"Newest" Moms Hangout... take 2!

I've been away wayyyy too long! We got the house back in June and are STILL moving in (garage looks like a storage unit - we are bringing stuff in little by little). I hope everyone is well! I hope to be joining in more around here again!

I love the play kitchens! I can't wait to get one for Carys when she is old enough. Maybe for next Christmas! so cute :goodvibes

She loves Elmo so I will probably get her a couple Elmo things and I got a couple toys when Target had their 75% clearance at the end of summer so I think I might be pretty set for her.

We went to the Halloween storytime at Barnes and Noble yesterday. It was fun. I know that she is still kind of young for that ( I can't believe that she will be 8 months old this week!) but it was fun to be around other kids. They read the Splat the Cat Halloween story and the lady that read it was dressed like Snow White. A lot of the kids were dressed in costume. I wish I had thought of that and I would have dressed Carys in her costume! As it is I don't know how much wear she is going to get out of it. It's not like we are going to go trick or treating... I think we are going to take her over to my mom's house that night but then right back home to get ready for bed  not much of a first Halloween.

edit: are you guys getting the flu shot? just curious... I got it last year when I was pregnant with the whole H1N1 scare, haven't gotten it yet this year

I get a flu shot EVERY year... I already got my flu shot this year. It was really important to me this year because Brynn is too young to get one and the last thing I want to do is pass the flu onto her!

We're all getting flu shots around here. The twins got their first dose last well visit, they'll be due for the 2nd dose mid Nov. ODS already got his. DH's work usually holds a free flu shot clinic, so he'll probably do that. That leaves me, I'll probably stop in at one of the pharmacies or Walmart while they are doing flu shots.

Adi, we moved in September, and I had these grand ideas that I would be totally unpacked by the end of September....my new grand idea is to be totally unpacked by the end of the year!!!

LOL - My **new** goal is Thanksgiving - but it BETTER be done by Christmas, lol. If I did not have a baby I am SURE I'd be done - I am usually FAST at unpacking. BUT boy does this LO keep me busy!

I'm usually the odd man out when it comes to vaccines around here (we delayed starting them, and am using a delayed version of Dr. Sears' vaccine schedule) - and I'm fine with that - but I don't think we will be doing flu shots - unless the doctor tells me they are really needed. When I was in college/grad school I got it because I have compromised immunity (had cancer - lots of my lymph nodes were removed. . .) - but since I am currently staying at home I think it may not be necessary.

Natalie already got her flu shot a couple of weeks ago. I still need to get mine.

Hope everyone is having a great day:thumbsup2

Well, so much for me calling Elliott Chunky Monkey! He had his 9 month checkup yesterday. He is 29 1/2 inches long (87th percentile), and only 19 pounds 13 ounces (38th percentile!). I thought he would weigh at least 21 pounds! Got two shots yesterday and a finger poke. He actually only cried for about 30 seconds after the shots. He did well!

So since he has passed 29 inches, I am going out car seat shopping for him today. 29 inches is the maximum length for his infant car seat.

No flu shots here ever since I got a Guillian-Barre variant in 2004 after my flu shot. I'm pretty scared to let my kids get one because what if for some reason my reaction to it is somehow hereditary?

You can still call him a chunky monkey if you hold him next to Scarlett. At her 9 month appt she was 27 inches and 15 lbs, 4oz. So about the 35th for height, 3rd for weight. She's about the size my others were at 5-6 months!

Regarding the carseat, as long as the top of his head is more than an inch below the top of the seat (and of course his weight is in line with the recs), you an still use the seat. The height is a guideline, but some kids have longer legs than others, so they could be 34 inches and still fit in the seat, while others have longer torsos. Just wanted to throw it out there in case you haven't found a carseat you like, or want to shop around more for a sale or something. My BIL is a car seat tech so I get a lot of random car seat info. ;)

We moved here on 7/26 (though our moving truck didn't arrive till 8/9) and we're still not totally unpacked either. I am really close, but we have been doing a lot of renovations so that delays things. Like I unpacked all the kids stuff for their rooms and most of the playroom, but then we pulled out all the old carpeting in those rooms and put in wood floors. So that meant all their furniture and stuff (and they have so much stuff!!) had to be repacked and moved out of their rooms into the living room. Then we did the same thing in the master bedroom. When that was finished will pulled out all of the flooring in the main living areas of the house (so the kitchen, family room, dining room, entryway, etc.) and we're installing travertine. So right now we have literally nothing in any of those rooms, it all had to be repacked and stuffed into our room, the office, the kids rooms, or the hallway to their rooms. It's crazy. And we thought they would finish Friday, but we're doing an inset to box out the dining room and the corner pieces didn't match up with the straight edges, so we are waiting for them to reorder the correct parts. Which means they can't seal the floor at all, which means no moving our stuff back. It's a huge pain, particularly with my mom visiting right now and my SIL coming on Thursday. We can only eat meals outside for the time being, which is generally okay since the weather here is really nice right now, but also kind of a pain in that it's simply inconvenient.

But once they seal the floors, all we have left to do is paint and we're pretty much set and ready to totally unpack and live here!

Flu shots: We all got them already, EXCEPT my husband, who is the #1 person in our household who should get one, but he "forgets" everyday. I am done reminding him, if he wants to get the flu then so be it. Last year he did the same thing, kept forgetting to get the flu shot at work, contracted the flu while working at Children's Hospital, then was so, so sick for days. So he should have learned his lesson. And if he gets the flu now, the kids and I are seriously going to a hotel cause even though Scarlett got the flu shot, I do not want to chance her catching it cause she's so young and already freakishly thin so I don't want her losing more weight.

I hope everyone had a great Halloween! We finished up the holiday festivities with the 4th round of trick or treating tonight. We went to a friend's house and walked with a mob of about 15-20 kids for an hour or so. We have more candy here than any of us need!

Hope everyone had a good Halloween! Here is Carys in her butterfly costume! :goodvibes

We didn't go out trick or treating, but my mom and sister came to the house to see her and she stayed up a little later than usual to see some trick or treaters come to the house. She tolerated the costume well. We didn't get as many trick or treaters as usual so I made DH take the rest of the candy to work today so it wouldn't be in the house :lmao:

I ended up getting the flu shot. I thought it would be best. So now DH and I have had it. We'll see if we get sick. That's the true test.

It's getting so cold out now. We're bundling up every time we go out! brrrrr!!!

Hope everyone had a great Halloween. We had OVER 1300 Trick or Treaters. That's right, not a type-o 1,300 children came to our house. We ran out of candy at 8 pm. It was insane!!!!! The weather was so nice, I think that had something to do with it. We took Natalie to a few houses then we just sat on the porch and handed out candy. She loved looking at everybody. A fun night for all.

:goodvibes

Rach...go with whatever you like best, and what is comfortable for baby. I would suggest at that age no more than two outfits. Overalls, while totally cute, are hard to get to photograph nice on a little one that isn't sitting well (they tend to bunch). Can you tell I used to work at a portrait studio?? 12 years working at my local Sears Portrait Studio!

Elliott is getting his 9 month pictures taken this week. I have two outfits for him. He is wearing his Packers jersey, jeans, and Air Jordans (if I can get them on his feet!) for some, and his other outfit is brown checked overalls with a light blue shirt. Hopefully he does as well as he did at his 6 month pictures. Took us about 7 minutes, and that included changing his outfit!!

Thanks for the help. I had an outfit besides the dress for our family pictures all pick out and then DH said "She isnt wearing that." I guess he is picking out her outfit. (After I typed this, today when DH got home he picked out the same outfit I had and said have her wear this. LOL) I was also hoping to get pictures done in just little blommers (sp?) and no top. So since that isnt really an outfit do you think that will be ok???

What Elliott has to wear sounds so cute!!!

We didnt go ToTing and we dont have any come to our house because we live way out. So we went to a festival on Saturday so Annabelle could wear her costume. Here are some pictures:

Hope everyone's Halloween was spooktacular! We didn't have a ton of trick-or-treaters, but Brynn enjoyed seeing the ones we did have! Here are Brynn's two costumes.

Hi All - new to the thread - I have a 3 week old peanut named Danielle (Dani) - today was just my third day "alone" with her - I remain apprehensive about caring for her while DH is at work - it is so much easier to deal with fussing when we can pass her off to each other - last week had family (my sister) visiting so I got spoiled getting mostly full night sleep etc...

Any advice from you experienced mama's on how to get into a routine - I mean of course she eats every 3 hours or so but how did you get into a daily routine of balancing life (chores, meals, etc) with baby duties....I can't believe maternity leave is 1/2 over and I haven't done anything yet - I mean i still feel like I have no clue - like each day I'm just treading water.....

Thanks

Great pictures! Here are two of Elliott! He did really well wearing his costume!!

Funny thing, too. I lit the candles in our pumpkins at 4 on Halloween. When I left for work on Monday morning...they were still lit (keep in mind these were 2 inch pillar candles from Walmart, $1.50 each!). Came home from work and teaching dance classes Monday night at about 7...candles in the pumpkins were still going!!! Went to bed last night at about 10....STILL lit! They must have burnt out overnight, because they were not still lit this morning. Could not believe it! Must have been the cold, been getting down to about 27 here at night. I sure got my money's worth on them!

Sarah was Cinderella for halloween. She did super well in the costume. She didn't even fuss with her crown.

Here's my take on it:

Treading water is a success and should be viewed as such. If you are treading water, you're not drowning.

The rest will come in time. As she gets older, the two of you will for the most part figure out nap scheduling. You should consider using nap time as 'mommy get's a breather' time, however. Chores get done before the baby awakes in the morning or after bedtime or not at all. Remember to make 'not at all' a viable option.

Cute costumes! Our computer broke last week so we just got a new one yesterday, so I haven't put any photos on it yet. Maybe I'll try that later and get some Halloween pictures up.

Tigger - Those are some candles! The wind here would have likely blown ours out way faster, though our temps are much higher. It's so weird to me that it's 85 degrees and sunny in November! I am so used to the northeast weather and just can't believe that Thanksgiving is coming up already!

Dizluvah - It just takes time to get into a routine. The more days you're alone with the baby, the easier it will get. 3 week olds are rarely in any sort of routine, but to prepare for going back to work, I would start to figure out a good bedtime and start a routine around that. Obviously she'll still wake up overnight to eat, but if you get a bedtime routine in place it will give her some consistency and an idea that overnight is different than the days. And the same in the morning. Even if you're chilling in the house all day, I always found it was best if we stuck to getting up at the same time and getting the baby dressed for the day. Just sorta set the pattern that waking up for the day is different than the overnight feeds.

This isn't really the correct thread for this, but it looks like Boy-To-Be-Named-At-A-Later-Date will be coming sooner than his 12/3 due date. Cathy's uric acid count was high on Friday and yesterday. It's pretty likely that they'll end up going in to get him within the next week.

Cathy is bummed because 1) She wants the bun to stay in the oven until is is completely baked and 2) because she really, really, really didn't want to have to go through another C-section.

Sbell - I didn't know you were having another baby, so congrats! Sorry about the uric acid levels. Does your wife have hypertension too? Or is the uric acid the only symptom as of now? My son was a 36 weeker and he's a healthy 4yo now, so tell your wife not to worry too much. And since they are planning for taking him early, they can give her surfactant shots to build up his lungs and test to be sure he's ready. I hear her on not wanting another c-section, it's a huge deciding factor for me regarding having a 4th kid, but was her dr willing to let her try a VBAC just a year after the c-section? I know my old OB had said I could have a VBAC for a 4th, but only if there's a space of at least 18 months. But ya know what, Scarlett was a CS after 2 regular deliveries, so you really never know anyway, even if she had gone into labor on her own. Good luck!
