We will be in NYC for 3 nights in mid August. My 20 year old DD needs to check out NYU for her Master's degree and we want to go see Spamalot and Wicked. DS, 17, is just going along so he can visit Dorney, SFGA and a few other thrill rides parks.

Can anyone suggest a fun hotel in NYC that is close to Broadway?
We will be driving, so it needs to have some sort of a parking garage.

Thanks!!!

DD & I stayed at the Marriott Marquis when in NYC last year. Perfect location & got it on Priceline for $150/night!

A bit OT, but you may want to go ahead and get your Wicked tickets from Ticketmaster if you have not. We got ours for late July a month ago and the pickings were getting slim.

I live a short train ride away from NYC so I've never needed a hotel. Sorry.

But I have some not so good news.
Do you currently have tickets to Spamalot? If not, sorry to burst your bubble, but you have a better chance of winning the lottery than getting tickets last minute. I've been trying for months. :( If you do have tickets, then you are a very lucky person! I've heard it is hilarious.

Have fun in NYC!

They are available on the Spamalot website. I just checked and purchased 4 tickets in Row F. It didn't seem to be an issue.

Is your daughter a big reader? The Library Hotel is EXPENSIVE but wickedly cool: http://www.libraryhotel.com/index.shtml

Looking for immaculately clean but cheap, centrally located, the "little hidden jewel" that lots of us use to shelter our extended families when they visit? :) The Portland Square Hotel: http://www.portlandsquarehotelnewyork.com/?gclid=CPbsju2utYQCFQ6GHgodg1uR9w

Another relatively cheap, clean choice with lots of history. The Wolcott Hotel: http://www.wolcott.com/

Super hot place, incredible sights and scene, pricey but not in that grabbing-at-your-palpitating-heart kind of New York City way. The Hudson Hotel: http://www.hudsonhotel.com/?
SO MUCH FUN. Your daughter will be dazzled.

Oooh! Lots to look at. Thank you so much!

Ditto. I stayed there several years ago for a business conference. It's a nice hotel right in the heart of Times Square.

We have stayed at the Crown Plaza and the Doubletree Suites before...both are right in Times Square area.

My DD just returned from NYC on a class trip. They stayed at the Skyline Hotel. Apparently, it wasn't "that great" but it was in a good location for everything they were doing (a few shows and many drama workshops).

Also, they saw Hairspray and Alter Boyz when they were there. All the kids seemed to LOVE Alter Boyz the best. You might want to check it out if you have time.

The nice thing about the city's Marriott hotels is that the rooms are much larger than most of the other area hotels. Even though the rooms may be a bit pricier, you have a little room to breathe, and you all would fit in one room, unlike the standard rooms at a hotel like the Hudson, which the rooms are about the size of a walk in closet. You'd have to either get 2 rooms or a suite at a price that would make you faint. We just moved from NYC in December and have been back a couple times since. Both times, we stayed at the Marriott East Side. It's a great, comfortable hotel with plenty of room for everyone and it's less expensive than the other Marriotts in the city. The walk to Times Square isn't bad either.

Yep. My DD said the room at the Skyline was small and they had 4 girls to a room and it was a MESS.

Thanks. It is really difficult to find a hotel room in NYC that can fit two adults and two grown teens! I will check into the Marriott and any other suggestions that popped up.

I've gotten my tickets for both Wicked and Spamalot and am quite happy with the seat selection. I'm going to check out Alter Boyz. It looks interesting!

Hope you got them! :wizard: I noticed many of the dates in our time frame are now sold out and the brokers are asking at least 2-3 times the face value! :smooth: Glad we got ours when we did. :)

Oops-we were posting at the same time! Glad to see you got them. I can't wait to see Wicked! Have fun planning, I am enjoying it! :)

We stayed at the Times Square Hilton for $140 a night. (Booked it on Priceline). It is in Times Square (hence the name) and was a short walk to the theatres. It was very modern and the rooms were big (huge by NY standards). I highly reccomend it.

I'm a Priceline devotee and there are some great deals on NY hotels on Priceline. Check out betterbidding.com and biddingfortravel.com for info about bidding on NY hotels.

The problem I am having with Priceline/hotwire and NYC is that so many of the hotel rooms are too small for a family of 4 but it is impossible to tell which room you are going to get.

It looks like I am probably going to have to get 2 rooms and end up spending way more than I thought.

Has anyone stayed at the Belvedere? It looks pretty cheap and is 3 star rated.

I have stayed with my family many times at the MARRIOTT MARQUIS!! It is a great location and right in the HEART of Times Square.

Also, always try EBAY for show tickets. They always have a good selection.

:thumbsup2

We go to NYC every summer with our two teens. THEY love the W in Times Square (funky, movie star kind of place), WE love the Westin in Times Sq. (close to everything but surprisingly very quiet). Both are Starwood resorts which we stick with. We've tried the Sheraton and it's fine but not as nice as either of the above.

I had some friends stay there when they were visiting us, but that was about 5 years ago. The rooms were getting a little tired at the time so unless they have renovated recently, it's probably pretty run down. I do, however, remember that they stayed in one of the suites there and the room was pretty big, so you've got it covered there...
