Our reservation is for woods view, guaranteed non-smoking for medical/allergy reasons. I requested bunk beds when I made the reservation.
I faxed to: 407-824-3232 I believe.
In my fax I basically said this (paraphrased): "Looking forward to bring our kids for their first trip ever to WDW.....arriving saturday June 1st.....I'm trying to surprise my wife since we are also celebrating our anniversary this trip.....anything you could do would be wonderful, but if occupancy allows I would love to surprise her with a deluxe or concierge floor room! (I decided I'd go for the brass ring there!) I completely understand that it might not be possible.... I'm sure our initially booked requests would be most magical if occupancy doesn't allow you to help. Have a wonderful day, we are looking forward to visiting your hotel."
Asking for the upgrade is definitely a stretch, but I know we'll be perfectly happy with whatever nonsmoking bunkbed room we could secure otherwise, so might as well go for it. The same tactic worked for me in 1999 at the BWV where my wife and I were upgraded to a 1BR villa! I didn't ask at check in, I just faxed down a nice letter and the CM informed me at checkin that I had been upgraded to a 1BR waterview. My opinion is it doesn't hurt to ask nicely and understand that you probably have a very small chance of getting it, but it also might secure a courtyard room without even asking for it. Never know......
