New Ticket Upgrade Policy?

I really think the AllEars report and the subsequent "clarifications" from UCT and Mousesavers were unfortunate byproducts of CM roulette when it comes to this issue.

And it was!!! Even DH was losing faith! But, the guest relations CM outside Epcot price bridged to NEW gate price right away!!

Congratulations! I have also had trouble upgrading to an AP twice at Guest Relations inside Epcot. However, I prevailed, and I eventually got it at the additional price I expected to pay. I'll cross my fingers for this December!

Good to hear I'm not the only one who has had trouble upgrading tickets in the past. I've posted before about having trouble doing an upgrade, and been more or less blasted. Under best case scenarios, it often takes a LONG time to upgrade a ticket.

In January, in the wake of new upgrades tot he FP+ system...I was able to upgrade AAA tickets to AP's, but it took a very long time. I didn't do it to save money, but rather because we had to shorten our Jan trip. We're going to try an come back later int eh year to make up for it.

I suppose we saved a few $, but time=money, and it was not worth the lost time, IMO. We spend nearly an hour - the 9am hour- in the GS at AK.

Seems to me like Disney could just put something in the system that automagically assigned the current gate price to any ticket after the first use. Then they wouldn't have to worry about the whole bridging thing and we could just move to the next step of upgrading. :confused3

Not really looking forward to going through this whole process in 62 days when I want to upgrade my 2-day MYW to AP. :headache:

That has been my (cautious) contention all along.

Without seeing any new internal "memo" from Disney to the ticket CM's (or something on the central Disney reference computer files in this regard,)
all we have is a few scattered (and out-of-sync) Q&A emails from this or that random CM (as far as I can tell.)

That is never good for getting the real-deal info.

This forum's good and true friend, Cheshire Figment
(WDW ticket CM) would often quote the exact wording on the Disney computer regarding ticket procedures.
With a lack of that kind of written word, I'm still reticent to say what is the actual on-the-ground
upgrade procedure (new or otherwise) for MYW tickets purchased from resellers.

Is there a new policy?
Where is this policy written?
Can ticket CM's look it up?

:surfweb:

I would like to add that none of the CMs who wouldn't price bridge said anything about a new policy. They specifically said it had always been that way and I quote, "You can't believe everything you read on the internet!" I did try to nicely show them Chesire's step by step instructions but they were not at all interested! Also, we paid $544 for DH ticket and $25 to upgrade so $569 total for an AP.

So it sounds like it is still necessary to use the tickets first, at least once, in order to get the higher (i.e. current) gate price when doing an upgrade?

I'll be testing things out next week. I purchased the "3 days + 2 days free" tickets from the Orbitz 20% deal. So for upgrade purposes, these would be considered 5 day tickets, correct?

I'll be upgrading to FL resident APs, so I should only have to pay the difference between the FL AP (currently $516.53) and the current gate price of the 5 day ticket.

We'll see how it goes. You can find me at the margarita stand in Epcot if things don't work out.

1- Yes. It cannot HURT to use the ticket first, and it very well may HELP.

2- Yes. That is, in fact, what they are.

3- That has been the traditional situation for years and years.

4- Or even if they DO work out, no? ;)

I'm still at loss to what is really going on.

I finally got someone on the line from Disney. They tried to deny price bridging and give me a general spiel about how to upgrade, etc, etc. I kept pushing them. Told them what the policy was and how to do it specifically (thanks to Cheshire Figment). I kept getting passed up (so they say) and into ticketing. I finally told them I get they aren't going to give me specifics, but I know it and they know it and they know I know it, so would they just confirm or deny if there had been any policy change since two weeks ago. I was left on hold for quite some time, and told when the CM returned that there had been no policy change.

But Len Testa on another board/in other areas is reporting UT latest findings. But I think they are using UT as the source, so take it for what it's worth. He did also give great examples on how it can cost you more money to upgrade than leave your ticket alone. Other people are saying it's the first kick to get rid of third-party resellers. Len is saying UT reports having very few tickets upgraded (not sure how they would know) and that it is doubtful it's Disney getting ready to dump resellers.

Who knows? Unfortunately, I think it will all be straightened out by my next trip in November. If it isn't to upgrade to *current* prices, I'm screwed. One set (2 of 6 needed) of tickets I have is too much of a cost to upgrade and I am going to postpone Disney again for a long, long, long time. It's just not the same Disney from 10-20 years ago. Some of you should have seen it then! That set is just from a hard to fill area--either too much or not enough--for our normal trips.

I really wish we knew if he was okay.
I'm wondering if he was asked to stop posting here. He often posted direct quotes from our ticketing "Handbook" I know he had permission to do so in the past but this information is considered confidential. Perhaps it was decided that he could no longer post without violating company policy and this permission was revoked. I sometimes work Guest Relations at Typhoon. I will try to ask around for him next time I am there. Sent from my iPhone using DISBoards

Thank you for checking up on Cheshire for us. If Disney wanted him to stop posting, wouldn't they ask him to take down his information? Just a thought. His knowledge has been vast and most importantly correct.

Since you work at guest relations do you have any insight on this 3rd party ticket upgrade situation?
