News Round Up 2020

If you want to do business in China you have to publicly be nice to the Chinese government. Just ask the NBA. It’s a choice but with two parks Disney is already in deep.
Saying thank you and showing gratitude doesn't have to be political. In fact, it should be universal. pirate:

Maybe you find a way to do that without specifically thanking the agency the has been placed in charged of a million Muslims in concentration camps. So much for “never again” if Disney gets excused because not thanking the Chinese version of the “Death’s Head Unit” is bad for business and not nice.

Also, I didn’t know being anti-concentration camp was a political opinion. I thought concentration camps were basically universally looked down on like child abuse.

Whoa there, I think you are confusing two totally different topics here. I will simplify.

Disney asked for permission to film some scenes of the movie in China. China obliged and helped Disney get that done. Disney thanked them. It is that simple.

Now then, if you want to raise your concerns then they need to be raised about even making the movie in the first place or filming the scenes in China. I totally understand that stance. If so, then it sounds like you need to boycott the movie and Disney. That is your right. Feel free to do so.

Strong rumor category:

It looks like Universal is going to open up a few of the Halloween Horror Nights haunted houses it already built for daytime use (maybe?), maybe starting even tomorrow. No official announcements, or any idea what capacity or which ones, though, along with a bit later weekend hours.

Lots of subtle hints about it, and these HHN house entrance sign frameworks popped up this morning:

Looks like they had to use the licenses or lose em, so this will certainly help bump up that projected september october lull.

I feel like I would prefer this to the actual HHN ... This seems like the fall I should go visit as I like this plus the holiday elements during the day at the Disney Parks more than regular set up

FYI - I was wondering about the cost of Cinderella's Royal Table now without characters and looks like they did adjust the price a little as I just tried to book something to see what would come up

Only one menu is available (listed as Lunch) and it is $62 for adults (instead of the former $75) and $37 for kids (instead of the former $45) - so not a huge savings, but a little bit

The fact that they discounted it to begin with is the interesting part. I personally think it should be a bit more off but I'm just surprised they actually did it.

I assume they feel dining in the Castle is still a draw - plus I suspect to keep social distancing they will have to really reduce the number of parties they can fit in there (it isn't a huge space) so probably need to keep cost a bit high just to cover their operating costs

I can see some people willing to give it a try now just because there is some reduced price

Oh yeah I know why they kept it up and I get it (makes sense) I'm just surprised they, meaning Disney, discounted it in the first place ya know?

Yep. In fact, if we had a trip planned I'd be sorely tempted. My kids and the rest of my family don't really care for character meals or meet and greets. It's just not our thing. But I do have fond memories of dining in the castle as a kid and I would probably be interested in this slight discount to give my kids those same memories.

I think you are confused about who all Disney thanked in the credits. They didn't just thank the local and regional governments. They, also, specifically thanked the government agency that runs the concentration camps. The fact that Disney either didn't properly research or thought they could sneak through who they were specifically thanking in that thank you is the reason why Disney has a PR mess on their hands right now.

It is a stupid unforced error on their part.

My wife and I had breakfast there in 2013 and I believe we paid $37 and I remember being stupefied at how expensive it was, and thought to myself that if this was just a few dollars more, we wouldn't be doing this. But it was my big surprise to her on the trip.

I can't even with the pricing on these add-on experiences anymore. And this isn't even a real experience! No PPO access because it's lunch, no princesses, it's bananas. I could make a million dollars a year and I wouldn't pay $62 for lunch in a tiny room with stained glass windows; I can do that at Church for free.
