how are the parks on New Year's Day? should we just relax at the hotel? (we won't be hungover, and I would love to do MK or EPCOT but I don't want to feel claustrophobic. )

thanks!!

It's the single most crowded day of the year...if you don't like crowds, maybe plan to get to the park early, avoid anything within a few hours of fireworks, etc.

they have fireworks on New Year's Day?? I had no idea. guess I need to do some research!! thanks!

Well yes they do have fireworks...MK and Epcot have fireworks every night. It's still going to be kind of crowded though not as bad as the night before.

We went to EPCOT on New Years Day a couple of years ago & it was dead in World Showcase around lunch time. Granted it was overcast and only in the low 40s, but I said to DH, "where is everybody?" Maybe everyone was sleeping in after a late NYE and showed up later in the day, but we left after lunch. :confused3

that makes sense...of course they have the evening ones!! I got so carried away thinking about the NYE fireworks...I forgot for a moment!! maybe New Year's Day should be a pool day :)

this is kind of what I was hoping for ... everyone nursing a hangover & us being able to have elbow room in the parks!!! :)

Epcot might be OK. I'm confusing New Years Day with New Years Eve myself. MK is going to be crowded on any holiday, but it won't be like NYE.

I know, it's completely confusing!! lol I want to spend New Year's Day at the MK if possible & was hoping it would be less packed - EPCOT is my 2nd choice - I would be happy at either as long as I don't feel squished. ;)

In my experience, New Years Day is not crowded at all during the early morning hours, but by 1pm it will be very busy.

Last year NYE was crazy everywhere-but the morning of New years Day was not busy at all until around noon.

We found MK to have relatively light crowds the "morning" of New Years Day, until around noon when the MASSES of visitors started pouring in. We left there and hopped over to Epcot, where it was also extremely crowded. To the point that, when Illuminations ended and we were exiting the park, our family got separated in the mob. Not fun!

LOL, it's sounding like noon is the cutoff ! lol
I'm so sorry you got separated!! it will just be the 2 of us, so, we should be ok in that regard. we were not planning on closing the park, so maybe an off-site lunch should be the plan.

thank you all for the feedback!!
