If I have my info correct, Disney cannot develop new rides using that technology right now.

The designer, KUKA, has an exclusive deal with Universal.
Correct. Though I'm wondering when that deal expires. It shouldn't last forever. I wouldn't be surprised if by the end of the decade they had options to acquire the tech, which is the basis of the flagship attraction over at HP. Disney was actually developing a ride using that technology involving the Incredibles if memory serves.

I've heard the same thing. The 1st Harry Potter ride uses this technology.

I have to question the quality of the steak when it comes from the cookie cutter restaurant chain that gave us Rainforest Cafe, Yak and Yeti and T-Rex.

Disney Parks Blog has just confirmed updates to Peter Pan's Flight and the Matterhorn:

While this shouldn't come as surprise, it's always good to have confirmation and more specifics.

It appears the new Yeti Abominable Snowman is happening:image.jpg
Along with other effects changes.

Also the nursery scene in Peter Pan's Flight is getting a total revamp along with other in ride improvements.

I wonder if/when this will be coming to Magic Kingdom.

This come to the magic kingdom yeah right they are getting crap for the Pirates refurb already. There is no way they would take down pan for months to do this.

I understand that WDW is more the once-in-a-lifetime type of experience and that many people don't like missing their favorite rides, but it's a shame that DL can afford to close a popular ride for an entire year and get cool new special effects, but as soon as you announce you'll close a ride at WDW for a few months, many people go crazy.

Exactly that's why we'll probably never see the BTMRR effects either.

The KUKA Arm has a ten year exclusivity with Universal from the opening of Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey, which is why we lost out on an Incredibles ride in Tomorrowland according to Jim Hill's podcast.
If I remember correctly it was around the 2007-2009 range when that all transpired. Going off the basis of them not starting the ten years when the first use was clocked in, we could have a ride deployed by 2020ish.

Don't be a downer @rteetz, eventually these rides will run themselves into the ground, and they'll be forced to update them!

In all seriousness, I feel like Disney would love to have the marketability of saying they've updated PPF. Pretty cheap update, and they can really pull the nostalgia heartstrings. WDW 50 isn't too far off. If this Diamond Celebration works well, expect TDO to be taking notes.

Ahh, but he's right - I've talked to Imagineers that say they could fix the Yeti problem in about 2 months time, but WDW is too afraid to shut down EE to do it. So here we are 10 years on with Disco Yeti.

This is my umpteenth saying this:

If they don't want to fix the yeti, fine. BUT STOP SHOWING A FULLY FUNCTIONAL YETI IN YOUR PROMOTIONAL VIDEOS!!!

You would think they would stop showing it so people wouldn't know what they were missing and wouldn't complain.

You do realize like 99.9 % of guests don't even realize it isn't working...right? That's the real reason they don't fix it. The vast majority doesn't even notice, and the small minority that cares never stops going anyways.

This is TDO we are talking about you expect huge things for the 50th? They are most likely going to sell the DHS updates as part of it. WDW will run these rides into the ground but they won't shut them down for more than 4 months just like pirates unless of course they get some new management maybe.

Yes, I know. It reinforces my point. If they took that footage out, it would help keep people in the dark about it.
