Welp, what can I say, I'm an optimist.
For anyone who missed the call and doesn't want to read the 22 page thread I thought a quick TL: DR on parks only might be useful:
- Shanghai reopening May 11
- Masks required for all
- "much" less than 30% of capacity to start, scaling up over time. Current gov't cap is 30%.
- Using dated tickets that have to be booked in advance
- US park openings may use different procedures
- No timeline for US parks
- No guideposts for US parks in terms of health statistics or government stages
- Parks need to be able to make a "positive contribution at the net contribution line"* to reopen
- Chapek confirmed thinking that parks will likely reopen below capacity with limited attractions
- For new attractions and buildings in the parks: "we still continue to have big plans. Those good ideas before COVID are going to be really good ideas after...there are certain trimmings that we’re doing here and there...we’re just going to go ahead and take a slightly finer-tooth comb, if you will, through those expenditures but essentially plan on investing behind those businesses like we always have. "
- Confirmed that essentially all construction projects will remain suspended while the parks are closed
*this means they need to lose less money being open than they do closed, but Chapek specifically notes that they're not trying to turn a profit with the parks at this time.
