Newer park "additions" -- too gaudy and ugly?

OK, maybe I'm just a grump (I'm sure there are many who think this!), but anyone else think that the hand with the wand and the "Epcot" over Spaceship Earth is ugly?
Not at all. Before the magic wand, I feel that part of the park was way too sterile. Now it is clear that you're at a theme park, not a college campus.

And the giant Socerer's Hat in the front of The Great Movie Ride just sticks out like a sore thumb.
I think it is great. D-MGM was created back when there was a thought that people might want to go to Walt Disney World and NOT have to be reminded Disney Disney Disney. That has changed, and I for one am happy to see more and more overt nods to the fact that we're visiting the Mouse's house!

The gaudiest, cheapest looking addition is by far the carnival in Dino-land at AK.
I was never a big fan of kvitch, but Dino-land really works, IMHO. It's supposed to look gaudy, but does so in a very classy way -- perfect Disneyfication of something which, back in the day (and I speak from experience) was actually rather seedy. This clean, colorful version of the past is right-on-the-money for me.

And it doesn't need to go with any other part of the park. The park is a series of lands. While Africa and Asia are very similar, that, in itself, is a problem, IMHO. As far as I am concerned, the whole point of having different "lands" in each park is diversity, not to have different shades of the same color.

By far, the most gaudy and ugly thing they EVER did at WDW was that pink birthday cake over the Castle.
I couldn't agree more. That was pretty bad.

O.K....I know I'm alone on this one but I love the Epcot wand, love the hat (always though the Mann's Chinese Theater was a bit borning, seen the real deal in LA), love Dinoland Carnival (love kitsch), and I loved...perish the thought...the Birthday Castle. I think it's great when WDW does something fun with one of their "cherished" institutions. It was pure fun for the birthday celebration. I know that there are also many Disney purists out there who don't like the new design of Tomorrowland when it was changed to Jules Verne's "Fantasy Future". I love that too! I'm as big a Disney fan as anyone out there and I hope that WDW continues to push the levels of fun (and taste) forever!

I love the hand above Spaceship Earth, I think it looks really nice. And I also like the Sorceror's hat, I just wish they would have put it somewhere else.

I love the wand, have no opinion on the hat, appreciate the campiness of Dinoland (but not the carny games), but what I REALLY hate are those horrible "Leave a Legacy" monolith things!!! My apologies to everyone here who's --ahem-- left their legacy, but those things are AWFUL. Talk about messing up traffic flow, too ... I really wish they'd disappear.

Absolutely! Those things need to be arranged somewhere that looks nicer and doesn't mess with the traffic flow. :rolleyes1
