New Year...Can we get rid of "this" already?

Can I say "NOT this"?

So anyone who uses those phrases is a "complete, total, utterly small-minded idiot"? Wow, way to win friends and influence people. :lmao:

I don't think any of the terms you mentioned (ressies, "brekky," "kiddos," "binky," "paci," "nekky.") are being used as "baby talk". Ressies is simply short for reservations, kiddos short for children, binky, paci, and nekky (I think) short for pacifiers. To me, if it gets the point across, that's all that's needed. If we want to stop "shortened" versions of words, let's get rid of WDW, DD, DS, DH, DW, Poly, CR, DHS, AK, AKL, GF, TL, BB, DTD, etc. (note: I'm not actually proposing eliminating the abbreviations).

This.

This Diser even took the time out of her life (?) to PM me when I did this on a thread. Seriously....

That's silly.

I have a suggestion for the new year...

In addition to The ban on religion and politics, a ban on self-appointed moderators would be lovely. ;)

I suppose poster could write "I completely agree with the post I have quoted, and would like to submit my own support for your opinion to ensure that other DISers know of this support," but the expression "this" is much more succinct and clear.

I completely agree with the post I have quoted, and would like to submit my own support for your opinion to ensure that other DISers know of this support. But "This" is much more succint and clear.

You want to do away with "I agree" and MTE as well? They mean the same thing. What's wrong with agreeing with someone?

I completely agree with the post I have quoted, and would like to submit my own support for your opinion to ensure that other DISers know of this support. But "This" is much more succint and clear.

I used "This" in a post for the first time here yesterday. It clearly must be old and tired if I'm using it. ;)

Actually, "This" is to the DIS boards as "Like" is to Facebook.

I completely agree with the post I have quoted, and would like to submit my own support for your opinion to ensure that other DISers know of this support. But "This" is much more succint and clear.

I like the response "this."

Sometimes a poster says exactly what you were thinking. I could rewrite what they posted, or I could just write "this" or "agreed".

I don't want to just skip posting because sometimes the OP really wants to know what people think and it's helpful to know that most people fall on one side or the other of an issue.

I completely agree with the post I have quoted, and would like to submit my own support for your opinion to ensure that other DISers know of this support. But "This" is much more succint and clear.

popcorn:: (I couldn't resist)

I'd lay odds that you would have received more agreement if you had titled the thread "irrational things that bug me on the Dis". Because I'm sure you're not the only one, but I'd venture to guess that putting the blame on yourself instead of everyone else would have worked more to your advantage. I see stuff all the time that bugs me, but that's my issue... not the other way around.

Jussayin'. (And now I'll patiently sit back and wait for someone to tell me they hate "jussayin'". ;))

Let's eliminate everyone's pet peeves. Oh, wait a minute... hmmmm.

I enjoy the DIS. I'd rather it exist than not.

This is "The Disboards" - There is always someone waiting in the wings with a whole essay about what they think on a thread topic. I don't think one or even two posters saying the dreaded "this" is going to ruin, or even semi hurt a thread.

And yes, it does add to the thread, because it is validating someones thoughts.

PS - Calling someone 12 in your post is doing nothing more than showing your own immaturity. JMHO

I completely agree with the post I have quoted, and would like to submit my own support for your opinion to ensure that other DISers know of this support. OR...

That. ^ :thumbsup2 ::yes:: Ditto. Agreed. :worship: :woohoo: :cheer2:Agreed. :teeth: To further explain and add an abundance of my thoughtful observations to this discussion, I'd like to add that "this" is like a "vote" for a particular opinion on a thread, in the absence of a poll.I wholeheartedly agree with your observation and opinion...or...DITTO.I wholeheartedly concur with what you have posted, and therefore, fall on the side of those who use "this" and understand the logic behind it.
So..."this".Sounds that way, no? :confused3

:scared1:

People need to get over themselves. If something bugs you, take responsibility for yourself and move on. Don't make your issues about everyone else.

I like the use of This, +1, Agree and even :thumbsup2 or ::yes::
I think people like to see a response to something they said even if it is just a one word quick post that lets them know that.

OP, if you don't like it, move on. No one here should feel they can dictate how anyone else chooses to speak.

How dare you write this brainless dribble under my wonderful post!!! If you want to do something with your life, why don't you make a real contribution to this thread!!!!

Word.

Oh wait, my bad, that was banned on New Years 2007.

I wonder if using "this" or "+1" is either generational or has something to do with texting or using facebook. I don't do either, and will admit that the first few times I saw "This" posted beneath a quote, I thought that the poster had simply inadvertently, mistakenly sent their post; sometimes I hit the return key or something and poof, it's posted, mid-sentence. It took me awhile to realize that "This" was actually the intended, total reply. To me, even ITA makes more sense than "this". And I freely admit I've never seen or heard of using "+1" until seeing it here several weeks ago.

Guess I'm just old, and techno-stupid (I freely admit to this one!)

The word I believe you are looking for is 'drivel'.

I always used "ressie" before they became ADRs. I won't mind if you call me 12 years old. I'd just laugh at you for getting in a huff over something so silly.:rotfl:
