Hoping to plan a trip to New York next December prob 27th Dec to 3rd Jan.
Flights will not be available for about another 5 weeks, but what i wanted info on was where to stay, i.e Times Square etc and any recommendations would be good.

depends on your budget. the renaissance times square and marriott marquis are both great. we ducked into the doubletree a couple of weeks ago just to use the facilities and it looked very nice. so does the W.

Have not set a budget, but looking at prices probably upto $300 or $400, preferrably cheaper if possible. saw a few going on this years prices , anything from $190 up, just need recommendations.
will have a look at those hotels see prices , thankyou

nothing to add other than I WISH I could go to NYC. My husband tells me he has some friends up there who would welcome us with open arms... but I think I'd feel a little odd staying in someones place (who I've never met) with our kid. I don't even know if I want to brave that place with our angel. I want to go there with the husband alone the first time then take our daughter once we've been there and know a little more.
I'm a very small town kind of girl and have never been to a city bigger than Houston. LOVE Houston, but geez it's big! I think I'd be a little scared of New York =)

Know what you mean about big, but here in Ireland everything is quite small, we live in a relatively small town, and Belfast is not that big either with less than 300,000 people., compared with cities in the US.
probably not be back to NY if we get, so take our DD with us.

I've stayed in three places while visiting NYC.

1. The Marriot Marquis is by far the best (and probably most expensive),
2. The Milford Plaza - nice but rooms were very small - pretty reasonable price-wise. They were renovating this year - not sure when they are to open again; and
3. Stayed here December 2010 - Hotel Edison - it was ok - rooms were much bigger, but if you go on their website and look at the pictures - they are not the rooms I saw! There were several of us so we had about 4 rooms on different floors and of course we were very nosy and had to look in each other's rooms. None looked like the photos from the website. One thing I looked for here (to make sure there were none) were bed bugs and did not find one, nor did I find evidence of any.

we stayed at Hilton Garden Inn and really liked the hotel and location! We stayed on points and think they are usually in the high 200s. One bonus: you have Pigalle right downstairs!!!!

The big problem is if you have not yet booked your hotel, anything for the Times Square area for New Year's Eve is (a) probably already booked for next year, and (b) very expensive with no discounts.

And NYC will be PACKED - a sea of people, that whole week

Do Not mind crowds.
Not to worried about booking yet as flights not available , but some places here in the UK have Flight & Hotel breaks, very good rates this year, one was for Waldorf Astoria, which booking separate was quite expensive, but the deal with the flights from here was $2700 including all taxes and flights, booking my flights separatley was coming out at that, so basically hotel would be free.
Just need to keep list of hotels and see what the best way to book is.

Hey, this thread is good for my future travel research!

I would want to be right on Times Square if and when we visit NYC.
It would be a short visit, and we would not want to have to travel around to and from the hotel.

Have thought about the Millenium Broadway.
They are often on TravelZoo.

Should I look at one or two of other Hotels mentioned???

Again, looking to be on Times Square.

Thanks! :goodvibes

The Waldorf Astoria is beautiful!

I agree with a previous poster that Times Square over New Years will be pretty much untouchable. It would probably be better to stay a bit away from Times Square. You can go and deal with the massive crowds when you want but can also get away from them when you want, you know?
