Does anyone have one? I am thinking of getting one. What all do I need to buy with it? I see it on bestbuy for $249....but toysrus also has it for 249 with $10 off. They have two different things offered on toysrus but I am not sure what I need!

Do they come with one crontroller or two? Any games?

They are great fun for the whole family. We have one and love it! It depends on the package you buy as to what comes with it. Check carefully. You will probably need to buy more controllers and games. Some packages come with Wii Sports (great fun) and some with other games. It is also sold just the Wii game itself. Look around and see what you want out of the system and go from there. You will not be disappointed.:thumbsup2

Thanks! I think I will start surfing the web for one. Maybe check out amazon.com. I am happy just getting the controllers and console and picking out my own games

No matter where you get it, the Wii will ALWAYS have the following:

Wii console
1 Remote Controller
1 Nunchuk Controller
Sensor Bar
Power Cord
Standard composite cable
Stand
Wii Sports (game software)

That's enough for 1 person to play at a time.

You need to look around to see who has the best package available. This package would include extra's in addition to what comes with the system.

You will definitely need at least one more remote controller and one more nunchuk controller. The nunchuk controller cannot be used by itself. It plugs into the remote controller for games (the remote controller can be used by itself for some games). This will allow two people to play head-to-head.

You should also look into buying a recharging stand for the controllers. The remote controllers use batteries, but they can go quick depending on use. This is what I use and haven't had any issues with charging:
http://www.amazon.com/Wii-Charge-St...JNF2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1250253455&sr=8-1
Just leave the controllers on the stand when done playing and they'll be ready for use the next time. The nunchuk does not use batteries by itself, but piggy-backs off the regular remote controller.

After that, it's up to you what else you buy. We have a game called Samba De Amigo which is like guitar hero but with marraca's. We bought these inexpensive maracas to go with it that you plug the remotes into. Don't need the maracas, but adds something to the experience (and the game is surprisingly fun).

We have had the Wii for over a year and LOVE it!!!!!
It's super fun and very interactive :thumbsup2

It does only come with one controller so you will need to buy more, depending on how many players you are going to have. We bought 3 more controllers and nunchucks with our that put the total purchase at almost $450.00 with tax. The controller and nunchuck were quite an expensive investment as it was $60.00 a set...but as a previous poster said, it's well worth it!

As for games there are so many to chose from. My favorite is Harvest Moon and for fun family games the Mario games are fun, esp. Mario Party 8 and Mario Kart and Super Smash Brothers Brawl is fun too but there is fighting in it.

Anyway, have fun ~ I know you will ;)

Wow $450?? I surely don't want to go that high. I will maybe look into some other alternatives.

Are there any other game consoles that you recommend? Playstations, etc?

We have had our Wii for just over a year. Love it! That said, we paid $249 for the console, which had everything as described above. We also bought Wii Play at the same time, which was $50, I believe, but it came with another Wii-mote. That was all we needed to start with.

Head over here. http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1287560

There is a great list of everything you are going to need and everything you aren't going to need with reviews of games and lots of other interesting facts about the Wii.

Are you getting it for x-mas ? Rumor is that it may go down in price before then since the rumor is that a new version is coming out with new/dfferent/more enhancements.

Also please don't listen to any new Wii's coming out and them dropping the price on the current one. Nintendo at this point is just printing money! Every system they sell they make money. Nintendo it self has said that it has no plans to improve on the Wii until it has run its course. They just released the New DSi and didn't reduce the price of the current DSlite because it is still selling like hot cakes. If you want up to date Nintendo news the best site around is www.nintendowiifanboy.com . Enjoy Wiiing!

there are no alternatives if you mean other consoles. You do not need to invest $450 to get started and like the previous poster said rumors are swirling about a new version and if that comes to be the price will drop for the now current Wii.

While $450 sounds high to you other systems will be just as high or higher when you add extra contollers etc.

We have had our Wii since the day it was released, waited in line for 14 hours to get one, nintendo just replaced it for us cost $89 for a new system and 1 year warranty, our system quit reading the disks. I think Nintendo CS is second to none!

I disagree. But that is just my opinion.

Nintendo’s annual financial reports speak volumes. The company is currently spending over $370 million on research and development, a steep hike from $103 million in 2006 and a modest $34 million in 2003.

do not think that is on game development.

Check out a bundle - they have a good selection on Walmart.com

Wii play. Definitely get this game. The games are a good basic place to start playing and it comes with an extra controller.

Since most games only allow two players at a time you can start with two controllers and two nunchucks and work your way into investing in the other controllers/nunchucks later. Also, check out Gamestop you can pick up used controllers there for less money.

I bought a bundle from Walmart for christmas which included the console set with wii sports, my choice of 5 games - there were 20 to pick from (valued at $49.99/ea) plus a nunchuck and a controller - and I saved about $50 over the cost of buying the items individually. One of my game choices was wii play so I ended up with three controllers - which since I have three kids was perfect - we invested in the third nunchuck about 6 months later and it wasn't a problem because as I said most games only allow two players anyway. I split the cost of the bundle with my DM - she gave the games to the kids and Santa gave them the console.

You definitely want to invest in either the remote recharger or rechargeable batteries. I went with rechargeable batteries. A battery charger costs about $11 and the batteries cost about $10 per 4 pack at Target or Walmart. I have lots of extra rechargeable batteries and use them for all my electronics so in the end it's more cost effective, plus because I don't leave the charger plugged in all the time I save money on electricity.

Just remember that in 2006 the Wii was just coming out and in 2003 the Gamecube was failing. So they didn't have any money. They are working on the new Vitality sensor for the Wii, New Super Mario Bros, Super Mario Galaxy 2, 2 new Zelda games, Wii Fit Plus and many other games that aren't even on the radar yet. Also games have very high production costs. The new grand theft auto cost over 40 million dollars to produce. In my opinion I just don't see Nintendo shooting themselves in the foot to bring out a new Wii system until people stop buying the current one.

I have finally talked DH into getting one "for the kids" :lmao: for Christmas. In reality, I have wanted one forever!! What are some must-have games for ages 4-6?

time will tell. Seem to remember them putting out the DS lite less than 2 years after releasing the DS.

I got our wii last Christmas wnem my kids were 4 and 6. :) It has been a great gift. My son was 4 and it is a bit harder for a 6 yar old to get at first. he can now do most things but someone has to play near by sometimes for some reading.

Mario Kart, Super Mario Galaxy and indiana jones lego have been a hit in our house. We have littlest pet shop but the kids rarely play that. Way too slow. We also have Outdoor Challenge. The beginning levels are great for this age and it is nice that as they become more coordinated they can play harder levels.

It will be a hit at Christmas! Have fun

We have a wii and LOVE IT!!! its great we can all play it!!! Lots of FUN!!!! WE just have a ball with it... our daughter is 5 and loves it...

I saw in one of my couponing forums that in Sunday's (08/16) Target add that they will be $249 and you get a $20 gift card back with purchase. You can buy the console. Then in a seperate transaction get the other controller things and throw the $20 gift card towards it.

My 4yr old DD wants one of these so badly. Almost all the relatives have one but I just can't seem to break down and get one. I have never been into video games. What do you all think about the Wii Fit aspect?

I bought mine off ebay when they first came out. It comes with one controller and if you by Wii Sports you get a second controller. Some of our favorites are Animal Crossing and Wii Sports.

in the past when any retailer starts to offer incentives to purchase any Nintendo product that product is getting ready for an upgrade, just an observation.
