News Round Up 2016

Got a lunch are for skipper's canteen for November. Hoping the menu changes for the better by then. I thought it would have changed by now after the announced it. Or was that a rumor, I can't remember ☺

I am the other way, I am hoping they don't change it before our July trip as it sounds really good to me!

edit: read your follow-up post and I would be ok if they added a few "tamer" options ... just really don't want it to become just burgers and chicken fingers though - I like the idea of something with different options

The "mac & cheese" that isn't really. I haven't heard good things about it.

Eta- the price is what keeps me from the steak. I alsodont recall any of the sides sounding good so if I only eat the steak ouch.

You more adventurous then you give yourself credit for, I think they are just asking for trouble by taking "a typical Egyptian dish consisting of Spiced Ground Beef, Pasta, and Béchamel Sauce served with Broccoli" and giving it a comfort food name like Skip's Mac 'n' Cheese. Even with the full description on the menu, the name mac n cheese will probably throw people a mental curve ball.

I would say the most basic things on the main menu are the steak salad or pork medallions over white rice (I would guess you could get white rice with the marinated chicken as well)...but you picked Egyption spiced beef mixed with béchamel sauce.

I kinda feel like the menu doesn't do itself any favors. A lot of the dishes, if you look at the ingredients, aren't that exotic, they just have exotic names ... and then the one dish with a "normal" name (Mac n cheese) actually is a bit of a different form of the dish

For the better would be a few less out there choices. It doesn't need to be burgers and chicken strips, they do that mediocre food enough places, but there are those of us that have more simple tastes that travel with those that like the current menu. Something more like chicken teriyaki and white rice that will fits with the menu. And better quality since I've read that needs help.
A cousin of mine is really picky and went to Canteen. Nothing on the menu appealed to them and they had to go get Mac n cheese from a different place...definetely need to improve the menu, both quality wise with the current food, and more things for the picky kids!

That's the thing though. Look at the menu before hand if you don't like it go somewhere else. MK doesn't have any unique restuarants and this was the first one. MK doesn't need anymore cheeseburger and chicken tender type places. I was hoping the menu wouldn't change so I could try this place.

The problem with this is that eventually you end up with every restaurant on property serving Chicken nuggets and Hamburgers. Personally I prefer a unique menu but they are becoming more and more scarce.

I think we were sharing on brain on this reply.

Well, it could - and I agree it should be at least somewhat "darker" than the other Star Wars movies ... but I somewhat agree with the comments that it needs to fit in the style of the other movies if this is to lead right into A New Hope

So, in my opinion, it can be like Empire Strikes Back, but ideally not Saving Private Ryan

Sad thing is we probably won't ever get to see this first cut of the film. I would love to see how it compares to the final product. A grittier, darker take on a Star Wars story might not be unwelcomed on these side projects. Unfortunately, this may set a precedent that any writer or director who wishes to impart their own creative visions on these stories will most likely be reined in by the corporate types in the future.

I heard it's bland though. Didn't remember their being white rice, that could work and.change out the sides.

I don't think they need to wholly change the menu or add nuggets form the kids just make a few things a bit more tame and understood and maybe get rid of head in shrimp. I don't want food staring at me from anyone's plate ☺

I believe the idea was to be more like The Dirty Dozen or Guns of Navarone. There are supposed to be a lot of lives lost on the mission (per "A New Hope), which may be one problem. But the issue seems to be that the anthology movies lack Jedi and The Force mythos, which marketing considers a key element of the Star Wars brand (executives at movie studios usually always come up from marketing).

I got my rezzies today as well (for August). Thanks, rteetz!

And I hope the menu stays the same. At least until I've gotten a chance to try it.

MK is an interesting scenario food wise. You have 3 monorail resorts all with great signature restaurants. You have BOG and now Skipper. Obviously Crystal Palace, Cinderella's, Liberty tree & Tony's.

You've got several Counter service and snack types.

I'd want another table service that's quality, but if you're trying to feed the family fast & cheap(er), you're looking at cosmic rays for general appeal. For me personally, another quality restaurant would be amazing, I just see how a family of 5+ it's another huge bill and having someone not happy with their menu choices.

When you think of all the options in that MK immediate area, the guest to table ratio is scary out of balance and during peak times....oh my. They could easily justify a huge increase. BUT EPCOT is marketed as the wine & dine park.

It's really wild to think of the razors edge they walk for appeal and they could double the amount of tables.

My friend went there right away and said they had a lot of kinks to work out, but the food was awesome. Sense, I've heard they've toned down the palette. Regional tastes are tricky and they're trying to cater to a world wide market has to be nuts. If you're not sure just order a steak in NYC & LA and compare. Or God forbid pizza (wont name cities, but some have no idea what a pizza should taste like).

Agree - another case of "why isn't the entire parks and resorts oriented towards what I like" syndrome. If you don't want to try what's there - move on to the 12 places in MK with standard American junk food choices. I made a reservation for October, and look forward to seeing the different choices.
