A short winter closing is pretty much standard for Splash right?

Just pretty much every year :)

There's not much use for splash in January...

But this is an El Niño year...and that usually results in fantastic "non winters" on the east coast

Christmas...margaritaville style

I don't understand why they don't do something like a "silent disco". Give everyone headphones that would allow you to hear the music with the show. If you prefer your own they broadcast the music over a short-range that anyone could pick up on their bluetooth enabled headset. This way, everyone can set their own volume and you don't disturb the animals.

That's a nice idea but a logistical nightmare. Can you IMAGINE the number of people who would need help connecting their own device and then complain if it doesn't work? Also - I think there is a major "ick-factor" to any kind of communal headphones.

I agree...

First...people don't want to walk around in the heat using headsets unless they absolutely have to...

Second...not everyone is so tech dependent, loving. Remember that still many "grandpas and grandmas" - baby boomers - use only what they absolutely have to. They don't really want to be told to "get with it" and Disney loves their stock portfolios too much to mess with them and that's gonna be the case for at least another decade.

Third...sound engineering is a big part of the design of the show...the projection to accentuate the high points and the low interludes...

Why give that up? Illuminations would be nothing without the soundtrack...at least now that you've cut probably 50% of the bursts out over the years.

i love what im seeing in regards to ROL
DAK had about 15 minutes worth of information presented and this was part of it

Anything to take pressure off the MK/Wishes is going to be good for the guests. I do still worry about the animals, though.

Not certain why. I don't think it's fireworks, and most of the animals will have retired for the night. Given how well they've run Animal Kingdom so far, I don't doubt that the animals will be well considered with any and all evening activities.

agree
DAK has to help with MK simply because however how many people stay or go to DAK at night it will be more than the zero that's there right now LOL

Correct no fireworks but they have said fire will be part of the show.

I think the overall numbers for tables in wonderland usage is small...

Which means while it's probably a drop in the bucket...in their mind they might say "they'll come anyway"...which will be the legacy of the Iger era in wdw...and just kill it anyway.
I see the "logic" in this thought process, just hoping it won't prevail. Part of me still believes there are pockets of "Walt" in the world and the little things might get fought for by their champions in corporate...

I rode Splash on a chilly (for Florida) December day once and wished it had been closed. That was not a fun ride.

I normally go in December and I've never gotten wet enough on Splash for me to care what the temperature was outside. I just assumed they change the settings to keep people drying in the cooler months. But I was also there last May and didn't get very wet. Maybe I'm just lucky. Or maybe it's because I dno't have hair and so I don't count my head getting wet.

If the fire is similar to what they have at the World of Color show at California Adventure, it shouldn't be an issue for the animals with proper planning. The radius where you see, hear and feel the fire is much smaller than for fireworks. And no real, loud boom either.
