News Round Up 2016

For me, Brother Bear was better than HotR and Chicken Little. I'm ashamed to say I've never seen Treasure Planet. And I think Meet the Robinsons was way better than Bolt. But hey, just my thoughts...

So I'm bored at work and got curious...

I decided to pull up every Walt Disney Animation theatrical release RottenTomatoes Score. I know it's hard to read but I thought it was pretty interesting.

Some things to note, "Victory Through the Air" and "Fun and Fancy Free" could not be found on RottenTomatoes. Also, RottenTomatoes probably isn't the best way to view movie ratings based on the way they aggregate reviews, but meh...

Bolt was the first Disney movie that fell under the regime of John Lassiter when he took oversight of all Disney Animation. It was WILDLY reworked from it's original concept. Remember Disney was coming off a nadir in it's animation studios with the previous three releases being "Home on the Range", "Chicken Little" and "Meet the Robinsons" (and before that "Brother Bear" and "Treasure Planet") - easy to forget what a mess Disney Animation was in the mid-2000s. (Edit: I know these movies have their defenders, but c'mon on - best defense is really "they're not that bad".)

Anyways - I agree that Bolt is actually a pretty darn good movie - and the start of the rebound in Disney Animation. For those that don't think John Lassiter is important to Disney Animation - just look at that shift from those to Princess & The Frog and Tangled the next two years.

I just can't take Bolt serious because he is voiced by John Travolta.

Treasure Planet and Brother Bear are actually pretty solid films. Can't believe Brother Bear is below Home on the Range, which in my opinion is on a Black Caldroun level of messines. Come to think about it, Bear should be higher or in the same lavel as Pixar's Good Dinosaur, which is pretty much the same story.

I don't like Meet the Robinsons, but the ending always gets me, and Bolt is quite decent.

Don't be surprised if you notice a massive lightsaber in the sky!

Some new details on the Rouge One reshoot

"According to Making Star Wars (a definitive source for updates concerning the modern films), the Rogue One crew estimates that they are reshooting roughly 40 percent of the movie. They will be working six days a week for a period of eight weeks, and 32 sets have been built for this phase of the production. It was always expected there would be reshoots, it’s just that they now might be more substantial than originally thought."

We talked about reshoots but didn't talk about these details. 40% of the movie is a lot.

Maybe they should simply postpone the release date. People are going to see it regardless of its release date. Rushing it will only make things worse, especially if almost half of your film wasn't done well the first time.

Seeing those charts makes me wonder...are movies on rotten tomatoes that are geared more towards a female audience typically rated higher than a movie of the same quality that is geared towards men. But same can be said of tv ratings as well, they are biased towards a certain type of programming, and it does actually capture the true popularity of some shows.

Let's replace Tony's !!!!
Hey, I like Tony's - and based on the number of other people sitting around in the waiting area (they could stand to modernize this process and at least get pagers!), lots of other folks do too....I think it's way better than Tutto Italia in EPCOT.

Rumor is that a slipped date is now a high possibility...but that would leave a big hole in the holiday schedule to be filled by a studio...

I just booked mine for September. The website wasn't coming up with anything but it was working on the app. :)

I just got one for my July trip using the website. Somewhat limited availability though (I entered for noon and they came up with 11:45 or 12:40) so I wonder if they are still keeping some for walk-ups

Disney can always move Moana to December. Moana is opening just one week after the Harry Potter spin-off in November, which is a big risk even though their respective target markets don't seem to overlap that much.

C'mon. That's nothing to do with it. Those movies just aren't that good. Brother Bear feels like a hollow imitation of 5 other better Disney movies. Home on the Range is awful. Chicken Little as I said earlier is Disney trying to do Dreamworks - and not doing it that well.

Yeesh - if you believe it - that's a MASSIVE re-work. I guess it could be seen as a positive, but I am not so sure if you're movie is that messed up 6 months before release.

I liked Home on the Range... :rolleyes1:duck:

Did the 8-year old you like Home on The Range? Have you re-watched it with an "adult" eye?

A great movie in general - not just a Disney movie, has to work for kids and adults alike.

Kids are easier to please. Snow White isn't still popular 80 years on because it worked as a kids movie.
