Next DVC resort to be in Tokyo

This is interesting rumour news to me and DBF - we've already decided that our honeymoon would be 3 weeks in Japan - split between Disney, other parts of Japan and visiting friends out there. DVC over there would be AWESOME!!

Let's see...

A DVC at Tokyo Disneyland, a new park in Shanghai, and an expansion of Hong Kong Disneyland.
I can see another Asia trip in my future.

I still believe that HHI and VB would sell better today than when they opened. I know that the resale prices are low...but that is partly due to the maintenance fees.

It may be me and my history loving family, but...a DC timeshare seems like it could be pretty popular to me.
HH & VB have always been lower, VB may be in part due to fees but I don't think HH is at all. I think if anything, VB & HH would sell less well retail than they did when they came on board. It will be interesting to see how HI sells (a less seasonal resort) and what approaches DVD changes in the sales methods there.

We would buy DVC in Tokyo. We love the Tokyo Disney Resort and "having" to go back every third year would be just fine with us.

This is not meant to be snarky but an honest question:

What would you suggest they do?

Hmm, let's see. I read on here about a problem with DCL and using points for trips. I'm sure I don't understand the issue but why isn't DVC stepping up and fighting for what's in the best issue the members. I see Disney Visa card holders getting perks like special meet and greets with characters. Why aren't DVC members geting the same perks (BTW being Canadian I don't have the option of a Disney card). I still think a once a week meet for fireworks would go a long way for members to feel special. Rope off an area for members only, provide some popcorn and soda. The cost would be minimal and yet members would feel like they were special. That is just a few ideas. I'm sure I don't understand the politics of working for us, the members, while having Disney write your cheque. I'm sure that the two sometimes have different interests and agendas. I just think perhaps it's time Disney stopped with the rapid expansion and starting looking at added benefits for the current members. Those added benefits could then be used as sales tool.

Oooh... that would be awesome!
Currently it takes 56+ points for 1 night at the cheapest TDR hotel. Which is CRAZY!
A DVC hotel would be absolutely wonderful. It'll give us a reason to go there every so many years... I hope hope hope it's true.

My DVC wish would be DCL, TDR, then DLP... If this rumor is right then one out of 3 isn't bad... :)

Was at the National Harbor in March 2010 and there was a sign there indicating that DVC would be building a resort there.

Did you take a picture?

I'm aware of Disney signs at National Harbor, but not of any Disney Vacation Club sign.

I'm among the people who believe that if Disney goes ahead with their National Harbor resort, it will include DVC villas. However, I would be very surprised if there is already a DVC sign, considering that Disney has not announced anything beyond the acquisition of the property.

I may be in the minority but enough expansion already. Let's concentrate on the DVC resorts that exist now and improve them. How many resorts are they selling right now? 4?? 5?? 6??
DVC is still a fairly small player in the game, size and number of resorts is not their problem. Their problems stem more from the false impression that many had not realizing DVC is just a nice timeshare. There are certainly things they can improve and I hope they do, but their still among the top as far as timeshares go.

I think it just welcomes Disney, not DVC.

Why would you think that? When VB came out DVC was still in its relative infancy and there was no agressive advertising.
Now, these boards are packed with rave reviews of the resort and everytime I go there it is at capacity.

I'm putting words in Dean's mouth, but neither of those resorts have the same "home court advantage" that the WDW resorts have. In particular, the HHI resort has a poor location relative to other resorts on the island that are just as nice (or, arguably, nicer), with a much better location, but less expensive to buy and to own.

While both VB and HH came out fairly early, DVC was fairly well established by then. Basically both are nice timeshares in areas where there are other timeshares as nice or nicer, esp for HH. The gap between resales and these resorts has held steady to widened over the years. As Brian alludes to, DVC's main claim to fame is the Disney park location/connection and neither of these resorts embody that connection. As for aggressive advertising, I guess that depends on your definition, both had an on site sales center and DVC probably advertised them more in print media than they have anything else until the last couple of years. I guess we'll never know for sure but there's plenty of info to confirm that neither sell well currently even at a reduced price and no evidence to the contrary. Both resorts took MUCH longer to sell than predictions while the other concurrent resorts sold well including BWV, VWL, BCV and even some overlap I believe with SSR. Frankly, I don't think HI will sell well either unless DVC adopts more traditional timeshares sales methods.

With VB I think it does OK becasue people put it into a split vaction. Using both VB and WDW to make a nice change and to get something diffenert. I agree in HHI and HI will have more problems. I may stay sometime at HI beacuse I do like going there every five years. I wish it would be ready earrly next year befcasue we are going in 2011. Oh will maybe 2016.
