News Round Up 2020

I imagine the idea is this will attract new subscribers who've been on the fence. Getting a new release so soon is definitely exciting, regardless of what's going on in the world.
I think Disney (since they have nothing else going on) should use this time to push all sorts of "new" content to Disney+ to attract new subscribers. The problem being, they just don't have a lot of "new" content, but pushing out some other "old" content early that has been missing will work too. If they push Mulan or Black Widow to Disney+, that could attract a lot of new subscribers too.

But really, the platform needs to fix the stuff it has on there (Is Phineas and Ferb and Duck Tales still broken?))

for us it is still the new stuff that gets us to log in most often. We are still looking forward to Friday when new things land .... Diary of a Future President and Shop Class specifically.

We just watched Star Girl the other night and looking forward to the start of Disney Insider (first episode out today)

might not be like at launch with Mandelorian and Imagineering Story, but still mostly the new stuff that we watch (though did also just go through the season of the Muppet Show that was on ABC a few years ago, that was new to us, and enjoyed it)

Reminds me .. I still haven't watched last episode of Imagineering because I heard it had spoilers of Rise of the Resistance. Heh .. who knows when I will get to see Rise now, so maybe it is time to watch it and feel the magic.

Yeah, the platform is still very buggy. I believe Phineas and Ferb and DuckTales are still out of order, and most of their 80s and 90s cartoons are still missing their first episodes (the only one that seems to be exempt from this is Gargoyles). For me, some older stuff would be very exciting, since some of the movies and shows I was most excited to watch either weren't available at first, or are still nowhere to be seen. I am astounded Enchanted is missing, and Pepper Ann seems like an obvious choice but is also MIA.

Star Wars Rival Run Weekend has been cancelled.

I hope this is a sign that they are starting to be ready to announce closures for more than just 2 weeks at a time. Of course, I also think that even if WDW is open by the weekend after Easter (that's when this was scheduled, right?) they wouldn't be ready to host a big RunDisney event yet.

They wouldn't be particularly difficult to fast-forward through. I don't think watching it in FF would be particularly spoiler-y - you've probably already seen all the major show scenes from various Disney ads.

A little more information on yesterday's debt offering, $6 Billion total issued with 5 different maturity dates.

Disney is paying 3.8% for 2030 bonds; in a vacuum, that's still a pretty good rate, but it's much worse than the 2.2% yield on 10 year bonds Disney issues last fall.

The Rise of the Resistance stuff is at the very end too - so if you are wanting to avoid spoilers you could just turn it off once they get to it

I did watch it before I rode RotR and didn't really spoil things - did show a few elements that I hadn't seen (or at least not as much of) before so if you are really trying to avoid things I would just turn the episode off once they get to that topic

I don't think they'll consider adding Mulan or Black Widow anytime soon for a number of reasons. It might draw new subscribers, but there's no chance that Disney would earn the same amount of money than if it were released in theaters 3-4 months from now. Given that Chinese cinemas are re-opening and Japanese cinemas are still open, a lot of people are expecting that theaters around the world will all be re-opening by early summer. I just can't see Disney being that desperate before then.

even if it’s not early summer, either could do really well around the Holidays, or they could push them back to 2021 - especially now that the movies that were supposed to come out next year are on indefinite production hold, and I’d imagine some will be outright cancelled. They could just push everything back 6-9 months, making Mulan/Black Widow/Soul their big Holiday releases, Raya the Last Dragon/Jungle Cruise the big Spring 2021 films, and then fill in late 2021 with whatever was meant for early 2021.
