NFL is nuts

Why do so many football players get into legal issues?

You don't hear about nearly as many incidents like these in the 3 other major sports. (they do occur, but nearly as often as the NFL), I'd bet the NFL has more players involved in legal issues than MLB, NBA and NHL combined.

You don't hear about nearly as many incidents like these in the 3 other major sports. (they do occur, but nearly as often as the NFL), I'd bet the NFL has more players involved in legal issues than MLB, NBA and NHL combined.

There are 750 MLB players (25 per team x 30 teams). There are 360 NBA players (12 per team x 30 teams). There are 600 NHL players (20 per team x 30). There are 1696 NFL players (53 per team x 32 teams). So there are more NFL players than there are MLB, NBA, and NFL players combined to begin with.

So I guess you really have to look at per capita.

The NFL is either lying back in July or now. There are some angry NFL reporters mad right now like Adam Shefter who were led to believe they saw the video. They were told they had the same stuff as law enforcement had.

Anyways the Ravens have released Rice

I thought the NFL and law enforcement only saw the video in the hallway after the elevator. And Ray Rice and his GF both said that she started it and she hit her head falling and that's what knocked her out - which is sort of what happened. :roll eyes: I always suspected that was a bit of truth-stretching.

This is from Peter King from back in July.

There is one other thing I did not write or refer to, and that is the other videotape the NFL and some Ravens officials have seen, from the security camera inside the elevator at the time of the physical altercation between Rice and his fiancée. I have heard reports of what is on the video, but because I could not confirm them and because of the sensitivity of the case, I never speculated on the video in my writing, because I don’t think it is fair in an incendiary case like this one to use something I cannot confirm with more than one person. I cannot say any more, because I did not see the tape. I saw only the damning tape of Rice pulling his unconscious fiancée out of the elevator.

To be fair Peter King is sort of backing away from this. He now says his source said he assumed they saw it. Of course when he wrote the the above the NFL or Ravens never contacted him and said it was wrong.

Here is Peter King's statement today

Earlier this summer a source I trusted told me he assumed the NFL had seen the damaging video that was released by TMZ on Monday morning of Rice slugging his then-fiancée, Janay Palmer, in an Atlantic City elevator. The source said league officials had to have seen it. This source has been impeccable, and I believed the information. So I wrote that the league had seen the tape. I should have called the NFL for a comment, a lapse in reporting on my part. The league says it has not seen the tape, and I cannot refute that with certainty. No one from the league has ever knocked down my report to me, and so I was surprised to see the claim today that league officials have not seen the tape.

I hope when this story is fully vetted, we all get the truth and nothing but the truth

Ok. Everyone is upset the NFL didn't terminate his contract earlier. Why aren't people upset with his then fiancé who went on to marry him. Aren't her actions telling young girls that it's okay to go ahead and marry the jerk who just knocked you out?! If he will throw a punch before the wedding, what's he going to do after? Personally, I feel she just set back woman's abuse issues several years. By marrying him, she has accepted him and his abuse while the rest of the world wants him punished for his horrifying actions. Before you say she loved him and all that other junk, just remember, she still had an out. She could have said " I don't".

ummm...

600+750+360 = 1710

53 x 32 = 1696

1710 > 1696

but it's not even close, baseball and hockey players are almost never arrested for violent crime at all (mostly DUI, which is still a stupid thing to do). It's definitely not a common occurrence like in the NFL.

I admit, I don't know the exact numbers, and it may be the NFL is over-reported on, but I can't remember the last time an NHL player was accused of beating his wife, or raping a girl.

Ray Rice is a disgusting low life, but I wonder. . . would everyone support the mailman or the guy selling insurance losing his job because he hit his wife?

Should all jobs (and that is what the NFL is, a job) cross over into an employee's personal life?

Domestic abuse is an odd and toxic thing. Those if us who've never dealt with it probably would never understand it but I had a young lady here say she married her abuser and only got the courage to leave him when their military careers placed them 8000 miles apart. Incomprehensible to me. She's an intelligent young lady. She sees it clearly now, but at the time...

You just never know.

This is also my thought as well... work and home issue should be separated. If i get a DUI, should i lose my job over it?

TRUE CONTRAST to yesterday's celebration honoring Derek Jeter, one of the BEST BASEBALL PLAYERS, TRUE GENTLEMAN, AND NICE GUY!

Derek, a TRUE ROLE MODEL for youth! More athletes should "follow in your footsteps"! :cool1:
Derek, you will be MISSED! :thumbsup2
His SMILE is CONTAGIOUS!:yay:

As he said at the end of the ceremony, "we have a game to play"...

Rice will not be MISSED!:dance3:

You are right that NFL players due seem to be more violent, it's probably the nature of the sport.

have you seen hockey? It's a 60 minutes of speed and violence.

Jeter a role model?? The same guy who beds a different one night stand each night, then sends them home, alone, with a swag bag of signed memorabilia, sometimes forgetting he's already slept with particular people more than once and giving them the same stuff??

Sounds like a great role model to me....

If Jeter had the exact same stats, and accomplishments, but played for the Arizona Diamondbacks, there would not be this love in for him... I can't stand until he's gone, this whole Yankees being Gods has dragged on for two seasons now....

When you are in a position where you are looked up to or have authority over a group of people, you will lose your job over things like this. Public companies cannot afford the backlash if they say they are going to keep someone who has done something like this.

You think a teacher or a politician could keep their job after domestic abuse charges? How has Chris Brown's reputation been affected by his actions? It's different than if John Q. Public does it. Nobody knows them.

Pro Basketball – 13 Arrests/Citations/Charges

Football: 4%
Basketball: 3.6%
Baseball: 1.2%
Hockey: .3%

So yes, football is worst. Though basketball is almost up there. The baseball and hockey numbers are interesting, though.

No you shouldn't. But if there is video of your arrest and it goes viral there is a good chance you will.

It's my understanding that NFL players sign a code of conduct contract that covers issues both on and off the field.

Hey Luvs,
Every year at my job you have to sign an "ethics" clause. EVERY year.
It covers diverse topics but basically it says that by virtue of your employment you reflect the company in some capacity.

You can't be a child pornagraher and say "well that was after work".
Now, we have some thing call eap (employee assistance program) so you can go to them and say I have X problem (drug, violence, alcohol) and I need help.

They will definitely get you a lot of help, but you better believe if you are arrested for domestic violence or child abuse you are going to be in a bit of a jam with the company.

I've seen guys lose their jobs for having affairs. I've seen guys lose their jobs for pornography. I've seen guys lose their jobs for animal cruelty convictions.

We are a public company, big wigs take their reputation seriously.

Heck, we had a CEO that was looked at funny cause his kid got busted importing drugs back from some where in latin America.

I think it's a byproduct of living in an age where nothing is "private" anymore. before you could be an alcoholic and people were stunned when they found out. same with a child abusers. I found out maybe 30 years after the fact that a little girl I went to elementary school had a dad who was an abuser. when I found out she said, "eliza, didn't you ever notice I never had friends over" and I really didn't.
Not today, today no matter what you do, some one sees and post. especially in a public place
