Next Food Network Star ~ Official 2009 Summer Thread

I thought Melissa looked pregnant last night too.

I will watch Melissa's show. She has a lot of good info. and new recipes. Being from the south, I've already made/eaten most of Paula's recipes or I could look in my extensive collecton of church cookbooks and find it. I still love Paula!:goodvibes

Melissa was easily my second choice, but I never pick the winner. LOL. I am excited for her show, but I did prefer Jeffrey. Blah.

I think they made the decision to give Adam a show before the finale... just based on comments Bob made during the season last year. I ♥ed Adam.

I loved Adam too. Couldn't stand Aaron and still can't. I watched ONE episode of his show to give it a shot. It stunk and I've never gone back. I wish they'd stop looking for people with loopy personalities and find me someone calm, cool, and collected who has REAL food chops....like Jeffrey.

I really hope that they end up giving him a show because I have no interest in Melissa's hashed out harried mommy/let me give you a million shortcuts concept that we've seen a hundred times (Robin Miller, Rachel Ray, Sandra Lee). Its funny that with all of her "inventions" I haven't heard an original idea from her yet. I actually liked Melissa as a person, I just don't feel like she has anything to offer any of the FN viewers who are more than a nightly family cook. Jeffrey's sandwich made me drool! I ordered Harissa online last night as soon as his pilot was shown and can't WAIT to make that sandwich!!

I hope they give Jeffrey a show like they gave Adam. I cannot stomach Melissa, she sort of sells herself like a hawker on the boardwalk. Jeffrey is sooooo cool, I'd much rather watch him.

Add her to the group of people on Food Network I'd rather stab my eyes out than watch... Giada, the NEELYs, now MELISSA....UGH! :scared:

exactly.... they already have a number of 'quick/easy meal' shows out there.... but not many who bring back some exotic/foreign ingredient and make something "normal" with it.... (FYI, for anyone interested, apparently the new show is called "Ten dollar dinners", and will start on 8/9 at 11:30cst)....

I'm definately watching her show now! It's going to be a Dinner for 4 under $10! show. :cool1:

Huh? I thought it was going to be called "Kitchen Surival Guide".... :confused3

So, I just tried her "4 step" process. I used pork for my protein (boneless cutlets dredged in flour, rosemary, salt, pepper and garlic powder), green onions for my aromatic, and a little chicken broth and apple cider for my liquid. IT WAS FABULOUS! The cider gave the pork a tiny bit of sweetness, and the meat was tender and juicy. I braised some cabbage and onions for the side dish and warmed up some leftover rice pilaf. I think next time I will add a bit of chopped apples in with the aromatics.

I can't wait to try this again with another combination! And I have already set my DVR to her new show.

^^ Me either :headache:

What I WANT is the recipe for that egg thingy she made near the beginning of the season. And the potato torte. And whatever it was she made yesterday in the muffin pans.

Weird.

Sandra Lee is doing this now and it's annoying. I know people don't like her, but I loved Semi-Homemade Cooking. I don't care about saving twenty cents per meal. Blah.

Waaaah. I just want Jeffrey.
*sniffle*

Oh well. I have a new mantra.

At least it isn't Debbie.

Oh dear, another one the network changes for some reason :confused3

I am going to watch the show becasue I like Melissa. I hope that the tips come out but I was looking for the kind of food she was cooking during the challenges. That pastry! The veggies and how to make them. I am sick of RR and stopped watching her shows. The same suggestions are all rehashed into another chili and make me want to toss a glass at the TV. I would rather chew glass than listen to Paula one more time. I stopped caring if Maaaaaakul loves her sour cream, butter and Krispy Kreme donut infuse bread pudding. And Giada makes my flesh crawl. I thought, finally a woman who has helpful hints and whose cooking does not involve chopped meat, packages and cans from teh processed foods aisle and whose recipes can be made in my kitchen. And now it has been morphed into cooking for $10 a Day.....:sad2:

And seriously, if I have to watch one more cook take a bite and try to talk and chew all the while swooning over the dish I am going to :crazy2:

I think Jeffery will get a show later on.

$10 dollar dinners? Not what I expected either. I really thought that Jeffrey was going to win after seeing his wonderful pilot. Oh wel, I will watch Melissa's first show to see what it's all about. She is going to be really busy being a "Food Network Star" and trying to take care of her 4, 3 and 1 1/2 year old twins. I am exhausted just thinking about it!

Huh? I thought it was going to be called "Kitchen Surival Guide".... :confused3

The name of the show depends on who the ultimate director/producer is - and it wasn't going to be Alton Brown! I hope for Melissa's sake that she gets Gordon Elliott - he's a very talented man.

Not impressed. Several times she looked like Rachael Ray, and the premise isn't unique enough to hold my interest for another week.

I wasn't impressed either. To me she seemed to come across a little nervous. I'll keep watching for a while to see if she gets better, but I think they made a mistake. Jeffrey would have been more entertaining to watch.

That's too bad. I was disappointed.

OT-What's with Brian Boitano getting a show?

OT-What's with Brian Boitano getting a show?
I was wondering that myself. So they just picked some random figure skater and gave him a cooking show. Um, ok... :confused3

I am sorry to hear that. I have not seen it yet and I want to like it. Maybe she will relax and get better.

I wonder about Brian Boitano too. What's is up with assorted celebrities getting shows??????? Jeff Corwin and weird foods. I watched it once and that was it. Bad spin off on Bizarre Foods and he is no Chef so he cannot even discuss the culinary asppects of the dishes...just one more personalit sensationalizing something. It's FoodTv for goodness sakes. At least give us Chefs!

:confused3 Yeah what's up with Brian?

I watched Melissa's new show and I thought for a first show it was pretty good. And she made the POTATO TART!! WOOHOO
But no way no how is that meal under $10. She uses Guyere cheese in the tart and that's about $8 alone! It's got potatos(cheap) and heavy cream (not cheap around $3 for the amount you need) thyme, and bacon- along with the pastry. I don't see how that's $10:confused3 and she made a salad and granita?
