News Round Up

It is most definitely a cultural phenomenon, and this status has nothing to do with the box office. It has everything to do with the reaction in our culture. Just perusing articles and YouTube shows the strength of its effect. Go to any group of kids and mention one line from the movie and see what happens. Or for that matter, parents. Many writers have used the term and backed it up with facts. Now I agree that it hasn't yet passed the long term test of time. But every indicator so far points in that direction. Watch what happens with the special in Sept, OuaT, and Christmas. It ain't over till its over, and it ain't going to be over for a long, long time.

I guess my point/take can be summed up that I believe cultural phenomenon is the result of a formula that HAS to include staying power over time...not 10 months.
It's like "PI" in the formula for area of a circle...can't yield a result without it.

(Can't wait for "what's with your holier than thou references to math!?!"...guess I deserve that? I'm told...???)

Gonna have to agree. In 50 years, will it be as revered as Sleeping Beauty? Sure, it's making money hand over fist....but so did Beanie Babies. I think we're still in fad territory, here. There could be another billion-dollar, flavor of the week right around the corner.

It's a premium event for an already premium event. Pete the owner of this dis said he was on the phone for over 40 minutes trying to get tickets for this.

It seems ridiculous enough...but as you point out, they can easily manipulate a large captive audience.

The anecdote is disturbing on so many levels

I caution the acceptance of profit, revenue, and stock price figures as completely definitive.

Profitable companies have lost their soul and future in a blink of an eye in past instances.

Besides... Read the important part of that article...the last quoted paragraph..and interpret it for what it is.

I understand people want to sit and discuss the news topics, but if you choose to do so for a length of time please make another thread. This one is for news and short discussions about the news. A little more then a page is enough.

Ok, so it comes down to definition. I see two levels to cultural phenomenon: 1. Something that captures the cultural imagination in an immediate way. This would include the pet rock, the Beatles, and Frozen. All are things that quickly spread and got lots of interest and attention across our U.S. culture (And sometimes further, as with Frozen) 2. A long term cultural phenomenon or cultural "icon". This would not include pet rocks, but would include the Beatles. Frozen has not been around long enough to qualify, but many indicators, and Disney movie history, make it appear very likely that it will be around for many years. For number 2, the jury is still out. For 1, Frozen already qualifies.

No insult taken, btw. Hand me some Koolaid - in a glass half full, of course. :)

Oops, just saw this OP. Point taken.

Disneyland is now doing e-tickets. They are available on the Disneyland Resort mobile site. This would replace having to carry an actual ticket now they would just scan your smart phone.

Kind of figured this would happen. Really like said in the article the biggest thing in question is the parade. I missed the parade when we were there and from what I've heard it isn't very good so I think they could do away with it and just keep the rest. Or like also said in the article take some floats not in use and change them to fit the theme.

That's like saying "no talking in this conversation"

Extra threads don't go anywhere...
Part of the reason that few bother to read the "news and rumors" board is because there is so little to talk about.

Do we want to kill good discussions with rules?
Legitimate question?

I post the news i could careless about the discussions you have as long as its on topic. A lot of threads go way off into nonsense and I don't like that.

I like this thread and appreciate the effort that goes in to it.... but always thought it was a bit odd to have a sub section of rumors and news titled news.. if we had one titled rumors, we could get rid of the rumors and news forum? It would only have two threads... rumors, and news.......hmmm... And it all falls in under the group "discussion"... just saying...

A lot of people don't post here, because they feel like there's no point, since they're not one of the three people whose opinions apparently are "right" or "matter".

Discussion is different than what usually happens in this forum. Discussion is a back and forth between multiple parties. You can't have a discussion while one or two parties are standing on a soapbox, or admonishing someone else for having a different viewpoint.

Per the OP, If someone posts news here like "Disney announces Frozen Land to replace Hollywood Studios". Great! Have an opinion! But start a different thread about it. Let this thread be a summary for people to read.

Don't let it intimidate you--- they are harmless. It's all an act.

My problem is I don't have a degree in financing or business management, which eliminates me from a lot of the discussions.

Technically, the list of threads should be the same thing.

I have a business mgmt degree but it still goes over my head sometimes. Hahaha.

I think most here are finance wizards. Not I. It's always an interesting read though even if I don't have a clue how to respond

I like this thread because its mostly about the little news stories like construction updates, a new procedure, a new limited edition magic band etc. I feel like those things don't need and entire thread to themselves because they'll get a post or two after and then die off. Big things still deserve their own threads tho like say when disney announced Disney Springs or if disney announced a star wars expansion that is big enough for its own thread.

Entrance 4 at Downtown Disney will be permanently closing on Thursday August 28 2014 as work on the new West Side parking garage progresses.

Entrance 4 is located between Cirque du Soleil and DisneyQuest. Its closure now means that there are 2 entrances available into Downtown Disney, Entrance 5, which is opposite the Typhoon Lagoon main entrance, and Entrance 2, opposite the Hess Station. Entrance 1, opposite the Casting Center remains exit only.
