I'll be in orlando 12/30 - 1/9. I will be going to wdw and would like to know which wdw park is the LEAST crowded during the day and evening on 12/31. I have park hopper passes, rental car, 2 kids, and will be staying OFF property.
would appreciate advice or ideas on this topic.

thanks,
can't wait til disney!!:bounce:

they will all be packed...if you are wish to be at a park for midnight on nye then i would suggest getting to that park in the morning and staying put...i don't think it would be a good idea to do any park hopping that day...
we will also be in the "world" for nye and are planning to spend the day/night in mgm...
fyi...animal kingdom will not be open much past 6pm and will not be available for you to ring in the new year...
have fun and see you there!!!

We have been told by some friends that go every year for New Year's Eve that whatever park you wish to be at that night.........
Get there early. They wanted MK and at 10:00 a.m. they closed the MK due to it being full. They camp out all day, and take their time doing things. They said you will get tired, but it's worth it.
I will say that they stayed at the Poly last year, and about 6:30 they had enough and went back to the room and watched everything from their room. They said it was neat but not the same.

I hope this helps,
Wendi

When we went there were two firework shows at Epcot, and many people with kids went home after the first one, so you could probably catch the late fireworks there.

They did close Epcot early in the day, when it was filled to capacity, and fast passes for the good rides were gone before 10 a.m.

I am wondering how crowded the Boardwalk is on NYE, and if we could watch the fireworks from there.

We were there the last two years on NYE, and I would say that probably MGM/studios was the least crowded of the parks. We were not brave enough to try MK, and although Epcot is huge, world showcase was still wall - to -wall. And the lines for the women's bathrooms were over 1/2 hour long, so try not to drink to many liquids that night!!

We will be at BWV this NYE but have to run a few folks to the airport in the AM. We wanted to go to EPCOT for NYE but MGM would be fine also. If we dont get back from MCO until 1PM or so are we guaranteed entry to one of the 3 parks because we are staying on site? Would EPCOT be the most likely still available?

In the thread I linked to above, Tyler (a WDW bus driver) posted this advice:

My recommendation for New Years Eve... Pick whatever park you wish to spend New Years Eve at, get there in the morning, and STAY there.

Typically speaking, Magic Kingdom will be the first to fill up. Then Epcot. The Disney-MGM Studios might hit capacity, but it usually just comes close.

When a park nears capacity, there are various levels of closing.

First step is to close the parking lot (this usually occurs only at the Magic Kingdom/TTC). Guests are then re-routed to park at Epcot, and to take the Monorail to the TTC, then to the MK.

Second step is to close off ticket sales. You must have already purchased a ticket to enter the park. No new ticket sales for today.

Third step is to close the park to day guests. Only Disney Resort Guests will be allowed into the park. This is the most common stage.

The final step is to close off the park to EVERYONE. This means the park is FULL.

A few things to note...

It's not a one-for-one thing. So, if 5 people leave, you still may not enter.

Once you leave... you are not guaranteed re-entry. So, don't forget anything in the car -- you might not be able to get back in.

"Capacity" is not a set number. Rather, it is a decision based on many different factors, made by the parks highest management team.
