Nikki and Tom take on F&W and MNSSHP-Take 2! LINK TO TR pg. 55

Nikki,
You're not the only one that gets choked up. I completely do. All the time. I think my husband thinks I'm nuts. Kind of like the first time we went to Disney with the kids. We walked down main street and there was a parade coming through. When I saw my son's eyes light up, I got all choked up, started hugging him really hard, and of course, starting crying. I often think, people probably thought I was nuts.

Oh and I remember that wonderful pink castle and have very similar pictures. I was on my senior class trip to FL (Is that what alll people in NJ do? It's another thing that I think growing up in NJ is a right of passage-the senior trip to FL). Can't wait to see more flashback photos. They're great.

I like the new campaign too. :)

I have a frame of WDW's 10 year anniversary (not sure why though, I went for the first time in 83, not 81), so I think it's cool that I'm going back the year of the 40th anniversary. :goovibes But yeah, just hope the castle is not pink! :rotfl:

I have pictures from my first trip in 1982 and there is one picture of a parade with a giant 10 on a float so maybe they kept the 10th anniversary stuff up for a year or two!

can't wait to hear more.

P.S. per your NYC pics and stuff (from your earlier thread) thank you for helping me get my act together for my upcoming trip to the Big Apple - Apri 12th 2012.:)

Thanks for joining!

So glad so many people feel the same! When we start bringing children to WDW, I know I'm going to be a mess

I actually went on two WDW trips with high school. Both of them were with the choir. It was actually the reason I joined but it ended up being a big part of my high school experience anyone! The choir went every other year so I got to go when I was a sophmore and a senior. My senior trip was actually the last one my high school took. They just stopped going! I was sooooo lucky to be able to go!

Okay, please tell me I'm not the only one...

Every time the new Disney commercials come on, with the home videos...I totally choke up!! Every. Single. Time. Even though I've seen those commercials a hundred times by now. And I always stop whatever I'm doing and have to watch. The new one with the Christmas surprise just kills me! When the kids first look all shocked, then they start jumping up and down and the mom starts jumping up and down with them. Ugh! Just kills me!! I've said it before but I feel like this campaign is soooo right up my alley! Before this campaign ever started, I would often spend hours looking through youtube videos of people surprising their kids with Disney trips. I guess a lot of people did that, which is probably why Disney decided on this for their campaign.

Subscribing!!
My mom surprised the whole family with a trip on Xmas morning (we are going in Nov 2011) by putting together a photo album of pictures of past trips! It was an awesome moment and I think of it every time I see that commercial!!!
:cloud9:

I remember the pink castle cake, I was there for that, I loved it! :lovestruc I do feel bad for all the people who had to see it like that for the first time, but I thought it was interesting!

I'm excited that I will be there for the 40th anniversary too, but I don't want it to get too crowded either! I'll be arriving on October 1, I hope it's not too crazy! I love all the new merchandise!:thumbsup2

I don't remember hating the pink castle cake at the time. I was much too cool in '96 and '97 to be concerned with such things! :lmao: "Whatever!"

At least if anything crazy IS going on, it'll be your first day!

Have you guys seen the video of the new castle show, Magic, Memories and You? I just watched the video and it was completely amazing!!! I started clapping at one point and when it was over, I said, "Oh I LOVE that!" Tom's response? "Did you really? I couldn't tell by the weeping!!" A complete mess! I can't hear those 7 notes of When You Wish Upon a Star without getting choked up. So the whole time I'm tearing and sniffling a little but at the end? Oh I just lost it!! Tom won't watch the video because he wants to see it for the first time when we go.

So here it is, in case you missed it on the front page. I suggest watching it in full screen.

Nikki,
Oh it is very cute and does make me teary eyed! I wasn't exactly sure at first if I would like the whole concept of pictures on the castle, but now that I see what it is, I like it.

Oh and a question for you...will you remind of who made your cute 4th of July T-shirts last summer? I really want to see if I can get some for the kids for our trip in June.

Oh I got it from Etsy.com. Let me see if I can find the seller and I'll pm you the link. She was great to work with! I'm such a control freak and even though I know nothing about tie-dying, I had lots of notes and she followed them all and communication was great! :thumbsup2

Love it!! Thanks for sharing the link - I missed that somehow.

DF showed me the video from the Dis last night and its looks really good, love how they timed everything and the way they projected it on the castle. Is amazing what they can do with technology these days :)

I really like the new campaign too. I haven't seen too many of the commercials, but what I have seen, I love them - and get choked up every time too! It's just so sweet.

I started to watch a video of the new Castle projections show a few days ago, but quickly turned it off because of how AWESOME it was and I want to be surprised with the rest. Seriously amazing! They did a beautiful job, I cannot wait to see it in person!!!

How cool that you will be there for the 40th. MK will probably be PACKED that day, but it will be so fun! I hope they do something great....and do not paint the castle pink (or any other color) or decorate it like a cake. :rotfl:

Btw, I saw Pocky at our neighborhood grocery store the other day and thought of you instantly! :goodvibes (we have oooooooodles of random stuff not in English in our grocery store! Gotta love Queens!)

:thumbsup2 Oh BTW, I sent you VHS tapes back today! Let me know when you get them. Sorry it took so long!

It really is amazing how the effects look so real.

Haha, yes, I'm sure MK will be out of control crowded on the 40th but if they are doing something special, I will be there!! I have had students come in with Yan-Yans for snack and I"m like, :scared1: Where did you get that?? Asian food store, of course! :rotfl:

Ok, so not only is the weekend we are going to WDW the first weekend of Food and Wine AND Disney World's actual 40th anniversary, it is also the (new last year) Wine and Dine Half-Marathon.

Now I'm what you might consider a "seasonal runner." Maybe even a "seasonal jogger!" All winter long, I sit on my bottom with the remote in one hand, coffee in another, on the couch with a nice warm blanket. But come April/May, I start jogging in a park near my house that has a beautiful 2-mile trail. And I do that until school starts in September and the cycle starts all over again!

It only takes me about a week to be able to go the whole 2 miles without stopping and I gradually get faster and if I'm really feeling good, I might even go around twice.

So last year, I decided to do my first 5k. Well, considering I had been in WDW the week before, very sick a few days before and the fact that it was one of the hottest days of the summer, I did NOT do well in this "race." But I was glad to say I did it.

Well as much as I would love to run the Wine and Dine half-marathon (it's in Epcot AND it's at night!! How cool is that?!) there is no way I'd ever be able to run that much. I'd still be going by opening the next morning! BUT there is something called the Mickey's Halloween Family 5K!!!

It's only a 4-day trip and there's already so much to do, I'm kind of worried about taking more time away to do this rave. But looking at last year's information, the race is on Saturday and starts at 7am. If that's still the case, I could be finished and ready for the parks at opening, or maybe a little after.

So what do you guys think?? Should I do it? I'd have to keep up my running a month into the school year. Even if I'm not up to running the whole way, I could walk. But to say I ran a race in Disney would be so cool!! Registration starts February 14th.

Did you know you don't ''have' to run the entire race? You can actually walk it if it's more comfortable for you....I walked the entire Princess Half Marathon in March...Also, there are training plans out there that are intervals, like walk 3 min/run 2 min (for example).

Oh cool! So you're saying maybe I should even register for the 1/2 marathon instead of the 5K?? I would LOVE to be in Epcot late at night. And it said it commences with a little food and wine party, or something. Hmmmm.....

Hmm, actually the problem with doing the race at night is I'll be in the parks all day.....eating, most likely! I'll be stuffed and exhausted. I think if I do anything, the 5k will be the best option. :thumbsup2

Hi Nikki!

That's great you want to do a run while at WDW this year! It's definitely on my 'to do' list to do the half marathon ... one year... I exercise regularly but have never done a long race before.. but if there's any place I'd do it.. it would be WDW! :wizard:

Last year, the F&W half marathon could be run as a relay, so... does Tom fancy running 6.5 miles for you?! :rolleyes1
It sounded like the after-party in World Showcase got very very over-crowded last year, but I'm sure Disney will have learnt from last year & it'll be an even better event going forward :thumbsup2

Nikki, Good for you. I wish that I had the motivation. A friend of mine from work does all the Disney marathons and loves it. I hope that you enjoy it, even if it's just to get to see EPCOT in a different way. :thumbsup2

I admire anyone who can run a marathon, no matter how little or many KM it is. I am not a runner at all (can't even run longer than 1-2 minutes ever), so good for you, and good luck on it. :thumbsup2

That sure will be a busy 4 days in Disney!

Haha, no Tom would NOT be interested in running 6.5 miles for me!! I would really love to do the Epcot at night, after party deal but it just won't work. Aside from the fact that I'll be up all day eating and most likely drinking (!), it would take me all night to finish and for such a short trip, I can't afford to sleep in. The 5K really seems like the way to go.

Thanks! It's really not about motivation for me...I just like to do different things every time I go to Disney and I think this would be so cool to say I participated in it!

Thanks Mel. When I start in the Spring, I can't go for more than a few minutes either. Seriously, if you tried it, you'll see it only take a few days of going to build up some stamina!
