I did not mean it like that. However there are signs that say to not go in the water. I also know that if this is indeed the case the two year old could have run off from the parents or something. This is a fluid situation.
Child was not swimming. Parents were there and tried to fight the alligator. Can people PLEASE stop jumping to conclusions? This is just tragic.
I have read over the past few pages a few times and I don't see where rteetz made any jokes??
NO ONE wants to diminish this family's pain. Our hearts ache for them. NO ONE is blaming them.
I stayed up and watched the news conference live.
This is a HORRIFIC event for this family.
I can't even begin to imagine their pain (I have kids).
What was reported by the OC Sheriff:
The child WAS IN the water.
The child was playing in the water about a foot out from shoreline.
The father was standing nearby.
The mother was with other child(ren) at lounge and playpen.
There are signs, multiple, on all beaches at the resorts that say no swimming.
No swimming.
Going in the water = swimming.
This gator was doing what it normally does at night, feed on small things along the shoreline that are splashing about.
Assume I know nothing - if I see a sign that says No Swimming ... my first gut instinct
is there is something dangerous in the water. First thought, something that will make me sick.
Pollution, chemicals, etc. Next thought would be snakes or other critters.
While most don't know about the dangerous bacteria ..... here is an FYI.
IT IS AT IT'S WORST AT THE SHORELINE where it is warm.
A small child in the shallow water is at high risk of splashing the bacteria into their nose or ears.
PLEASE tell anyone you know to not let their children to play in the lakes that are all over Florida.
Florida is like one gigantic animal sanctuary, even at the beach.
Disney can not remove all animals from the vegetation and waterways.
Snakes, lizards, armadillo, alligators, rats, wild hogs, deer and even Florida panthers are on property.
Be aware, think about where you go and do what the signs say.
BREAKING NEWS: ALL WDW Beaches are now shut down.
