News Round Up 2020

Since they went to the trouble of installing barriers, why didn't they just make them a tad bigger so that groups could sit next to each other safely? More people could fit with physical barriers to prevent droplet transmission between groups of seats. I think the wait times are going to be long at park open and close unless they run a lot more buses.

I have always felt like I’m a jinx. I have my own law based on Newton’s which states “anything that can go wrong, will go wrong for me.” I don’t regret moving here at all, but it’s crazy and I can’t help thinking it’s my fault that the year we move here, the parks shut down for the first time in 50 years, give or take half a dozen 1-2 day closures over the decades.

I'll take half the jinx from your shoulders and put it on mine.

So are crowds low at the parks? Lower than even capacity restrictions?

YES! Was there Tues and Thurs last week and aside from HP streets, you can take empty park pictures. We rode every nearly every ride and some rides 2 or 3 times between the two days even with the park closing at 6. Lucked into a tech rehearsal of the new Bourne show on my first ever day at Universal Orlando!

FYI - you have to copy/paste the link and replace the stars with the f-bomb in order to read the article.

Weekends have been a bit more crowded and Volcano Bay has hit capacity a few times but overall pretty quiet

Will be interesting to see if it picks up there too after Disney opens and people come down to potentially do combo trips ... Or, with Covid cases spiking (in FL) does that keep more people away, at least for a while

Very low crowds at Universal. The first picture was Diagon Alley a year ago in June on a Tuesday afternoon. The second was almost exactly a year later on a weekend afternoon.

And a couple more - the first on a Monday evening a year ago and the second a year later on a late Tuesday afternoon.

Pretty you are thinking of Murphy's Law, not Newton's Law of physics. ;)

True story, when I worked for an airline I created a modification for the "Installation of a Murphy Proofing feature." A mechanic at JFK took it to HR and complained about the term (which is very common in aviation), I had to change all the paperwork that day and prove to HR it was a common term and I wasn't just out to get the Murphys.

Nah man, my last name is Newton. It’s my personal name for Murphy’s law.

Did you buy that? I didn’t think so. Just another example of my law going wrong. I can’t even explain the law right.

GOLD AP RENEWAL UPDATE:

I wanted to share an update on Gold AP renewals. An email went out to DVC member services cast members just before 11:00 am authorizing them to renew Gold AP for members prior to their renewal window. I do not know if this only applies to guests with existing reservations after their expiration date or any gold AP holder. I also do not know if this applies to other levels of AP. I just happened to be in this very situation while on the phone with the member's services cast member when she received the email.

My pass was not "extended" but rather I was issued a Gold AP "renewal voucher" that was linked to MDE it shows the 12/31/30 expiration like an ordinary AP voucher that has not been redeemed and allowed me to make my park reservations.

Also, as a side note, I used an autodialer to get through to member services after 200 failed attempts in the last 24 hours that all resulted in busy signals. The autodialer had me on hold after less than a minute. The wait time was quoted as 35 minutes but was actually just under an hour.

anyone get this to work?

Disney most assuredly will do a big round of these as well, unfortunately.
Probably most of the tourist industry (including airlines) will be doing huge layoffs soon. And these will be more permanent than the "temporary" COVID layoffs. :(.

The summer season is pretty shot for most things. A lot of big tourist/theme-park attractions (locally, like Carowinds, Tweetsie Railroad, King's Dominion) don't have plans to open up yet and may not all summer.
