New type photo card driving licence?

Hi Is it essential to have the new style licence for the US or is the old paper type still acceptable?

I have never got around to getting the new photo style driving license and there has been no problem.

It is not esential, the old style will do. I find the new style licence very useful in the US as it saves me having to carry my passport on those occasions when I need Photo ID.

The new style is very useful in the US and for here. Credit card size, with photo and all necessary details on. You can get your application checked at a post office for a few pounds more which will save you having to submit your passport to the DVLA.

I've never gotten round to getting the new type drivers licence and have never had any trouble whilst in the US.
