Here's my 2 cents:
Best places we ate- take the subway to Greenwich Village and eat at Peanut Butter & Co. We had the neatest pb&j shakes & sandwiches there- so different.
Our favorite restaurant was inside the MetLife building (don't remember street). We had a steak and salad dinner for 2 and it was heaven. We just stumbled upon it so I can't remember it's name- sorry.
We also ate at Gallagher's Steakhouse (oldest in the country we were told) and it was cool, nothing spectacular but we did see and get Jackie Mason's autograph!
We were told the best hot dogs were at Gray's Papaya so we took a cab all the way over there and we thought they were horrible! They were crunchy! And believe me, we're hot dog people through and through. And the special punch they serve was awful too IMO.
Also, we took a very expensive cab ride out to Monk's restaurant (the Seinfeld restaurant) and it was a boring disappointment. Don't bother...
Ground Zero was touching- we were there 6 months after 9/11...
On that note, if you go to see Ground Zero, take the 1 hour boat cruise out to the Statue of Liberty. It was about $15 and it was the best thing we did all week. We got to stand at the front of the boat all by ourselves and got the most beautiful panoramic pictures of the skyline. Have fun!
