News Round Up

Not sure if this has been posted before, but here you go. Bad news for Pixar fans. It seems like Good Dinosaur might be Pixar's first commercial failure after a poor reception in the domestic box office and underperforming in the international market. There's still some hope for the movie since it still hasn't opened in a couple of big markets, but overall, everything indicates that this might be Pixar's lowest-grossing film to date.

My opinion? I personally think Pixar needed this. Everyone holds Pixar to such high standards, so a film that isn't a critical and financial success for them can only help them lower their expectations. Plus, I think some Pixar animators and fans have become a bit too arrogant when discussing animation as they think Pixar can do no wrong, so this might help with that as well.

Not sure "failure" is appropriate for the Good Dinosaur, but it certainly isn't a big hit. Looks like that retheming of Dinoland USA will have to wait.

I've read a couple of reports that say Good Dinosaur may struggle a little bit to recover its expenses, especially since domestic numbers are what really matter to Disney. As the holidays approach they may sell some extra tickets before Star Wars kicks in though.

I have yet to see it but I think pixars problems with this film was it didn't have the hype like other films. I also think Pixar releasing two films in a year isn't that great of an idea. Everything I've heard says the animation is incredible but the story just isn't there.

I saw it last weekend because I wanted to see the animation. The animation really is excellent. Everything except the dinosaur. He looks like Gumby with scales. The broad shots and water scenes are so good that you forget it isn't actual outdoor shots, but the story was not that exciting.

The film's production was really problematic overall. They changed the director, pretty much the whole cast, and the story wasn't working at many points throughout the production stage. I personally liked the film. The animation was amazing as usual, and the emotional parts were really touching, but overall the story was way too simple and something that has been seen before, with many people comparing it to Lion King and Land Before Time. As for the marketing, I agree that the film wasn't effectively marketed. However, reports are saying that Disney spent almost 150 million dollars marketing the film, which on top of the massive budget of 200 million, makes it quite hard for Good Dinosaur to break even.

Releasing two films the same year might've worked for Inside Out, arguably one of Pixar's strongest films in recent years. It's clear it wasn't the case for Good Dinosaur though. Investors can relax a bit since Pixar's slate of films include Finding Dory, Cars 3, Toy Story 4 and Incredibles 2, anyways.

You know... I was thinking about this and I hope that they will now use some of the projected influx of traffic in dak to finance some more animal additions...

Another tragedy about the place is that they went along time without augmenting the animals. If you're gonna run a zoo...run a zoo
Well this is the second animal addition in the last year. Disney also doesn't market AK as a zoo rather a theme park, and in my opinion the best theme park in WDW.

Agree that it is the best theme park by far, just not my favorite park.

"Story just isn't there" is exactly right. It's just an extremely boring movie with no story, a main character will basically no personality, very little humor, and just not that great of a movie.

Also, it really irritates how much Disney/Pixar marketed this movie as "what if the asteroid never hit the earth" as if it was some important plot of the movie. It was basically a gigantic political campaign to make sure everyone knows they don't believe in creation and that humans didn't exist at the same time as dinosaurs. I'm not making an argument for either belief, but this is just something that was completely unnecessary and was not even subtle about what it was trying to do. If the movie took place in modern day where dinosaurs still existed, maybe it would make sense. But it literally had nothing to do with the movie.

I personally disagree with the asteroid statement. John Lasseter has always said that whereas Disney animated films follow a ''Once upon a time...'' structure, Pixar is all about ''What if...?'' For instance, what if your toys were alive? what if cars had personalities and lived in a world without humans? what if a rat had the ability to cook? etc. etc. They always use that in their promotional stuff. It's just their thing.

On the other hand, I do agree that the ''what if the asteroid never hit the Earth?'' emphasis was unnecessary given the time they actually spent explaining that particular plot point in the film.

Indirectly related to Disney, but the Wizarding World of Harry Potter will open in Hollywood on April 7, 2016. Not sure if this was mentioned anywhere here.

That's great. Can't wait to visit either that one or Orlando's. Whatever comes first.
