News Round Up 2016

Did the 8-year old you like Home on The Range? Have you re-watched it with an "adult" eye?

A great movie in general - not just a Disney movie, has to work for kids and adults alike.

Kids are easier to please. Snow White isn't still popular 80 years on because it worked as a kids movie.
Yes I haven't watched it since I was probably 10-11. We have it on DVD so I could I just haven't really wanted to.

Just saw this which contradicts part of the previous post that states writer Chris McQuarrie will be heavily involved with reshoots:

“If there are any reshoots on ‘Rogue One,’ I’m not supervising them. For any outlet to say so is not only wrong, it’s irresponsible. Gareth Edwards is a talented filmmaker who deserves the benefit of the doubt,” McQuarrie told Slashfilm. “Making a film – let alone a ‘Star Wars’ chapter – is hard enough without the internet trying to deliberately downgrade one’s years of hard work. Who does that even serve? Let him make his movie in peace.”

Finally!!! I was waiting to hear what was going to be "re-imagined" on the Wonder. Very excited about the pub and Tiana's!

Personally, I'm a little disappointed...I was hoping Tiana's would be the signature restaurant on the new ships. I always thought (along with many others I'm sure) that a Southern restaurant with a cajun flair would be a fantastic addition to DCL. But I only go on 7-day cruises, so I won't ever be on the Wonder again. Just don't think it's worth it to take a 3 or 4 day cruise.

Exactly what I was going to say.

What surprises me from this are how high Bolt and Pooh are, and how low Meet the Robinsons is. I knew Chicken Little, HotR, and Brother Bear were all poorly received, but I thought MTR was acknowledged as a very good movie, that just didn't do well at the box office.

For my personal rankings, I'd probably rank them

1. Wreck-It Ralph
2. Zootopia
3. Tangled
4. Meet the Robinsons
5. Frozen

6. Didn't care for the rest enough to ever rewatch them.

Some other info I read about Rougue One - this report at least saying the reshoots are due to the "tone" of the movie and executives wanting it to have more lighthearted moments and not be a "war movie"

"According to The Hollywood Reporter, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is set to end ten minutes before the events of A New Hope. It was recently revealed that the film will have several re-shoots in mid-June.

The reason for this is that Disney executives saw the film and thought it was tonally different from a “classic” Star Wars movie. The cut they saw was described as having the tone of a war movie. The re-shoots are designed to add a “sense of fun” to the film.

A source said: “This is the closest thing to a prequel ever. This takes place just before A New Hope and leads up to the 10 minutes before that classic film begins. You have to match the tone! Anything less than extraordinary won’t do.“ "

I thought they did Alaska, 7 nights, on Wonder. I agree though about <7 nights, but people have to do what is best for them. I wouldn't mind doing a Transatlantic though, so the more nights the better for me:)

Doesn't it make sense for it to have the tone of a war movie? Seriously asking because my knowledge on Star Wars is strictly through pop-culture osmosis. Just like all the Captain America movies really aren't super hero movies? Especially Captain America: Winter Solider. That felt more like a Bourne Identity movie.

Well, it could - and I agree it should be at least somewhat "darker" than the other Star Wars movies ... but I somewhat agree with the comments that it needs to fit in the style of the other movies if this is to lead right into A New Hope

So, in my opinion, it can be like Empire Strikes Back, but ideally not Saving Private Ryan

I quite like the opening show but it hasn't changed in years so I don't know I'd actually miss it much if it went away. I sort of like the idea of letting people enter the park while the show is running, that way people who want to see it can but everyone else just moves on.

This would be fine. The opening show is pure cheese to me and I hate the way it herds everyone up like cattle and forces everyone there for rope drop to sit through it. It took me by surprise the first time because we had been out west for years and never dealt with it (DL has no opening show, though they did have similar one in Toon Town for Magic Hour patrons only).

I miss the days when we could go into the park an hour early, grab a snack or breakfast on Main St and then be at the hub for rope drop.

That sounds like a rope drop I would actually go to! We didn't hit any at MK last time but the pictures and videos I've seen of the rope drop procedure have really turned me off. I would prefer to arrive a few minutes AFTER and not have to deal with being herded like cattle up main street.

Got a lunch are for skipper's canteen for November. Hoping the menu changes for the better by then. I thought it would have changed by now after the announced it. Or was that a rumor, I can't remember ☺

It was a rumor.

Out of curiosity...what would "for the better" be?

Just a rumor, but I';m sure based on a real lack of crowds.

Out of curiosity...what would "for the better" be? I have heard complaints about the quality of the food, but I hope people aren't just hoping to the same ol' thing in a not setting.

For the better would be a few less out there choices. It doesn't need to be burgers and chicken strips, they do that mediocre food enough places, but there are those of us that have more simple tastes that travel with those that like the current menu. Something more like chicken teriyaki and white rice that will fits with the menu. And better quality since I've read that needs help.

I have heard that as well. Quality seems inconsistent going to word of mouth. The menu as is would appeal to my family (including DS9), but prices are $$$ to roll the dice on quality (we will anyway). I just have flash backs to our years in L.A. and trips to Blue Bayou at DL, the quality of food just didn't justify the (relatively) high prices.

Also out of curiosity...if you are the one with the "simple tastes," what would you take a chance on if they don't change the menu?

The "mac & cheese" that isn't really. I haven't heard good things about it.

Eta- the price is what keeps me from the steak. I alsodont recall any of the sides sounding good so if I only eat the steak ouch.
