New York - Eating & Shopping Tips Please!

Well, I'm off to New York for the first time ever with my friend for 4 nights in December and we're VERY excited!!

So, I'm looking to you lot who know the City well for any really good hints and tips of places to eat and shop. We plan on some serious shopping and would love to know where the bargains are also some fun/good places to have some food/drink!

We were thinking of going to somewhere one night with a bit of life - a bar with live music or a club? We're not youngsters (sadly!!) anymore - just two young at heart girls (late 30s) who are leaving the humdrum of kids and housework for a few days, and don't want anything too 'wild' or trendy but somewhere fun - anyone out there with any bright ideas?
