Nick Hotel help

We have planned a very last minute trip for next week.

We are staying at the Nick hotel. Does anyone have any advice about room location to request. We have a two bedroom suite with bunk beds reserved. We stayed at this hotel 6 years ago before it was a Nick hotel.

Is it hard to see/find the characters? Any experience with the character meal.

How do the games work?

We stayed at the Nick hotel for 7 days last July. We're hoping to go for 2 nights this July.

We requested a pool view last year. It's a $20.00 upgrade but I thought it was worth it. We were on the lagoon pool side. That's the pool with the giant water tower. I had read that people thought it was noisy on the pool view rooms, but we were never bothered by any noise. My two boys (5 & 8 at the time) did not want to go to the oasis pool because it does not have a shallow end.

We stayed in the two bed room with the twin beds. We had bunk beds at AKL the year prior. I don't think I slept a wink worrying that one of the kids would fall out of the top bunk.

We saw all of the characters at the character breakfast. We only occasionally saw them walking around the mall. My kids love the autograph/picture thing but weren't really into it at Nick Hotel.

We didn't participate in any games. I encouraged my 5 y/o to play on the first day. It was a "hot potato" type game. The losers got a rag dipped in ice water rung out over their head. My 5 y/o was the first one "out". He was mortified and that was the end of that. But, basically, they pick kids from the pool to participate at the pool side games.

We stayed there last July for two nights before heading over to Disney. We asked for a "quiet room" because the kids still come back to take naps. I don't remember what bldg we were in but it was on the lagoon pool side but not facing the pool. Instead it faced a man made lagoon.

THe kids loved the pool activities. They really kept the kids going. At night we went to see the "Nick shows". You have to sign up in the lobby for tickets. Even though they are free they are limited. We did the character breakfast and that's when they saw the characters. My kids had a ball there. They had a bunk bed "Rugrats" room and thought it was neat. Housekeeping was really good. Hope you have a great time.

We just got back from the Nick Hotel last week. We had a great time - the kids really loved it!

As far as room locations go... Most of the buildings surround either the Lagoon Pool (the larger pool) or the Oasis Pool. We were in Building 12, with a Polside room, from which we could view about a 1/3 of the Lagoon Pool. We were set back from the pool a bit - directly below our room was poolside basketball court, two hot tubs, the pool table, and a toddler splash park. We did want to be near the big pool, so in general it was a good location. The pool is heated, and there are kids in there from the second it opens until it closes at night (11 PM!). Same with the basketball court - we were on the fourth floor and could hear the balls bouncing first thing in the morning. It really wasn't too bad, but obviously it would have been worse on a lower floor.

Near the other side of the Lagoon Pool there are more hot tubs and a mini golf course, which probably would have been a little quieter.

You do NOT want a room on the first floor facing the pool, as you will have a lot of traffic going past your room all the time.

I don't know how the hotel was layed out the last time you were there, but in the center of all the buildings is the foot court/restaurants. From our building we had to walk pretty far to get anything to eat.

The Oasis Pool is less crowded, and probably quieter. There is a sand play area and another splash park by this pool.

After I read some info about the Nick Hotel on this board, I called back and asked for a note to be added to our reservation saying that we would prefer a room near the Lagoon Pool with a Danny Phantom theme. We got both, and I did not have to pay the extra $20 for a guaranteed view of the pool.

They run the games ever couple of hours at both of the pools. The kids love them! The crank up the music to start to rev the kids up. The choose kids from the pool to just out and participate - sometimes they get slimed or get a pie in the face. It's a riot!

I read on these boards that the character breakfast is not worth it, cause you can see the same characters for free between 1-3 in the food court area. Sorry to say that the food at the morning buffet where "kids eat free" is adequate at best. (Adults still pay $9.95 each.) (I'm remembering soggy cold pancakes, mealy hash browns, egg beater eggs, generic cereal.) You may want to consider the character breakfast for the simple fact that you can hopefully get some hot food, but it is a little pricey. ($17 adult, $10 kid)

I am surprising my youngest DD with a stay at the Nick hotel in June! I can't wait to see the look on her face when she sees the hotel!!! The pool games sound like fun!!! I'm so excited!!! (Hope I can keep the secret!!)

We stayed on the 5th floor with a lagoon pool view. We had no problem with the noise. We did not do the characted b-fast, we did the kids eat free. I thought it was fine. Did not enjoy the lunch buffet though. Characters are vary available from 1-3. Ina 15 min span we saw Sponge and Patrick, Dora, and another character that I can't remember. You will really enjoy this hotel.

We returned last week from a two night stay at Nick. I thought two days was perfect. I only left the hotel to go to Walmart (5 minutes away) to get food for breakfast and lunch (and water/snacks) - I highly recommend that. I requested a room near the Oasis pool which is not as crowded as the Lagoon pool and I thought it would be less noisy. We ended up getting upgraded to a Sponge Bob and pool view room without paying extra. Not sure why but they did overhear my daughter telling Squidward that she loved SB. It was nice to have a pool view - I could just walk out and see what my kids were doing. The Oasis pool also was not loud. The slides there are a bit warmer because they feed directly into the pool. The slides at the Lagoon pool do not go into the pool and were very cold when we were there (late March). We did spend an afternoon at the Lagoon pool but spent the rest of the time at the Oasis pool. This place is huge and it is a long walk between the two (the mall is in the middle.)

You will get a daily script that will tell you when the games (and other activities) are going to be held. We alternated between the pools based on the game times and all of my kids got to participate in at least one show (one got to do so twice.) They are very simple games but the kids love them. The ones at the Lagoon pool did seem a bit better, but they were crazier because there is more people there. The blaring music will tell you they are ready to start and the kids gather along the side (in the pool.) My kids also liked the night time shows as well - we went to two. You do have to sign up early (at guest services in the mall area) - we did so the night before.

We were going to do the character breakfast but then I cancelled due to the bad reviews. I was glad I did because we saw plenty of characters in the mall between 1 and 2 p.m (they may be there later but this is when we happened to be there). So make sure you take your camera with you when you are cutting through the mall to the other pool (as we were doing.) We got pictures with SB twice, Patrick, and Cosmos. There were others (Dora, etc.) that my kids weren't interested in. The mall area isn't bad during the day but is crazy at night (same goes for the arcade.)

We had a great time. I would never stay here though if I was going to the parks. The daytime was the best time for all of the activities except of course the night time shows.
