Ok, my daughter is about to buy a new to her 08 honda civic. They gave us this big spiele on nitrogen vs air in tires. Now it is 379 to do it, supposed to give u better mileage and less wear on tires and this amount also covers 5 years, so if she blows a tire, they replace it. I have googled and read, but what I have read is 50/50 on whether it is worth the initial cost...wondering of any of you have any experience with the nitrogen or know anything you can tell us! Can't decide if it is money worth her spending or not...thanks. :thumbsup2

Not for 379.00
not to go any further but you can buy new tires for a honda civic for a few dollars more if that installed brand name.
better gas mileage :lmao: take the spare tire out as well less weight better mileage probably will save you about the same.
also most tires (unless you buy cheap no name ones) come with a 5 year warrenty 3 years full free 3-5 prorated as I am sure this is as well
lastly all brand name tires will tell that you need to replace your tires after 10 years max including your spare even if you never drive the car.

There's been some controversy on this... some say it's okay to add regular air to nitrogen, and some say it's not. According to the CostCo by my shop, you are NOT supposed to add regular air because it could cause air bubbles in the rubber and cause the tire to blow out. Also, some places will void their warranty on the tires for adding regular air to nitrogen tires. For that reason alone, I wouldn't pay for the nitrogen air. What happens if she's no where near a place carrying nitrogen and has a flat tire? I would stick with good ol' regular air.

I just replaced the tires on my 97' Cavalier and they asked did I want nitrogen. No way, I want to be able to put regular air in it when I need to. I thought it was silly

The only advantage I can see for nitrogen over normal compressed air might be how dry it is (how little water content it has) but seriously doubt they are actually putting in "pure" nitrogen down to fractions of a percent.

I'll still fill my tires with regular old air - I wear my tires out faster than any potential adverse reaction with oxygen might cause them to deteriorate. And hey, what is on the OUTSIDE of the tire anyways? Um...air. Not much you can do about that, right?

I'd rather have my tires properly inflated and not worry so much about what goes in them other than to make sure they are not low.

Oh, and amandamims, I'd LOOOOVE to hear the Costco employee explain the air bubble statement! :lmao:

And as far as voiding your warranty, how would they know what you put in the tire? I mean, they can tell you to put in nitrogen, but would they be able to tell if you just used compressed air? I seriously doubt it.

Our Costco said it was fine to refill with air. Air is 78% nitrogen anyway. ;)

I wouldn't pay extra for it. Costco fills their tires with nitrogen, but they are still the cheapest around for tires.

thanks so much for all the replies....we chose not to get the nitrogen! :)

I may have come to this thread a little too late, but my advice is..............
