Newest "Moms to Be" Thread

I'm surprised to hear that any GPs in the states are still delivering babies. Here there are only certain areas-the larger cities-that have OBs, and they are the only ones who will handle a pregnancy or delivery. Also, only a few hospitals have maternity wards and deliver babies. Unless it is an emergency and you are about to deliver on the floor, most hospitals won't touch you! Here, Flowood is the area in the central part of the state where you find most OBs-their offices are all right around Woman's Hospital, where most babies are delivered. For people with no insurance and low income, OBs come to the health depts a few times a month, and the babies are delivered in the University Hospital in Jackson. I can't think of anyone I know that had a baby at somewhere other than those 2 places.

Wow, thats crazy to me.
There are 4 hospitals within a half hour here, all deliver babies. I can pick any of them to deliver at but only three are "Premium Care Providers" on my Insurance and I chose the Catholic hospital right up the street for proximity (and it's where I was born :goodvibes )

I can't imagine driving that far. If I were to drive an hour I'd probably hit at least 4-6 more places I could deliver at.
Fascinating how different it is, even state-to-state.
And this is West Virginia. The wild and wonderful rural state and I've got more choices than you. Crazy!

Hey ladies! Wish me luck tonight! I have a doctor's appointment at 7PM (very weird time) and I'm praying that there is at least some dilation. There had better be with all the cramping and contractions I've been having. :thumbsup2
Good luck!!!:cool1:
Is this where I introduce myself? I used to be pretty active on these boards until a couple of years ago. I'm Melessa, I'm already mom to four ranging in ages from 4-11. I found out recently that our family is getting a "bonus baby" around August 6, 2009. DH and I are more than a little stunned, but we've decided there are far worse "surprises" in life than this one. So far, I'm not as ill as I have been in previous 1st trimesters and I feel it the most in the evening instead of during the day which I can definitely live with since by then I've already gone to work, driven the carpool, and usually have dinner in progress. It's nice to meet you all and good to be DISing again.

Hello!! and congrats!!

Yeah... I dont think I can throw a rock out my window without hitting a hospital I can deliver at. :lmao: The hospital in my immediate town doesnt do OB.. but it is part of a network that does have OB. The hospital I will deliver at is maybe 10 minutes away, but there are probably... Jeez... A dozen or so in either direction of my house... Probably more, because I believe I am less then an hour away from Seattle.

I think this is the longest I've ever seen the list!!!:goodvibes

Well, the verdict is in:

1 cm dialated
50% effaced
-2 station

Not quite what I was looking for, but at least it's something!

I had my first trip to L&D last night. My contractions wouldnt stop no matter what, and it freaked my husband out enough to drag my butt in. Of course, once I go there.... no contractions. They checked to see if I was dilated... and I wasnt.. But my cervix is softening. :confused3 Not sure what that even means. But.... I came home with two babies still inside my belly, so all is well. :thumbsup2

Good luck!!!:cool1:

Hello!! and congrats!!

:welcome: MelessaG :welcome:

Thanks to you both! I'm glad to see one of you is making progress and that the other still has two babies IN her belly. I've been pretty mum about this pregnancy with friends and family (since I'm a little older and my symptoms are milder than normal, I want to know there is a heartbeat before I tell relatives or my younger kids-just in case) so it's nice to be talking about it here.

We were cautious this time, too. Only dh and I knew until after my 1st appt at 7 wks. We told the kids that night, then I "let" them call our parents! I didn't want to deal with my mother! She is great about it now, but I got just the reaction I thought I would at first:mad: . Of course, once the kids knew, everyone knew! I teach, so there is no keeping secrets at school. I got really sick the end of that week, and I'm still not over it, so I couldn't have kept it secret any longer anyway.

Wow, busy night last night.

I'm glad the twins are still hanging out! :teeth:

I found out today that a woman on a committee that I serve on is pregnant too and we're due the same day! It's so cool to know someone IRL that's going through the same thing. She's dealing with the really bad ms too.

I think I had a new breakthrough yesterday. I felt bad all day, which is unusual for me, I'm usually only bad at night. On the way home from work at 5, my body forced me to stop and get a big chicken sandwich. I had no desire to eat, but for some reason the sandwich sounded good. So I ate the gigantic thing and felt better! I obviously hadn't been eating enough. So today I'm going to try and eat bigger items instead of snacking like a bird to see if that helps. Wish me luck!

Hope everyone has an awesome NYE! DH got me sparkling grape juice, so that I could participate with the toast. He's such a sweetie sometimes.

Good luck! That's only a little early. We are due a couple of days after you and nothing going on as of yesterday's doctor's visit.

My wife requested an ultrasound for the visit next week to check on the baby's size. She keep worrying about the baby being my size at birth, 10 pounds 5 ounces.

I am so glad everything is ok! Did they say how much your cervix has softened?

Eating constantly was the only thing that "helped" my morning sickness. Probably why I gained so much in the 1st trimester.:lmao: Keeping food in my stomach all day was very helpful. I actually feel like 1st tri. all over again today. I am exhausted and nauseous and had a really bad headache. Hey, I paid my dues for almost 4 months...please don't bring it back!:rotfl:

I won't go this early. After all of the protective measures taken earlier in the pregnancy to keep my kids in, they have to be induced at 40+ weeks. My goal with this pregnancy is to go into labor on my own. :goodvibes

Don't worry too much about the baby's size! Ultrasounds are rarely correct at this point in the pregnancy. They were way off with my last pregnancy and I had u/s's every 2 weeks on a very high tech machine.

I'll be 37 by the time this one comes. Granted, I was "done" at 32. Apparently, this little one thought he or she would just sneak in under the radar.

Welcome to the "advanced maternal age" club...gosh, I hate hearing that :rotfl: !!! Our welcomed surprised got in under the radar too.

Yeah, that's one I'm not looking forward to hearing either. Though I am amused that, in addition to nausea, I'm having a ton of hot flashes with this pregnancy. I guess our little bonus baby is prepping me for things to come in the not-too-distant future.

I hope it's just a fluke for you!

The eating constantly thing definitely didn't help before this--I tried it, but the whole thing seems to change daily lately. Somedays I feel great almost all day, some days it just the evenings. My problem is I have absolutely no desire to eat at all---but a BLT sounds good...lol! :lmao: That came outta of nowhere...

I will be 40 when this one is born... let's not rush the "not-too-distant future"!:rotfl: I have been feeling alot more things than I did with DS. Headaches, hot flashes, MS anytime of the day, moodiness (my poor DH), and dizzyness. All worth it in the long run.

Oh yes, I can relate to the headaches and dizziness. I used to think those old movies with swooning pregnant ladies were silly, but now I can relate to them. And my DH would probably agree that I'm moody too, but he would never say so in front of me. ;) (Poor guy)

Dh has no problem telling me I'm moody-but I have no problem telling him this was his idea! Neither of my dr's (my original one stopped doing OB in Nov, so I got a new one in Dec) has made a big deal over my age, other than pointing out I'm AMA, and pointing out the added Downs risk. They didn't push any testing, and I haven't had any done.

I've had a few of the dizzy spells too! Not too much fun. And hot flashes. Dh is keeping a blanket on the couch. But I've only vomited once in the last 4 days! Maybe 20 wks was the magic number for me!

Hello and welcome MelessaG! I hope all you ladies who have morning sickness get rid of it soon.

I got a maternity massage this morning--present from DH. Very relaxing. I didn't want it to end. :cloud9:
