Newest "Moms to Be" Thread

You know without someone pointing out features & landmarks, I find looking at U/S pics to be sort of like looking at a Rorschach test & trying to figure out what it is you see. Maybe it's just me. Guess I'd be a terrible u/s tech.

Not that I'm discouraging anyone from sharing, I know I'm always excited to see my u/s -- but I do need someone to point out what it is exactly I'm looking at!

No. I have that problem too and after 5 kids, you would think I would be a pro. :rotfl2: The only time I was ever spot-on was with my sister's u/s. She had a three year-old boy and REALLY wanted a girl for baby #2. Almost as soon as her ultrasound started, I spotted some definite boy parts. I didn't say anything, and I was sure I had just imagined it. But then the u/s tech confirmed it and pointed out the same things I had already seen. It's OK, sis now loves being a mom to boys-but I just remember seeing that, hoping I was wrong, and being glad I didn't have to be the one to tell her.

Well on second, third, fourth, etc viewings I *think I sorta see the face ones. In the first one it sort of looks like the lips are dead center of the picture, with the nostrils being the 2 darker spots just to the right. The child is sort of on his back with his chin tilted upwards.

In the second shot, it looks like a full on frontal shot of the face sideways, with the forehead being at the far right of the shot. Sorry but the foot shot just still sorta looks like a random blob to me. So Patsy how'd I do?

I was about to post the same. Im terrible at reading u/s. I don't see anything but a bunch of black and white, unless its a perfect silhouette. I wish I saw lips and stuff, I think i see a foot though! Hey, thats progress for me. I have my gender u/s next Wed and im afraid I wont understand anything she is saying or what im seeing! lol

WAIT: Im editing this. As i pressed submit i think i saw lips and nostrils in the first photo. Is it a REALLY close up of the face??

Yes, very close.

I was terrible before I had an ultrasound, though. The girl we get (and I've now had for all 4 ultrasounds!) is GREAT about pointing things out and not moving away until I see it.
It's a lot easier with her there helping me out. :thumbsup2
I totally mistook an arm for a leg and the hand for his foot. She corrected me, though.. and went back over the area to show me how it was connected and how she knew. She's great.

I am really glad you posted that because I never would have figured out where everything was :rotfl: Even with all the arrows pointing stuff out, I still had to look at it for a while before it became more clear to me. It's funny, when I had my U/S at 17 weeks I could see the baby so clearly but when they're printed out I find it harder to tell what's what. Hopefully I won't have that problem next Tuesday when I have my next U/S

Welcome to worm761 and eteacher23! We're glad to have you both join us :goodvibes

I know what you mean.. it's a lot easier when they're doing it!

She did get GREAT close ups. She sat and watched him pout his lips and lick them for like five minutes, she was entranced.
She told us at our first ultrasound in January that her brother and his wife were having a baby and they asked her permission to use her girl name *Abigail* and she was really upset.. until they found out they were having a boy.
She told us today she is pregnant!!
She seemed really surprised when I said "Well I hope you get your Abigail!" :rotfl: She also told me that I have to bring Lucas by, she wants to see those lips in person!
She said they peek constantly but she's only 13 weeks and they still can't tell. Can you imagine working there and getting to take a peek in between patients?? :lovestruc

Yeah, that's what I was seeing on the face shots. :) I would have never gotten the foot one by myself. It's really funny that you turned it around (upside-down) to label/show it. :goodvibes

It makes much, much more sense that way!
Totally funny to me. She was surprised that I couldn't tell he was head-down.. until she found his foot behind his head and saw that he was holding it there with his hand!

So I have a foot down, and that foot in the picture up by my ribs.
Told you guys he's a jazzerciser! :rotfl:

OHMYGOODNESS! I ONLY HAVE ONE MORE BOX TO GO!! :yay::banana::banana:
(In my ticker!)

Yay! I just bought my convertible crib, mattress and a changer all for about $350.00!:cool1: I love Wal Mart. I found the furniture at target and then checked the Wal Mart website and saved $80 in shipping because they will send it straight to a near by store. Such a deal. I just couldn't see spending thousands on nursery furniture, when he is a big boy then he can get new big boy furniture (and I promise not to be so cheap lol!).

We are going to do his room in airplanes. I found these cloud sheets and model airplanes and decals. So cute!!!

He still needs a name though...

Hey Girls!
I have a question. Has anyone tried those pregnancy belts?
I'm really miserable lately with this giant belly and I don't know if I should invest in those belts considering I only (or still... depending how you look at it... :lmao:) have 4.5 weeks left.

Skylarr-- DH and I went and looked at furniture yesterday. Which set did you get?

Okay I have my gender u/s next week (a week from today)... I have a question...

Do i need a full bladder?

Dh has to work that day so he is going in late after our apt. Our apt is at 9am... i know ill have to get up and pee after I wake up. Im trying to decide on what time to wake up as to when to pee- lol. Funny how we schedule these types of things. lol

Our office requires us to finish drinking 32oz of water 1hr prior to the appt. After that no going potty until after the appt.
Good luck! It's so exciting to to see your baby on U/S :lovestruc

You know, you might give the place you are getting the u/s a quick call to ask. I'm getting mine done at Maternal Fetal Medicine at the hospital & I remember seeing a sign (in the bathroom in the waiting area) that any patients getting a first trimester screening ultrasound should *not* empty their bladder until after the test. Which leads one to infer that other ultrasounds did not require the full bladder. So I wasn't worrying about it too much. I have my level II (anatomy) u/s on 4/20.

Aha!! I see it now!! Thanks so much for pointing out the parts.

I totally couldn't figure them out either!

Thanks guys! Im seeing an ultrasonographer at the drs office i go to (and used to work for)... but for the life of me don't remember anything about the bladder. THey haven't said anything about it to me now or at my 1st u/s at 6wks (although i did keep a full bladder then just in case-- i really wanted to see that baby!). lol. I may give them a call!

I've never gone with a full bladder and they've never told me I needed to. (Had 1 at 18wks, one at 26wks, one at 32wks)

All my ultrasounds, except 1, have been pretty successful. The one that wasn't I was STARVING... (he was asleep and refused to wake up)

So my recommendation is EAT before you go. They're more likely to be awake and moving around! :thumbsup2
DH keeps joking with me that is why he was licking his lips, we'd just had a yummy lunch at Panera Bread..

great advice. I would never have thought to eat!!

AHH girls... Im 17wks and still dont look a bit more pregnant than I did when I started. I can tell this baby is low... and there is virtually nothing there. Im not a big person either... im pretty small in fact. I keep looking at other boards im on and all the girls seem to be showing some big bumps. I still have my ab line down the middle of my stomach. The only difference is between my belly button and my pubic bone there seems to be a pooch- but nothing pointy or even remotely baby looking. LOL when you said "they're more likely to be awake and moving"... i was like "wow-- im pregnant!". I mean, i know i am and talk about it all the time-- but honestly it never dawned on me that there would be a baby awake or sleeping in there, and one moving around at that!

Has anyone else just not shown or looked to be showing at this far along? I know piecey said she could still be mistaken for not being pregnant... but dang- i feel like im missing something here! Ive stopped worrying about stretch marks because my pooch doesnt look like its growing much. lol

I totally feel let down that I'm not bigger, I won't lie. :rotfl:
I don't *feel* pregnant. I look at other boards (What To Expect) and I'm totally bummed that they're HUGE!

I don't know why, but I've felt him a LOT more lately than I ever have before (I was the one with lots of movement problems, which I guess might have been because he was a breech balled up baby?) and it's really been the first sign that hey.. there is a baby in there! :)

DH laughed at me yesterday because I was supposed to go get a mani/pedi as my birthday treat before the ultrasound.. but he was moving so much I stayed in bed and read a book and enjoyed it. Dorky, but there haven't been a lot of "I'm pregnant!" moments for me and I totally loved feeling him squirming yesterday.

I hope your belly POPS soon..

(ETA- Stretch marks, looking at my pictures, hit at 24wks..)

I'm online researching and comparing Dr.'s... with DH's new job, comes new insurance.. so I'm trying to find a Dr., in the network of an insurance company I don't technically have a policy with yet.. that is accepting new patients and isn't going to retire before Lucas needs to switch Dr.'s.. UGH!
Next, I have to find DH a Dr.!
