Something is going on at all star movies. People have been evacuated from the food court and surrounding areas. Reports are people are being told to stay in their rooms or leave the area. There is a large police presence at the scene. Some say police have been saying code 100 which indicates police are using cell phones to communicate rather than radios. It sounds like it may be a suspicious package or something along those lines.

Looks like they already gave an all clear.

Most likely someone doing a prank

As much as I like the improvements Disney is making in terms of shopping, part of me wishes that they would create some more of their own stores. Why is there no Disney media store where I could go to buy any of the soundtracks, movies, novels?

It would be nice if it was a little more unique than a mall. I agree about the music. I would love to be able to buy theme park background music, for instance. BTW, have you checked out Disney Music Emporium online? They have a lot of stuff, but it's not brick & mortar.

Which is interesting because wasn't that area slated for Nintendo.

I never thought Nintendo would go into Toon Lagoon. The area is massive, and I have had a suspicion for a while that the Nintendo license will be one attraction at best, and the rest primarily parade presence, costumed characters, a shop, and one or two play areas. I'd put money down that they make a mario kart ride and that's the end of it. I've heard a lot of speculation that the Zelda/Link license might get used, but again, I'm betting it is character only and not an attraction.

If you look at the footprint of the KidZone at USF, the Curious George building is fairly large. And over half of it is wasted on water playzone crap. Combined with the water features in the American Tale area, and you have a business mentality that assumed people would only be visiting in the warm months. Anyways, the Curious George area is large enough for a small kart track. Assuming they demolish the Barney sound stage, then they have more then enough room for that ride. Then it's just a matter of re-skinning/rebuilding the American Tale playground into a Disney one, replacing the spongebob gift shop with a Nintendo one, and bam - instant nintendoland, just *don't* add water.

Yes all clear given word is it was a phoned in threat.

Darn. I was hoping Mr. "I could make a meth lab in my room in the time it takes you to...." was back.

Oh. You mean amazon?

;)

Seriously though, Disney already has hundreds of unique gift shops across the 4 parks. And the Disney Store at Disney Springs is supposedly the catch-all emporium of Disney goodness, with enough stuff ~not~ present that it encourages folks to go into the parks as well (or use the Shop parks app at least).

The problem with opening unique stores is they then have to fill it with unique product. A store that just sells Disney movies and soundtracks sounds neat on paper, but when you factor in their "vault", it limits the available media they would be able to sell. Then factor in that digital media is huge these days and it is actually quite uncommon for folks to buy physicals discs... and you have yet another reason not to earmark a store plot. Then there is the fact they want people to sign up for their movie club if they are going to buy discs. On the other hand, they can rent it out to some vendor who pays them an arm and a leg to be in the middle of a huge tourist destination and that's guaranteed money. A lot more then they can count on from a physical media store.

I don't disagree with your sentiment that more unique stores would be nice. I just think Disney is already stretched thin trying to come up with enough unique merch to fill the stores it already has. There is much more money to be found in renting out space than there is hocking more mouse ears.
