Another stupid question...

Is anyone else concerned that they will confuse Braxton hicks with the real contractions????

I never had Braxton Hicks with DS, so I am just wondering since Lauren is having them.

I am.... But generally BHs dont hurt like real contractions. I have had BH's pretty consistently since about 20 weeks or so, and they hurt just a little.. if at all. For me, anyways..

I had mine out when Mikalah was two months old, and its wasnt so bad. It was laproscopic, and the recovery was very short. I only spent the night in the hospital because my surgery was so late in the day. Otherwise I would have gone home that day. I was up walking around holding her in a day or so.

Awesome about staying home! :thumbsup2 I would stay too.. If you are going to get the time off paid and all. They arent going to want it back if you dont go back to work, are they?

Ohh. They told me it wouldn't be done laproscopically? Maybe they meant while I was pregnant?
They told me 1-2 weeks recovery. :scared:
I bet I got it confused with surgery while I was pregnant, though.
Phew. That relieves me a bit. I can deal with my MIL that long. :rotfl:

Nope, because I'll receive benefits "earned" through my 3 month maternity leave... which means I'll have 'worked' the majority of the year (I'd be quitting in September, assuming Lucas doesn't come early which seems unlikely). The only thing "accured" is vacation leave so they might ask for a few days back but I doubt I'll actually be able to take both weeks.. so I'll just start taking an hour here or there of sick leave for my Dr's visits. ;) And my personal days.
And a week's vacation and let them pay me whatever vacation I've got.. which I'd say will be a few days.
I don't think they'd make me pay it back if I took it all, though. Who knows? :upsidedow

Disney Ron,

Workmans Comp? I don't even know what that is, really. I thought that was if you were injured on the job?
My maternity leave is a company "perk" to allow "primary caregivers" to "bond with their new baby" (quoted from the HR paperwork :rotfl: ).. It's 100% employer paid. A pretty awesome benefit, if you ask me!

I'm definitely excited to get the opportunity to stay home with him but more importantly FOCUS ON SCHOOL! I've been working to support myself (tuition/bills/car/school and occassional vacation :thumbsup2 ) since before I graduated high school and as a result, I've never been able to focus on school. I needed the job to pay the tuition so the job came first.
This will allow me to buckle down and finish my degree!! :cheer2:

Also, we figured up after daycare costs, pre-taxes and bonus, I'd make $105/week.
And I drive 30 miles one way to get there... so wear and tear on the car, the gas, the stress, etc. Wasn't worth it.
I'll get to stay home, take care of Lucas, finish school and work on the new house. :upsidedow Soo excited the decision is made!

I can see not doing it lapr. while pregnant. My scars are in my belly button, and a few other places on my belly.. Hard to get to with baby in the way!

Awesome! Enjoy staying home with your baby!! And school, of course!

Disney Ron,

100 % that is an awesome benefit and not very common if you ask me.
Maybe it was disabilty and not workmans comp, I got??? It has been over two years so please forgive me if I am using the wrong term. I do know that is was not 100 %. I want to say I got 60% from state and my company gave another 30%.

Congrats on your decision...you definitely wont regret it.

Another stupid question...

Is anyone else concerned that they will confuse Braxton hicks with the real contractions????

I never had Braxton Hicks with DS, so I am just wondering since Lauren is having them.

My BH contractions have been irregular, painless, just uncomfortable. I feel pressure and tightening of the whole belly. They go away when I lay down or change position. They often occur when I stand up after sitting a while or if I have been walking for a while. My doc says that when I want to know if it's the real thing, the contractions come 5 mins apart, last a minute, and this must go on for an hour. That's all I know!

Hey guys. My appointment was for 5PM today, but they got me in early at 1PM.

Got some pretty bad news...he's measuring over 10 lbs and my doctor really wants me to get a c-section. We talked it over for a long time and I'm going to try induction first and see what happens...with the knowledge that if at any point she thinks something is wrong, I have to go in for an immediate c/s.

Unfortunately his belly is measuring bigger than his head, so she's worried about shoulder dystocia or worse. They panic a little more with me because I've already lost a child.

So, I go in Thursday morning at 7 AM and we will see what happens. (Thursday, because that is the first date my doctor is available and if there is going to be a problem, then I definitely want her to deliver me).

Feeling a little stressed....as if I wasn't before :thumbsup2

I'm sorry you got such bad news today, Lisa. I hope you're able to give birth with the induction and the measurements are off. I am glad they're keeping a good eye on you and the baby. The most important thing is that you have a healthy son, no matter how he comes into the world.

Definitely not common. I was shocked when I read the policy. I never imagined i'd get anything, but I guess that is what some of the perks are for working for a HUGE company. We're in the US Top Fortune 15, so...

They also mailed me a safety kit for our house (with latches for cabinets, emergency phone number pouch, a thingie that if "something fits inside, the baby can choke", poison stickers, outlet covers, etc) and an infant kit with information about the company lactation program and a baby name book! :thumbsup2

Okay, random question time.

Does anyone here drive a mid-size car and have a car seat? Right now, we only have DH's truck and my Grand Am. So the Grand Am will be the only car we can transport baby in.

Reading reviews for car seats, etc.. a few people have mentioned having issues fitting their car seat in the backseat without having to put the passenger seat all the way up and even then it being tight. Now I'm worried about running into this problem. I'm looking at Graco Travel Systems or buying stuff seperately, the SnugRide 32 in particular.

Just wondering if anyone can share some wisdom for a mid-size car and carseat space.

I brought both my older kids home from the hospital in a Ford Escort.. TINY! Just pt the car seat in the center, and you are good to go. :thumbsup2

Okay.
That seems so logical, I can't see why people complained on reviews about it.
Yet, it didn't hit me either. :rotfl:

Ugh. There is so much out there!
I've been looking at travel systems the last hour or so. Originally, I was going to buy seperate.. but now I don't know!

Eeek..

I drive a Toyota Camry. They infant carseat we use is the graco travel system and it fits no problem. Now DS has a Britax Marathon, this is a big carseat. The britax also fits with no problem, I am noticing DS feet now starting to hit the passenger seat but that is it.

DH's car is a Ford Taurus and we fit the infant carrier just fine in the middle. The convertible we have in there is a cheapie Cosco one that you do need to push the passanger seat up when it was backwards.

It sounds like you work for a great company!

When we moved to St. Petersburg, Madeline was 3 months old so I had not gone back to work yet. I did look for a job and looked at daycare options for her. But I preferred an in home day care and not being from the area I didn't know anyone for references to find a good one. After looking at the costs of daycare and what my salary would be, we decided that I should be a SAHM. I do miss my job from time to time but I don't regret the decision to be a SAHM.

We had a Graco travel system with Madeline and I put her infant carrier/car seat in the middle of the backseat as well-but we have a full size truck. But it is easier to have them in the middle anyway.

Now I have to find a new infant carrier to fit the Sit n Stand stroller I just bought.

A cautionary tale RE "Braxton Hicks" -- When I had my son at 26 1/2 weeks, I must have been in labor a whole night, not knowing it. I felt a bit odd, tired and was getting a painless "tightening" across my belly. I never imagined that they were contractions, they didn't hurt. Everything I'd ever read, said that contractions hurt. I went to bed early & when I got up in the morning, there was blood. I freaked out.

By the time I got to the hospital, around 9AM & got checked I was 6 cm dialated. My son was born by 1:30. SOOOOO, just know that for some women, even painless contractions can be causing cervical changes, if you are not yet at or near term, don't feel foolish about calling your care provider & asking to be checked, much much better to get checked and be fine, than to have a critically ill premature newborn in the NICU. Trust me.

That's my PSA

Very good point! Productive labor contractions may not hurt. I was told by my doctor last November (before I started having them) if I had contractions that didn't go away, that I was to call them. Apparently it's the regularity of the contractions that is the telltale sign, not the pain. BH contractions are still contractions. After all, I have dilated since last week, but haven't had any pain.

My contractions for DD#2 felt like gas pains. I felt like I needed to use the bathroom all day long. I didn't feel what I would have considered real contractions until 7:30 PM, I was fully dialated when I got to the hospital, and DD was born at 9:40 PM.

Good luck to all you ladies! :flower3:

Thanks for the tips, guys.

It's all starting to overwhelm me a bit... we have a ton of work to do and decisions to make!

Hope everyone is having a great day.

In less than 24 hours I will know if we are having a boy or girl:cheer2: ... that is if the Dr. isn't running to late at 9:00 a.m.

I to have been looking at travel systyem. I am torn between to Graco Travel system sport and Chicco Cortina 30lb travel system. I have only seen the Chicco in person and what I like about it is the way it folds up. Very easy. And the handles. Hope to give the Graco a test drive this weekend.

I don't know anything about the Chicco, but I can tell you my Graco travel system takes up almost all of my Camry's trunk when folded and weighs a ton.
This is the one we have... http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2400883&camp=PPC:281591626

I googled the Chicco Cortina 30lb, I like the look of it.

So guess what?! I woke up this morning with flipping pink eye!!! DH has had it for a couple of days, so I figured it was coming, but still...just when you think you really can't catch much else, bam!
So I went to the dr AGAIN (4th time in 10 days!) and she prescribed some drops that are cat B.

Get to the pharmacy and they tell me that the drops are brand spanking new and no one has them yet. So I may or may not get them tomorrow. They may have to give me something else. I just want something to make me less contagious for all the kids I'm around at work. I am NOT taking any sick time because of pink frigging eye.

I hope everyone is having a better day!
