitor; yesterday you posted the Norway pic and when I looked at it here I thought, "Why is she posting a pic of a big black blur?" Then I looked at it at home and thought, "Ah-Ha!"

:rotfl2: I did LOOK at the bats. Quickly. Just to make sure they still icked me out. And they did. The birds? Just kept my head down and walked through quickly! :lmao: Cait's the same way. She has a hard time in Epcot with all the seagulls.

:rotfl: Oh, sure, try to turn my nice little TR into a no nooky at WDW debate. I've seen those threads before, my friend, and I'm keeping mum on this subject. But, for the record, we really did take a nap. :rotfl2: A SLEEPING nap.

Cough...cough...A nap...:love2: :dance3: ...cough...cough

Still waiting to hear more about moi :teeth:

:lmao: You two are incorrigible!

Oh, yeah, I didn't look in any of the AK stores for MM's mug that day. I'm bad. ;) But it was crowded. (That's me whining.)

OK, I read the ptr and tr today. Great job. After reading so many of these trip reports I am really beginning thank my lucky stars that I have a DS instead of DD. DH can fight with him instead of me :rotfl: Can't wait to hear more

jcc0621::welcome: You deserve some sort of award for reading this all in one shot. ;) I'm glad you like it.

You know, I'm not sure which is worse--teenage girls or boys--since I have no comparison. My sister assures me that girls are worse as teenagers but boys are harder once they grow up. :confused3 There is a whole lotta drama with girls, though.

Going to Disney: Hiya, Rhonda! I'm glad you like the pictures. I have a hard time hanging on to cameras--my last digital flat out disappeared from my house. We have searched high and low and cannot find it anywhere. Cait got a bit offended when I kept asking her, "Are you SURE you didn't accidentally take it?" and finally told me in exasperation, "Look, Mom, I wouldn't steal your camera, okay?" :rotfl:

So, Alex got me another new one for Christmas this year. It's a Casio Exilim 10.1--it has a lot of fancy features that I really enjoyed. I have some cool pictures of the castle during Wishes coming up soon.

Thanks for reading all!

Yay, another instalment!! Great photos!! :cool1:

You're braver than me with the birds - I refused to go on either treks at AK, because one had bats, and the other had birds! Ew! Anything with wings freaks me out majorly. Especially moths. Even if I had to walk through the bird enclosure quickly, I would have passed out from the fear that a bird might accidentally fly into me and touch me with it's wings!! :scared1:

Guess what - today I saw a girl with long legs, little shorts, and brown hair, and I said to DF, "Hey, she looks like that pretty daughter from that trip report!" And he knew who I meant!! She really did look like Caitlin! So there you go! She has a twin here in Australia! :thumbsup2

OMG! That's so funny - my very first digital dissapeared, too! June, 2005, actually. It turned up last month! And we've moved since I lost it - thank heavens it moved with us. It had fallen out of my purse (near as I can tell) into a Build-a-Bear box. No one noticed the BAB box when we were frantically looking for the camera! Thank goodness Meg filled the box with her junk (never emptying it out) when we moved. She finally went through what was in the box and came out of her room, looking totally bewildered, and holding the camera!

I am loving your report! The pics are great! I have 16 year-old daughter, and she speaks the same language as your daughter. I have totally given up on her getting up for EMH. It's like poking a hibernating bear with a pointy stick -- dangerous and not a whole lot of fun for anyone. She just gets up at her leisure and meets us around lunchtime.
I can't wait to read more!:thumbsup2

Chapter 7: The Biergarten

Well, yikes, I’ve dreaded this part of the trip report because this was our worst evening all week. I’ll get it over with and then on to more fun.

The girls arrived in plenty of time for a little bit of fun in Epcot before dinner. We headed over and as we arrived, Caitlin announced that Epcot was just so BORING. I then reminded her that she had made a special request for me to make an ADR at the Biergarten, one of her favorite restaurants.

She perked right up as we entered the U.K. and realized that the World Showcase Players would be performing shortly. This is always one of our very favorites. On a prior trip, Caitlin and I arranged to catch just about every show one day! I staked out a piece of curb and everyone else dispersed to get drinks.

The Players were fabulous, as always. We saw King Arthur and the Holy Grail—“grail, grail, grail, HAH!” One of the Players was an adorable Japanese girl. She was freaking hysterical!

After the show, the girls wanted to try Test Track. I must say, I really can’t stand Test Track—you wait and wait forever and then the ride breaks down. I was SO happy to give it a miss.

Alex and I strolled over to Soarin’ but there was a sign out front saying Fast Passes were gone for the day and I didn’t even want to check to see how long the wait would be. I talked him into The Living Seas and the new Nemo ride. Mine, mine, mine!

17858wdw57-med.jpg

There was no line at all and I thought the ride itself was pretty cute. I don’t think Alex has ever seen Finding Nemo so I had to explain some stuff to him.

Me: Nemo is lost. And Albert Brooks and Ellen Degeneres have to find him.
Alex: Oh. Ok.

I liked it but I was glad I hadn’t waited in line for it. You know what I mean. It was a fun way to waste some time but not worth a long wait. Sort of like Figment.

After a quick peek to say hello to the manatees, we had to scoot over to Germany. We ended up never getting back to this pavilion so I totally missed Crush this time around. Another reason to go back!

Alex and I found a shady spot while we waited for the girls to arrive.

The view from our shady spot:

17858wdw58-med.jpg

17858wdw59-med.jpg

I told them to get there by 5:30 and our reservations were for 5:45. They actually arrived at 5:25. I checked us in at 5:30 and after a bit of a wait, we were then taken to our table. We met our table mates—oddly enough, they live about 30 miles away from us. Come on, everybody: “It’s a small world after all!” No, I didn’t sing to them. But I thought about it.

I got a nice German beer which made me happy. I used to live in Germany back when I was first married to my ex. I loved living there and two reasons were the beer and the food. I lived right near a little biergarten that looked remarkably like the one at Epcot. Well, it didn’t have quite as many tables and it was actually outside but, still, pretty close.

Cait has always loved the food in Germany, too. Especially spatzle. So, imagine my surprise when I got back to the table and she and Jen were already back and had…one bowl of macaroni and cheese each. And some pretzel bread. That was it.

I asked Cait where her spatzle was and she told me she couldn’t find it. I went back and got her a bowl of it. Guess where it was? Right next to the mac-n-cheese. I asked about schnitzel, I asked about sausages, I asked about sauer kraut. Nope, Cait told me she didn’t like that anymore. Oh, sheesh, apparently it was contrary night. Now I was annoyed because I was spending a fortune per person for mac-n-cheese.

I, on the other hand, filled my plate right up. One of my favorite German foods is wurst salat. It’s a cold salad with a bologna type meat, tomatos, and onions in a vinegar/sugar sauce. I used to order it all the time when I lived there and I had a German friend who used to make it for me when I lived in New Mexico. Now, Epcot was my only chance because I’m too lazy to make it for myself.

I also had schnitzel and sauer kraut, and potatoes and sausages and…well, you get the picture. I ate a lot. So did Alex.

Cait’s always loved the show in Germany, too, but she was being a pill tonight. They wolfed down their mac-n-cheese and then Cait said, “Okay, can we go now?” WTH??

Me: No, you can’t go. We’re having dinner together. I haven’t seen you all day.
Cait: But you let us go at lunch yesterday.
Me: You were falling asleep at the table.

It went downhill from there. I got so ticked off at one point that I got up and went to the table to calm down. I didn’t want my tablemates telling everyone in Michigan that I got into a screaming fight with my child at dinner.

When I came back, Cait apologized and said she realized that we hadn’t seen them all day. We had fun then because the show had started and we saw some adorable kids dancing. They were so funny and many resembled the Charlie Brown kids in the Christmas Special that I re-enact for Caitlin every holiday season. Really. I do all the dances. She’ll rewind it so I can do each dance. She’ll invite her friends over to watch me do it. I have quite a following in the teen set.

17858wdw60-med.jpg

Okay, so dinner ended on a good note. Alex and I took a wander through the Japan pavilion. That is one cool department store there! Here's a statue I found worthy of a photo:

And a last view of France from our Friend Ship:

17858wdw62-med.jpg

17858wdw63-med.jpg

As we left, the girls wanted to go to the MK for EMH. I told them they could not stay out late because we were moving to the Wilderness Lodge in the morning and I wanted to do that early. Again, I forgot that I was dealing with demons and genies and did not specify an exact time. Duh. We ended up getting into a screaming match on the telephone later that night—if you were in the room next to me at the Dolphin, I apologize. I’m not usually a yeller. Old yeller. Sorry, couldn’t help myself. The girls finally arrived home about 12:50 a.m. Wow, that is early. Early in the MORNING!

I was upset because I hadn’t really seen Caitlin since Christmas and I missed her. We’ve been on trips with her friends before and I usually allow them quite a bit of alone time because when I’m LIVING with Caitlin, I don’t mind. Because, you know, I’d see her when we were back home. This is the first trip we’ve taken since the new living arrangements so Cait was obviously expecting the regular rules whereas I was thinking about how much I wanted to spend time with her. We talked and sorted it out. Cait doesn't really understand why I feel it necessary to wait up until she gets home. Apparently, her dad just sets his alarm and if she doesn't wake him up before it goes off, she's in trouble. I, on the other hand, cannot sleep until I know she's home. Or at the hotel, as the case may be. She agreed to cheerfully spend more time with us and I agreed to cheerfully allow them some time doing their own thing.

That was our one blowout. I guess it was good to get it out of the way early in the trip. I promise the rest of the chapters are WAY more upbeat. And, hey, she didn't push me down any stairs so that was good!

Boy, am I glad this chapter is out of the way!

Up Next: Chapter 8 – Moving Day!

Aussie Angel: So, Caitlin has a twin down under? That's so sweet that you're finding her look-alike from this TR. Maybe we'll need to arrange a trip to try to find her. ;)

I'm glad you enjoyed the pictures. I could tolerate the birds since I'd realized my stern look not only works on dogs but also birds. They really stayed away from me in the aviary. Thank heavens. Tippi Hedren has nothing on me, believe me! I'd run screaming out of there if they got too close. That Flights of Wonder show is my worst nightmare, though, you'd never catch me there!

tiggerbell: Jaime, what IS it with the digital cameras? It was seriously the weirdest thing ever. Alex is sure someone broke in the house and stole it--leaving the laptops and tv's. ;) I'm pretty sure it's going to turn up somewhere really strange. I bet I put it somewhere for "safekeeping."

LtlTree: Welcome! I'm so glad you're enjoying it!

I love the hibernating bear analogy. :rotfl: It is SO true. Cait has never been a morning person and she's gotten worse as she's gotten older. Mainly because I can no longer just pick her up and dress her. Which I did many times when she was little. :rotfl2:

:grouphug: We moms of 16 yo girls need to stick together!

Thanks for reading!

This made me :rotfl: :rotfl: for some unknown reason. Possibly because I can imagine similar conversations with DH.

I have this exact same picture...from like 40 trips. Everytime I see it I think "Oh, Cool!" and take a pic of it, forgetting I have 39 others exactly like it at home. :confused3

I won't quote any of the teen angst, because I don't want to make you relive it. But here's a post-drama :grouphug: I'm glad you got that out of the way!!
